Brook was very impressive in this historical film that is way to historical for its time. Sarandon and Carradine were both outstanding as well as the entire cast. The story goes slow but lets the viewer understand the characters and the times.
Worth a watch to the open minded.

What she does remember was trying not to look as if "I'd just sucked on a lemon" before her on-screen kiss with 29-year-old Keith Carradine ("Keith was so kind," she writes) and being soundly slapped - on-screen and for real - by Susan Sarandon (who apparently wasn't).
A sentimental education beautifully played by both Carradine and Brooke Shields.
The story highlights are confined within a narrow range of ho-hum dramatization.
