Princess X – My Fiancee is a Monster Girl is the debut monster girl visual novel by Japanese developer Poison@Berry. The original title being “Princess X ~Boku no Iinazuke wa Monsterkko!?~”.
Princess X’s story starts when Shinichi’s father tells him that he has arranged a fiancee for him. However, he can’t help to be surprised when he learns that all of the selected girls aren’t human at all. Wait, “all”? Yes, you read it right, there isn’t just one fiancee, but four! There’s the lamia princess Nadiusu the 12th, centaur knight Proxima, mechanical princess R-Komadori, and lastly there’s the Gozen Tegusu, an arachne princess.
Alas, that’s not all yet. Shinichi’s father also tells him that if he doesn’t choose a marriage partner, he will destroy the world. Thus, with the fate of the world on his shoulders, the curtain rises for a story of a boy seeking a bride amongst his non-human fiancees.
JAST USA has published an English translation of Princess X called “Princess X – My Fiancee is a Monster Girl?!”. It’s now available in both a physical and a download edition here .

PRINCESS X - My Fiancee is a Monster Girl?!

JAST USA is happy to announce Princess X: My Fiancee is a Monster Girl?! for preorder. The most excellent "Monster Girl" game ever, this is the game that created the current Monster Musume genre!
Shinichi Mikuriya's average life takes a turn for the weird when his dad drops a megaton bomb - he's engaged! To multiple women! And they aren't even human!
Each new fiancee is stranger than the last, and they're all madly in love with him. Worst of all, whoever he doesn't marry might destroy the world! Which monster girl will you choose in the end?
Check out the girls you get to interact with in this game:
Princess of the Gorgoneion Empire, a military superpower on the world of Demiurgos. Naja is a powerful sorceress, feared throughout the land. She has come to our world to make Shinichi her husband.
A Holy Knight of Messier, Gorgoneion's chief rival on the world of Demiurgos. She came to our world on a mission to kill Naja, and proposes to Shinichi in order to keep Naja from marrying him.
An Arbeit servitor robot from the Machine Empire Amorphous, which is based in Antarctica. She is expressive, but due to her inability to speak human language, has difficulty making herself understood. Only Komadori can communicate with her freely.
A Frei ruler machine from the Machine Empire. Though unfailingly polite in manner, she has an acerbic wit. She enjoys making things difficult for Shinichi's other fiancees.
A princess from the Night Country, the land of yokai. Her speech and manner are old-fashioned and demure. She's also something of a ditz. Her father ordered her to marry Shinichi in order to fulfill a debt.

It’s been a while since I reviewed an Eroge and with JAST USA bringing Mamono Musume – Life with a Lamia this Summer, I thought I would warm up for it by checking out one of their other offerings with Monster Girls. I decided to play Princess X: My Fiancee is a Monster Girl?! I didn’t really know what to expect going into this one. All I knew was this visual novel featured a Centaur, Gorgon, Android Girl and a Spider Girl. It checked a lot of my boxes for Monster Girl goodness, so I had high hopes for this. Let’s see if it met them, or if I was just eaten by the Spider Girl.
The story follows a young man named Shinichi Mikuriya. He leads a pretty ordinary life. His parents are away working so he is in charge of his two younger sisters. They are quite the handful and when the game opens, they are saying some pretty lewd things to their older brother. They soon meet up with his childhood friend Mayuko Nishi. She is a rough girl that loves to scold him to keep in line. She is about as tsundere as they come, and you can tell she has feelings for him right off the bat. Before class they run into Tsunayoshi Takamura, another one of Shinichi’s friends who lives at a shrine. The boy has consumed so much porn that things that are not erotic are now erotic to him. This is very humorous and plays a role in the story much later as well.
On the way home Shinichi gets a strange call from his dad. The call basically had him asking Shinichi if he’s ever read a manga where the unpopular main character suddenly obtains a fiancée. Of course he doesn’t understand what he’s talking about until it is revealed that his dad has made a deal with a foreign country to marry him off to their princess, the only issue being that she’s a monster. He soon discovers his princess is really a Gorgon, snake tail and all. The plot soon gets even thicker as his dad has been working with other nations. Soon a cute Android girl and Centaur show up to claim him as a prize as well. Throw in one elegant Spider Girl into the mix and you have the start to this wild ride of a visual novel. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention that most of these girls will destroy the human race if he doesn’t marry them. No pressure, right?
This was as crazy as I thought it was going to be when I jumped into this, but I didn’t expect it to have such unpredictable humor. I loved the amount of detail that went into each girl’s backstory. You really come away with a sense of not only knowing about them, but the worlds they come from as well. Shinichi is really harsh on the girls at first, mostly because their looks scare him, and I think it’s great that for the most part, this story is about overcoming that and seeing them for who they are. There are 11 story routes in the game as you learn about each of the four princesses. I don’t want to go into the routes too much in this review to avoid spoilers, but I will say there are a wide range of endings including some that would be considered a bad ending. Each one I feel is well written and I had a blast with each and every one of them.
The only complaint I have about Princess X: My Fiancee is a Monster Girl?! is how it determines which route you are on. Your sisters throughout the game make statements and you have to choose which one you agree with. These don’t really make it very clear which way you will take the story. On top of this, there are also choices you make like in any other visual novel that will have a huge impact on this as well. I had to use a walkthrough to figure out how to see some of these.
The personalities and backgrounds of our four heroines in Princess X: My Fiancee is a Monster Girl?! are as unique as they look. The Gorgon’s name is Naja. She is the heir to the empire that controls the world she comes from. Their empire is at war with the Holy United Kingdom of Messier. This is the kingdom from which the Centaur, Proxmina, hails from. Naja is clueless about this world as she tries to feed him a raw chicken, feathers and all. She is also quite hot headed and rushes into a fight without thinking. This resulted in the house being destroyed once. This aside, she may act tough and ruthless on the outside at times, but she’s really a sweet girl that just wants to do the best for her empire and Shinichi, which she falls for rather quickly. She’s quite the lewd girl and gives the boy plenty of service in several fantastic H-scenes.
As I mentioned before, Proxmina is from the Holy United Kingdom of Messier. She is their Holy Princess Knight and very powerful. Taking great pride in her faith and kingdom, she is a very stern and disciplined knight. I found her to be quite the masochist when it comes to matters of sex. She has some really rough times in this one and a few of the H-scenes with her involve some BDSM. She seemed to like most of it. I don’t usually go for girls like her, but I found myself growing quite fond of her during my playthrough. I never thought I’d go for a Centaur Girl, but when you find the best one, what can you do.
After Proxie and Naja destroy the house with their fighting, Shinichi encounters yet another adorable princess. This time it is Komadori from the machine empire. She is accompanied by her loyal and large maid 43. She has a very polite demeanor, but this girl is as crass and scheming as they come. She is always working to pit all of Shinichi’s love interests against each other. She wastes no time in getting to know Shinichi as she jumps in a bath for some skinship right off the bat. I really loved this girl a lot. She’ll steal your heart with her cuteness and none will have a chance against her intelligence.
The last princess comes from the Night Country, and you may have guessed it, it’s Spider Girl time! Her name is Lady Tegusu. You are introduced to her through Tsunayoshi, by some crazy circumstances. She is a very elegant girl that speaks very properly. She is quite beautiful as well, if you can get past the whole spider part. Shinichi has a really hard time dealing with this, but he doesn’t want to tell her no. Unlike the other girls, if he refuses her she must take her own life by her father’s command. This puts our protagonist between a rock and hard place as he doesn’t want to see her hurt, but she terrifies him!
These four Monster Girls were all amazing in their own ways. The writing and Japanese voice acting gave these girls a lot of personality. The music added a lot to scenes as well. Some tunes were quirky and others a bit more serious for those emotional moments. Everyone will of course have their best girl as they play this, and I can honestly say there is no bad choice here. You will meet some other Monster Girls in this one as well, but those get into spoiler territory, so you’ll just have to read this one to see what other craziness Shinichi finds himself in.
The artwork in Princess X: My Fiancee is a Monster Girl?! is outstanding. I loved the designs of all the girls. They are greatly detailed in both the sprites and CG scenes. The sprites of the girls in school uniforms looks super cute! All of the CG H-scenes, which there are quite a few, are all very nicely done with not a mosaic in sight. Some of these are bit crazy, with one having some light scat and some other super crazy stuff going on. I didn’t find any of this off putting myself, but this may not be some folks cup of tea.
Princess X: My Fiancee is a Monster Girl?! is a fantastic visual novel for Monster Girl lovers. It has some amazing girls, interesting storylines and a boatload of amazing artwork. The voice acting is top notch and for $34.99 you get about 25 hours of gameplay. The only real drawback to this one is how they set up the story routes, but you can remedy this with a good walkthrough. I’m unbelievably hyped for the upcoming Fan Disc now and I have to say, if you’re looking for a solid visual novel with some sexy monster girl action, you can’t really go wrong here.

Steve started with oprainfall not long after the campaign moved from the IGN forums to Facebook. Ever since, he has been fighting to give all non-mainstream RPGs a fair voice. As the site admin, he will continue to do this and even show there is value in what some would deem "pure ecchi." He loves niche games and anime more than anything... well, except maybe Neptune.
