Privacy Policy — Instagram DM Translator

Instagram DM Translator (Chrome extension, developer: Adrian Dacka)

This extension’s only purpose is to translate Instagram Direct Messages between Polish and English.

What data is processed

• Instagram DM text that you view or send, solely so it can be translated (and optionally grammar-checked).
• An anonymous analytics client ID generated on your device (stored as analyticsClientId). It is not your Instagram username, email, or Google account.
• Optional DeepL API key if you paste one in Settings.
• Local settings and a translation cache (provider choice, toggles, word/character stats). These stay on your computer.

The extension does not ask for your Instagram password and does not read DMs for any purpose other than translation and the anonymous usage metrics described below.

Where data is sent

Message text is sent only to translation (and optional grammar) APIs:

• Google Translate — translate.googleapis.com and clients5.google.com (default free engine).
• MyMemory — api.mymemory.translated.net (fallback).
• DeepL — api-free.deepl.com or api.deepl.com, only if you paste your own DeepL API key.
• LanguageTool — api.languagetool.org, if grammar fix is enabled (on by default).

Anonymous usage analytics are sent to Google Analytics 4 measurement ID G-TH3PC746G9 at www.google-analytics.com. Events include things like install/update, toggle changes, provider choice, and translation counts (word/character length, language pair, provider, duration). Message contents are not sent to GA4.

What we do not do

• We do not sell Instagram DMs or any personal data.
• We do not use message text for advertising.
• We do not operate our own backend that stores your chats.

Local storage

Settings, the DeepL API key (if provided), the anonymous analytics client ID, stats, and cached translations are stored locally with chrome.storage on your device. They are not uploaded to the developer.

Chrome Web Store Limited Use

The use of information received from Google APIs and of Instagram message text processed by this extension adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. User data is used only to provide or improve the disclosed single purpose (Polish ⇌ English Instagram DM translation) and related operational metrics. It is not sold or used for advertising.
