Georgia Slater is a writer/reporter on the Parents team at PEOPLE. She began at the brand in 2018 as an editorial intern and later returned as an intern on the Food team. Upon graduating from the University of Maryland in 2019, Georgia worked as an entertainment intern at USA Today before coming back to PEOPLE as a digital news writer. In April 2021, she began her role as a Parents writer/reporter.
On a new episode of PEOPLE's new podcast Me Becoming Mom , the author and television host, 51, says it was never her intention to share the news at that time until she heard that a tabloid found out she was expecting.
"I got a call from one of my team members who said to me that a tabloid had reached out and said that I was pregnant," she recalls. "I said to my team that this was my journey and I didn't want to cede that to others"
"I remember hearing that little 'Baby Shark' song somewhere, I don't know where. And I ran upstairs and grabbed this dress and my husband grabbed the phone and I said, 'We're gonna do a visual baby reveal!' He's like, 'What are you doing? Are you nuts!' " she tells host Zoë Ruderman, Head of Digital at PEOPLE.
Hall, who shares son Moses , now 2, with husband Steven Greener, teased her pregnancy in March 2019 on Instagram, sharing a video of herself dancing to "Baby Shark" and holding a related book in front of her belly.
Subscribe to our new 12-episode weekly podcast, Me Becoming Mom , to hear celebrity moms open up exclusively to PEOPLE about their extraordinary roads to motherhood.
She then took the book away and showed off her belly, singing and dancing along to the popular kids' tune before telling the camera, "Surprise! Can you believe it? I'm about to be a mommy shark really soon!"
After Moses' birth, Hall told PEOPLE they'd decided to keep her pregnancy a secret because there was a time when she wasn't sure his arrival was even possible. "I was high-risk, not just because of my age, but there were other medical factors too," she said in May 2019.
The mom said Moses came after years of struggling with infertility and that she initially tried fertility treatments in her 30s. She said of her family, "I don't think you can ever overuse the word grateful."
The 12-episode weekly Me Becoming Mom podcast explores the various roads to motherhood through different interviews with both celebrity guests and experts in the field. Topics on the show include IVF, adoption, surrogacy, single parenthood, same-sex couples, home births, pregnancy loss, unexpected and surprising birth stories, among other subjects.
Guests on the show include Alyssa Milano, Hoda Kotb , Shawn Johnson East and more.

With paparazzi around every corner in Hollywood and New York, keeping something like a pregnancy a secret when you’re a celebrity is nearly impossible. Yet these stars managed to evade being photographed with a baby bump, only to let fans know after they’d already given birth that they were a new parent.
The 2020 COVID-19 lockdown made for the perfect cover for stars to keep their pregnancies hidden. Justin Timberlake and wife Jessica Biel added a second child to their family in July 2020, with the birth of their son , Phineas. While there were widespread rumors that the pair were parents again, the couple did not respond to reports, nor were there any photos of Jessica while pregnant.
Justin didn’t confirm the news until a January 18, 2021, appearance on Ellen DeGeneres ‘ daytime talk show. “I think we were FaceTiming and you said, ‘Hey, do you want to know a secret?’ and then Jessica walked in, and you put your hand on her stomach and you were like, ‘We’re having another baby,'” Ellen told Justin during their Zoom conversation. The “Sexyback” hitmaker responded, “You’re one of the first people outside of our immediate family that we told.”
Actress Mindy Kaling is another celebrity who had a secret quarantine baby, only to reveal the news on TV later. During an October 8, 2020, appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert , she revealed, “I’m telling it for the first time now, it feels so strange. But I gave birth to a baby boy on September 3.” Stephen responded, “No one even knew you were pregnant!” to which Mindy agreed, “I know! I know! This is news to a lot of people. It’s true,” sharing that she named her son Spencer.
Other celebrities who managed to keep their pregnancies under wraps thanks to home lockdown and zoom video connections include actresses Emmy Rossum , Billie Lourd , Amanda Seyfried and Rooney Mara , as well as rapper Iggy Azalea .
There had been so many rumors starting in the summer of 2017 that Kylie Jenner was pregnant by her new boyfriend Travis Scott . She kept her famous figure off of social media for months, and when she did appear in photos, it was from the shoulders up. After daughter Stormi Webster’s arrival on February 1, 2018, Kylie took to Instagram three days later to announce her baby’s birth, along with an 11-minute video showing all the highlights of her secret pregnancy that fans missed out on.
“I’m sorry for keeping you in the dark through all the assumptions. I understand you’re used to me bringing you along on all my journeys. My pregnancy was one I chose not to do in front of the world,” she wrote.
“I knew for myself I needed to prepare for this role of a lifetime in the most positive, stress free, and healthy way I knew how. There was no gotcha moment, no big paid reveal I had planned. I knew my baby would feel every stress and every emotion, so I chose to do it this way for my little life and our happiness.” Considering what a precious and thoughtful child Stormi has turned out to be, Kylie made the right call!

The Oscar-winning actress revealed the struggle she went through with husband Michael Fassbender to start a family. “I tried to get pregnant for a while. So, I had tough times during lockdown [amid the coronavirus pandemic]. I struggled for a while. For a while, I didn’t think that I could get pregnant,” she told UK’s The Times on July 24, 2022.
When she finally conceived, Alicia suffered an “extreme, painful” miscarriage. She kept her next pregnancy a secret, and photos of her holding a little boy first surfaced in August 2021. “We have a child now, but it took us time,” the Ex Machina star added.
The extremely private couple let fans know they welcomed a daughter following her May 2022 birth. Next to an Instagram photo of white baby socks on a brown knit blanket, the “Perfect” singer wrote, “Want to let you all know we’ve had another beautiful baby girl. We are both so in love with her, and over the moon to be a family of 4 x.” Ed and Cherry’s first daughter, Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran, arrived in August 2020.

Colin confirmed on August 18, 2021, that the couple welcomed their first child together, a son named Cosmo. The Black Widow star had skipped in-person movie premieres for the two months prior, sparking pregnancy rumors, but she was never photographed with a baby bump.
Colin revealed they were expecting their first child together on August 15, during a stand-up performance at the Ridgefield Playhouse in Connecticut. “Colin performed two sold out shows here and announced to the audience that he and Scarlett are expecting soon,” a fan who was in attendance confirmed to Life & Style on August 17, a day before the couple’s birth announcement.
In a candid interview with Vanity Fair , Scarlett said that she was “so protective of both pregnancies, not wanting to feel scrutinized in the public eye. I wanted to be able to have my own feelings about my changing body without other people also telling me how they saw me, whether it was positive or negative.” The actress also revealed that she “realized when I was pregnant with my son [Cosmo], it’s funny how much stuff people put on you when you’re pregnant—their hopes or their judgment or their desire, a lot of that is put on pregnant women.”
The couple announced on January 21, 2022, that they had become paretns. “We are overjoyed to confirm that we have welcomed a baby via surrogate,” the joint statement began that each shared on their respective Instagram accounts, adding, “We respectfully ask for privacy during this special time as we focus on our family. Thank you so much.”
The baby news came just after the actress revealed in a Vanity Fair interview that she and Nick had family plans. “They’re a big part of our desire for the future,” Priyanka shared about having children with Nick, adding, “By God’s grace, when it happens, it happens.”

The former Dawson’s Creek star secretly became a father of six after his wife Kimberly’s private pregnancy. The actor announced on November 22, 2021, that they had welcomed a son named Jeremiah, whom they would call “Remi” as a nickname. After the birth of the couple’s daughter, Gwendolyn, in 2018, Kimberly lost two babies in a row, both past the 17-week mark in her pregnancies.
“After experiencing late-term #pregnancyloss twice in a row (both at 17+ weeks), we kept this one quiet. Truthfully, I was terrified when I found out,” James wrote in the Instagram post announcing his sixth child’s birth. He revealed that after their two prior pregnancy losses, Kimberly was diagnosed with a weakened cervix and she underwent surgery. Jeremiah was delivered naturally at the family’s Texas ranch, and James declared, “Life is beautiful.”

“I’ve been off socials for a while as I was taking some time to enjoy cooking up this little human,” she wrote. “We are so grateful for this little soul … that he chose us as his parents.
