Privacy Policy — Shorts AutoScroll

Last updated: 8 May 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how the "Shorts AutoScroll" Chrome extension ("the Extension") handles user data.

SHORT VERSION

The Extension collects nothing about you. It never contacts any server. It only stores two things locally in your browser: your on/off preference, and your usage counters.

WHAT IS STORED

The Extension uses Chrome's built-in storage APIs:

- chrome.storage.sync — stores a single setting: whether auto-scroll is enabled or disabled. This setting is synchronized across your Chrome browsers via your Google account, the same way bookmarks and browser settings are. The developer never sees this data.

- chrome.storage.local — stores usage statistics on your device only: the total number of auto-scrolls performed, the total time saved from skipping re-loops, and a daily breakdown. This data never leaves your device.

WHAT IS NOT COLLECTED

The Extension does not collect, transmit, sell, or share:

- Personal identifying information

- Names, emails, addresses, phone numbers

- Account credentials

- Browsing history outside of YouTube Shorts pages

- The content, titles, or URLs of videos you watch

- Cookies or browser fingerprints

- Any data of any kind to any external server

PERMISSIONS EXPLAINED

- Host permission for *.youtube.com — required to detect video playback on YouTube Shorts pages and inject the auto-scroll behavior. The Extension reads or modifies nothing outside of /shorts/ URLs.

- Storage permission — required for the two local storage uses described above.

THIRD-PARTY SERVICES

The popup contains a link to buymeacoffee.com — a voluntary tip jar. Clicking this link opens Buy Me a Coffee in a new tab. Buy Me a Coffee has its own privacy policy at https://www.buymeacoffee.com/privacy-policy. The Extension does not send any data to Buy Me a Coffee unless you click the link and interact with their site.

DATA RETENTION

All data lives in your local browser profile. Uninstalling the Extension or clearing your browser data removes everything permanently. The developer cannot retrieve, restore, or modify your data — there is no backend that holds it.

CHILDREN'S PRIVACY

The Extension is suitable for general audiences. It does not knowingly collect data from children, because it does not collect data from anyone.

CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be published at the same URL with a new "Last updated" date.
