Privacy Policy - Chipster

Chipster is a CHIP-8 emulator for Android. It collects nothing, sends nothing, and has no network code in it at all. There are no servers, no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no third-party SDKs. Everything the app creates stays on your device.

This is not a promise about intent - it is a property of the app. Chipster does not request the INTERNET permission, so it is not technically capable of transmitting your data anywhere.

Permissions

Chipster requests exactly one permission:

• Vibration (android.permission.VIBRATE) - used only to make the phone vibrate: a short tick when you press a key on the on-screen keypad, and, if you turn the option on, as a replacement for the emulator's buzzer sound. It reads nothing and collects nothing.

Chipster does not request access to storage, the camera, the microphone, location, contacts, or any other permission.

You may also see a permission named com.crashapps.chipster.DYNAMIC_RECEIVER_NOT_EXPORTED_PERMISSION in the app's manifest. It is added automatically by Android's own AndroidX libraries and exists purely to stop other apps from talking to Chipster's internal components. It grants no access to anything and involves no data.

What is stored on your device

The following is saved locally, in Chipster's own private storage, and is never transmitted:

• Your game library - the title, author and description of each program, its compatibility settings, speed, keypad mapping, and a small black-and-white thumbnail of the last frame you saw.
• Play statistics - how many times you have started each program and how long it has run. Used only for the app's own statistics screen.
• Save states - complete snapshots of the emulated machine, so you can resume a game where you left it.
• Settings - your chosen theme, colours, screen effects, sound options and control layout.

None of this identifies you. It never leaves your device.

Files you open

If you load your own .ch8 file, Chipster uses Android's system file picker. Android gives Chipster access to that single file only, because you chose it - no storage permission is requested or granted. Chipster copies the file into its own private storage so that it stays available in your library, and reads nothing else from your device.

Screenshots

If you tap the screenshot button, Chipster saves a picture of the emulator's screen to your device's gallery. This happens only when you ask for it, and the image stays on your device.

Data shared with third parties

None. Chipster contains no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising, and no third-party SDKs of any kind. No data is sold, shared or disclosed to anyone, because no data is collected in the first place.

Children

Chipster is not directed at children and is not designed for them. It also collects no personal information from anyone, of any age. We do not knowingly collect data from children because we do not collect data at all.

Deleting your data

Uninstalling Chipster removes everything it has stored: the library, your save states and all settings. There is nothing held anywhere else, so there is nothing else to delete and no request to make. Screenshots you chose to save to your gallery remain yours and are not removed by uninstalling.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this address and the 'last updated' date above will change. Since Chipster collects no data, any change is likely to be a clarification rather than a change in practice.
