Privacy Policy
Privacy Policy for Google Trends for X (Twitter)
Effective Date: April 4, 2025
This Privacy Policy describes how we handles information in relation to the "Google Trends for X (Twitter)" Chrome extension (the "Extension").
We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Extension is designed to function with minimal data collection.
Information We Collect
The Extension collects and stores only one piece of information provided by you:
- Selected Google Trends Region: When you select a region (e.g., "US", "GB") using the Extension's popup interface, that two-letter region code is saved locally on your device using Chrome's synchronized storage (
chrome.storage.sync
). This allows your preference to potentially sync across browsers where you are logged into the same Google account.
Information We DO NOT Collect:
- We do not collect, store, track, or transmit any personally identifiable information (PII).
- We do not collect or track your browsing history, X.com account credentials, passwords, or your activity on X.com or any other website.
- We do not collect the specific trends displayed or the keywords you click on within the panel.
How We Use Information
- Selected Google Trends Region: The stored region code is used solely to construct the correct URL to fetch the public Google Trends RSS feed for your chosen geographical area.
- Google Trends Data: The Extension fetches publicly available Google Trends data (in XML format) directly from Google's servers based on your selected region. This data is processed (parsed) locally within the extension using an Offscreen Document (as required by Manifest V3) and displayed within the panel injected into the X.com interface. This fetched data is not stored by the Extension after being displayed.
- X.com Page Content: The Extension's content script runs on X.com pages to find a suitable location within the page's structure (DOM) to inject the display panel. It does not read, store, or transmit the content of your feed, messages, or other private information on X.com.
Data Storage and Security
- The only data stored by the Extension is your selected region code, which is kept locally on your computer using
chrome.storage.sync
, protected by standard Google Chrome security measures.
Information Sharing
We do not share any information (including the non-personal region setting) with any third parties.
The only external communication performed by the Extension is the request sent directly from your browser to Google's servers (trends.google.com
) to fetch the public RSS feed for your selected region. This request includes the region code you selected.
Third-Party Services
- Google Trends: The Extension retrieves data from Google Trends feeds. Your interaction with Google Trends is subject to Google's Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
- X.com (formerly Twitter): The Extension operates by injecting content onto X.com pages. Your use of X.com is subject to X's Privacy Policy: https://x.com/privacy
Your Choices
- You can change your selected region at any time using the Extension's popup interface (accessed via the toolbar icon).
- You can clear the stored region setting by clearing your browser's synchronized extension storage or by uninstalling the Extension.
- You can disable or uninstall the Extension at any time through Chrome's extension management page (
chrome://extensions
).
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by updating the effective date and potentially through other means if required. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
