“Pretty Girl” is Maggie Lindemann’s fourth original song. It’s a catchy pop tune about what it’s like to be a young woman in this period of time.
On a March 17, 2017, interview with Billboard , Maggie spoke about how people overlooking her as a singer inspired her to write the song:
When people call me a social-media star, I feel looked past for being a singer. [“Pretty Girl”] is about being more than just what people see online and girls being more than our physical appearances. I think people need to look past just that and find what’s deeper.
This is Lindemann’s first major-label release. She’s signed to the Atlantic Records -owned imprint 300 Entertainment , home of Migos , Fetty Wap , and Young Thug , among others.
It’s about getting judged based on your looks and what’s said on social media. People will think they know you just from that. There’s more to someone than physical appearance. The song basically says, ‘Screw that!’ Being a young woman, I feel like we’re very judged based on our looks alone. This is a song for everyone who feels that way.

I’m on social media and a lot of people just see me as someone that doesn’t have a personality—just a “pretty face” on social media and that’s it. In life too, a lot of people view girls as just a “pretty face,” and they don’t really look past that. I wanted to put a song out there that there’s so much more to us than just that. We have a lot to offer—we have goals. We’re still people, and we still make mistakes. A lot of people always say, “oh she’s pretty, but she’s dumb” or “oh, she’s pretty, but what else does she do?” People don’t really look past your physical appearance. Obviously it’s a compliment to say I’m pretty, but obviously I have more qualities than that. Also, people assuming they knew who I was based on what I tweet or what I post.
