Enjoyed the music and this captures the mus8cal nicely.
Unlike almost all of the new original cast CD’s for which I write reviews for Amazon, I have actually seen this musical on stage. I saw it during its out-of-town tryout in Chicago, Summer 2018, and thoroughly enjoyed the show and the score that Bryan Adams wrote for the musical. It had a great opening number, a Hollywood version of the type of ensemble introduction that began the score for “La La Land”. The music is not throwback 1980’s for Adams but a modern sound much like the sounds for successful mainstream music in musicals for the past few years. I looked forward to the original cast CD. Absent the updated story and heard as music from the perspective of a musical version of a 20-year old music, the music actual struck me as oddly incongruent with my expectation for the romantic musical with its fairy tale ending. It needed more romance in the songs for the two major characters, and it particularly needed a song at the end that supports the capitulation of Edward to being the man who seeks and wins the hand of Vivien. However, this remains a very nice score for a musical, for which I can happily give an unqualified recommendation for a copy for your collection, too.
I just saw the musical live. As it was the first show I've seen in two years because of the pandemic, I had built up great expectations. And they were met. Loved it. So this CD is a vehicle to bring back those memories of a live performance that I loved.
I love the stars of the show and I love the movie, so it stands to reason that this was going to be a slam dunk. It just misses 5 stars from me because while the music is great in the show and in the life of the show, it feels slightly dated in its sound. There are some great songs and Samantha Barks and Andy Karl are fantastic but I don't find that I want to sing along with any of the songs except one.

I saw the show on Broadway on 9-13-18 ....and then had to wait a week to get my hands on this. It was worth the wait. I loved the show. I loved the music. The reviews have been mixed on both the show and the music. But, I don't care. I loved it. I smiled through the entire show. And I smiled listening to this.

A great soundtrack for a super fun musical. You can relive every moment you saw on the stage.
I was lucky enough to see this show on a recent trip to New York. As a fan of the film and a long term Bryan Adams fan, I couldn't wait to see the show and hear the songs and I wasn't disappointed. Samantha Barks has an amazing voice and is a brilliant Vivian. I love it.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this album. I was hooked from the first minute. I couldn't stop listening to it. I was so gripped by it. I really need to see the performance now
