Overview

BreatheFree (“the app”, package name com.quantumlogic.breathefree) is a quit-smoking app developed by Quantum Logic (“we”, “us”). This policy explains exactly what the app stores, what leaves your phone, what never does, and how to get rid of all of it.

The short version: everything you record — your quit date, cravings, slips, journal and streak — is stored on your phone. There is no account unless you choose to create one. If you do sign in with Google, the app keeps a private copy of that same data so a new phone can restore your quit; only you can read it, and deleting your account deletes the copy. There are no adverts in BreatheFree and the app never asks for an advertising identifier.

The app is free, and nothing in it is behind a sign-in. Refusing an account costs you the backup and nothing else.

What is stored on your phone

All of this lives in the app's private storage on your device:

Your first name, if you enter one — it can be left blank
Your quit plan: quit date, earlier attempts, whether you stopped abruptly or are cutting down
Your habit before quitting: cigarettes (or bidis, gutkha, khaini, hookah) per day, pack size, pack price, currency, years of use
Your reasons for quitting, including any you write yourself
Your answers to the Fagerström dependence questions and the resulting score
Gender, if selected — used only to estimate life regained
Craving logs: time, intensity, what triggered it, which coping tool you used, whether you resisted, and any note you add
Daily check-ins: mood, cigarettes smoked, number of cravings, and your note
Journal entries and the lessons you write after a slip
Slip records, rewards you set, badges reached, best streak and lifetime totals
App settings: language, light or dark theme, reminder times, notification and analytics choices

Uninstalling the app deletes this copy. Settings › Erase everything deletes it without uninstalling.

Signing in with Google is optional and is offered twice: once on the opening screen, and again in Settings › Account. It exists for one reason — so that a new phone, or a reinstall, does not cost you your streak and your history.

While you are signed in, the app keeps one document in Google Cloud Firestore, holding a copy of everything listed in the section above, together with the app version and platform that wrote it and the time it was written. It is stored under the anonymous user id that Google issues for your account, and it is written when your data changes — not continuously.

From Google's sign-in we receive and store your account's user id, and the name, email address and profile picture that Google supplies. We do not receive your Google password.

Who can read the backup: you, signed in to that same Google account. The database rules permit a signed-in user to read, write and delete only their own document, and deny every other path. We do not read it, and it is not shared, sold, transferred or used for advertising.

Sign out and the backup stops being updated; the copy stays until you delete it, so that signing back in restores your data. Delete your account (see below) and it is removed.

What the app never collects

The app does not collect your contacts, photos, files, location, calendar, microphone or camera. It has no advertising identifier, no adverts and no third-party trackers.

The words you write — journal entries, craving notes, slip lessons, custom reasons — are never sent to analytics. They exist on your phone, and in your own backup if you signed in. Nowhere else.

Usage analytics

The app uses Google Analytics for Firebase to count which screens and features are used, so the app can be improved. It is on by default and there is a real switch: Settings › Data › Share anonymous usage data. Turning it off stops collection inside the Google SDK, not just in our own code.

This is the complete list of what the app records:

Which of the five tabs you open (a screen name, nothing about the content)
That a quit plan was started, with cigarettes per day as a band such as “11–20” — never the exact number
That a craving was logged, and whether it was resisted
That the craving SOS was opened, and that a coping tool was finished, with the tool's name
That a milestone badge was reached, with the badge's name
That a slip was logged, a check-in was saved, or a journal entry was added — the count only, never the text
That you signed in or out

The only user property attached to these events is the anonymous user id from your Google account, and only while you are signed in. Analytics never carries your name, your notes, your quit date or your money figures.

Reminders

Daily nudges, milestone celebrations and the optional evening check-in are scheduled by your phone itself. There is no push service and no message from us: nothing about a reminder leaves the device. You can switch each of them off in Settings, and the app works without notification permission.

Deleting your data

There are three separate deletions, and you can use any of them at any time:

Settings › Data › Erase everything — wipes the data on this phone
Settings › Account › Delete account — deletes the backup copy, deletes your BreatheFree account and withdraws the app's access to your Google account. This is available inside the app and needs no request to us
Uninstalling the app — removes the phone's copy; a backup, if you made one, stays until deleted as above

If you would rather ask us, or you no longer have the app installed, email quantumlogicloom@gmail.com from the address you signed in with and write “delete my BreatheFree data”. We will delete the account and its backup and confirm by reply, normally within seven days and at most within thirty.

How long data is kept

Data on your phone stays until you erase it or uninstall the app. A backup stays for as long as the account exists, because its whole purpose is to still be there when you get a new phone; it is deleted when you delete the account. Analytics events are retained by Google Analytics for Firebase under its own retention period, which is set to the shortest option Google offers.

Security

Traffic between the app and Google's services uses HTTPS. The backup is encrypted at rest by Google Cloud, and access to it is restricted by database rules to the signed-in owner. On your phone, the data sits in the app's private storage, which other apps cannot read on a normal, non-rooted device.

No system is perfect, and a quit journal is personal. That is why an account is optional, why nothing you write is ever sent to analytics, and why deletion is one tap inside the app.

Children

BreatheFree is intended for adults who use tobacco, and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has signed in, email us and we will delete the account and its backup.

Services we rely on

The app uses Google Play services and these Firebase services from Google: Authentication (only if you sign in), Cloud Firestore (only if you sign in), and Analytics for Firebase (until you switch it off). Google processes that data as our service provider, under Google's own privacy policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy.

Your data is not sold, and it is not shared with advertisers, data brokers or anyone else. There is no other server: we do not run one.

Your rights

You can see everything the app holds about you — it is on your screen — and export it as a file from Settings › Data › Export my data. You can correct your plan and habit details from Settings, withdraw consent for analytics with the switch, and delete everything as described above.

Depending on where you live, laws such as India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act and the EU GDPR give you rights of access, correction, erasure and portability, and the right to complain to a data protection authority. The steps above are how those rights are exercised in this app; if you need anything else, write to us.

BreatheFree provides general, evidence-based information about stopping tobacco use. It is not a doctor, it does not diagnose, and it does not replace medical care. If you are pregnant, taking medication or living with a health condition, speak to a clinician about nicotine replacement or prescription options.

Changes to this policy

If the app starts handling data differently, this page is updated before the change ships, and the date at the top changes with it. The address of this page stays the same, so a bookmark or the link in Play Console keeps working.
