Privacy Policy — TaskRoket: Bookmark Doctor

Last updated: 26 October 2026 (this revision replaces the version of 23 October 2026 after a policy review).

This policy explains what data the Chrome extension TaskRoket: Bookmark Doctor ("the extension") collects, how that data is processed and used, where it is stored, for how long, and to whom it is transferred. It applies to the extension and to this page.

Developer and data controller: TaskRoket, publisher of the extension in the Chrome Web Store. Contact: the support address published on the extension's Chrome Web Store listing page.

1. Summary of data handling

  • What is read: bookmark addresses, titles, parent folders and the time each bookmark was added — read from the browser's own bookmark store through the bookmarks permission. Plus your settings (switches, limits) and the extension's own results (cleanup plan, counters, backup of the last cleanup, dead-link results).
  • Where it is processed: on your device, inside the browser profile. Nothing is computed on a server.
  • Where it is stored: chrome.storage.local in your browser profile (settings, plan, counters, backup, dead-link ids) and in memory during a scan. Bookmark data itself is never copied into storage.
  • Who receives it: nobody outside your device. The developer receives nothing; no third party receives anything; there is no account system, no analytics, no telemetry, no advertising, and no server of its own.
  • The one exception: if and only if you enable the dead-link check, the extension sends HTTP requests from your device directly to the websites you bookmarked, to learn whether they still answer. Details in sections 2.6 and 6.

2. What data the extension collects and processes

2.1 Bookmark data. With the bookmarks permission the extension reads the bookmarks that already exist in your browser: the address, the title, the folder the bookmark sits in, and the time it was added. This data is read from the browser's bookmark store and processed in memory to find duplicates, to suggest tags and to build the cleanup plan. It is not copied into storage and not uploaded anywhere.

2.2 Settings. Your choices — which checks are on, the plan size, the number of tags — are saved so the interface opens in the state you left it.

2.3 Plan and counters. The cleanup plan, the number of bookmarks found, the number of duplicates, dead links and untagged bookmarks, and the time of the last run are saved so the popup can show them instantly.

2.4 Backup of the last cleanup. Before anything is removed, the extension saves the title, address, parent folder and position of each removed bookmark, so the Undo button can put it back. This backup is deleted when you run the next cleanup, when you press Undo, or when you remove the extension.

2.5 Dead-link results. If and only if you turn on the dead-link check and grant access to websites, the extension stores the identifiers of the bookmarks that answered with HTTP 404 or 410, plus the time of the check.

2.6 Technical data in requests. When the dead-link check runs, the request goes from your device to the bookmarked website, so that website sees what it would see if you opened the bookmark yourself: your IP address, the address being checked, and the browser's standard request headers. The extension adds no cookies, sends no identifiers, and does not read the response body. This technical data is seen by that website only, is not stored by the extension, and is not sent to the developer.

3. How the data is collected

Only as a result of your own actions: opening the popup or the options page, pressing the keyboard shortcut, or running a check. The extension has no content script, does not run on websites, does not read the pages you visit and does not collect data in the background. There is no automatic collection of browsing history, location, identity, keystrokes, clipboard or form data, and no collection while the browser is idle.

4. How the data is used

  • Bookmark data — to group copies of the same page, to propose tags, to build the plan and to show which bookmarks would be removed.
  • Settings — to apply your choices every time the extension starts.
  • Plan and counters — to display the current state and the result of the last run.
  • Backup — only to restore bookmarks when you press Undo.
  • Dead-link results — to mark bookmarks whose site no longer answers and, if you enabled it, to include them in the plan.
  • Technical data in requests — only to obtain the HTTP status of the bookmarked address.

The data is never used for profiling, advertising, scoring, credit-rating, lending decisions, machine training or any purpose other than the single purpose of the extension: cleaning up a bookmark collection.

5. Storage and retention

All stored data lives in chrome.storage.local, inside your own browser profile. There is no copy on a server, because there is no server.

  • Settings and counters stay until you change them or remove the extension.
  • The plan is replaced on every scan.
  • The backup of the last cleanup is overwritten by the next cleanup that removes something.
  • Dead-link results are replaced on the next check and are considered stale after six hours.
  • Removing the extension deletes all of the above. Your bookmarks stay as they are, apart from the ones you deliberately removed.

6. Transfer and sharing — who receives data

  • The developer (TaskRoket) receives nothing. There is no endpoint to receive it.
  • No third parties receive data. No analytics providers, advertising networks, data brokers, cloud services, crash reporters or affiliated companies. Data is never sold, rented, traded or transferred to anyone for any purpose, including for advertising or creditworthiness.
  • The bookmarked website receives one request, and only when you enable the dead-link check. That is the single case of data leaving your device, and it goes to the site you bookmarked, not to us. The categories of recipients are therefore: the websites you yourself bookmarked, and nobody else.
  • Google receives nothing from the extension. Installing and updating an extension is handled by Chrome itself under Google's own terms; the extension does not send anything to Google.
  • Legal requests: the developer holds no user data on any server and therefore has nothing to disclose.

7. Your control over the data

  • Turn any check off in the popup or options page; the extension stops reading and processing the corresponding data.
  • Revoke website access at any time in the extension settings or in chrome://extensions; the dead-link check stops working immediately.
  • Undo the last cleanup to restore removed bookmarks.
  • Remove the extension to delete its stored settings, plan and backup.
  • No request to the developer is needed to exercise any of these rights, because the data never leaves your profile.

8. Security

The extension requests only the permissions it needs (bookmarks, storage, plus optional access to websites for the dead-link check), contains all of its code inside the package, loads no remote code, uses no eval, and does not inject scripts into pages. Stored data is protected by the browser profile and by the operating system account you use.

9. Children

The extension is a general-purpose utility, not directed to children, and does not knowingly collect data from anyone.

10. Changes to this policy

If the extension starts handling data differently, this page is updated at the same address with a new date before the change ships. The current version is always the one on this page.
