Summary

Paste Guard does not collect, transmit or sell any data. Everything it does happens inside your browser.

What the extension processes

The text you paste is read from the clipboard event of the page you are on, checked against local patterns, and then either blocked or masked before it reaches the input field. It is never stored and never leaves the page.

The visible text of a page is read only when you press "Scan this page" in the popup, and only to count findings.

The number of blocked pastes, the number of findings and the 30 most active host names are stored in chrome.storage.local on your device. You can erase them with the "Clear" button in the popup or by resetting the extension.

Your switches, threshold and exception list are stored in chrome.storage.local as well, because the extension has no account and no server to keep them on.

What the extension does not do

It sends no analytics, telemetry or crash reports.

It contacts no remote server and makes no third-party request. The only network access is the extension reading its own bundled translation files from its own package.

It does not read your browsing history, the content of your tabs, cookies or passwords, beyond the paste event and the on-demand scan described above.

Permissions

storage — to keep settings and counters on your device.

Host access to all sites — the paste guard has to run in every frame where you might paste a secret. It adds one listener for the paste event; it does not modify pages, inject interface, or read anything until you paste or press scan.

Retention

Settings and counters stay in your browser profile until you clear them or uninstall the extension. Uninstalling removes everything it saved. There is no copy anywhere else, so there is nothing to delete on a server.

Children

The extension is a tool for developers and office work. It is not directed at children and collects no personal data from anyone.

Changes

If a future version processes data differently, this page will be updated and the change will be described in the release notes before the update ships.
