During pregnancy staying hydrated is a top priority. But drinking water all day can get really boring. This list will share some ideas for healthy pregnancy drinks.
When you are pregnant, your fluid requirements go up. During pregnancy you should drink about 80 oz (or 10 cups) of liquid per day.
While the majority of this should be water, it can also include other beverages. The key is to make sure that what you do drink is actually good for you and your baby.
So what to drink during pregnancy besides water?
There are lots of lists out there of the best drinks during pregnancy with pretty generic recommendations.

These are some of the best drinks for pregnancy! 
Also known as switchel, these drinks contain a mixture of water, lemon or lime, fresh ginger, apple cider vinegar and a little sweetener like honey, maple syrup or black strap molasses. Fruit can be added for an additional twist. This drink is refreshing and can help restore electrolytes making it a great option for what to drink in the first trimester to stay hydrated through morning sickness.

Smoothies are another great pregnancy drink, especially in the first trimester when it can be hard to keep foods down. Check out this list of pregnancy smoothie recipes for some good options. 
Choose fruits with low sugar content
Also make sure to add protein and healthy fats to your smoothies so that it balances the sugar and reduces blood sugar spikes. Good options for protein include a handful of nuts like almonds or walnuts, nut butter, chia seeds, hemp seeds, cottage cheese, greek yogurt or tahini.

Many Moms have trouble digesting cow’s milk. There are many alternatives to cow’s milk that offer a wide range of health benefits for Mom and baby. 
Almond milk is high in calcium, magnesium and iron making it a good choice for those choosing not to drink cow’s milk. Other good choices include coconut milk, rice milk, hemp milk and cashew milk. (source)
Just make sure to look for varieties that have basic ingredients and contain no added sugar.

Looking to add more probiotics to your diet during pregnancy? Drinking kombucha is an easy way to add more beneficial bacteria to your diet. 
Kombucha is a fermented tea that has been around for thousands of years and can help boost your immune system and gut health (source). Kombucha is high in b vitamins which can help ease morning sickness symptoms for some Moms. 
The fizziness of Kombucha makes it a nice substitute for soft drinks. You can make your own Kombucha at home or buy it in several different flavors at your local grocery store or Whole Foods. 
Worried you have to give up Starbucks during pregnancy? While coffee isn’t necessarily off limits during pregnancy as long as you stick to under 200 mg of caffeine a day, avoiding caffeine can be healthier for you and your baby. The Strawberry Acai Refresher aka “Pink Drink” is a good drink for pregnant women trying to avoid caffeine, but still wanting to hit up Starbucks.

Adding additional protein to your diet during pregnancy is essential for growing a healthy baby. In Real Food for Pregnancy (read full review here), Lily Nichols recommends a daily protein intake of 80 g in the 1st half of pregnancy and 100 g in the 2nd half. 
Drinking protein shakes is a good way to get more protein without having to eat a ton more food. During pregnancy use protein shakes as additional nourishment, rather than a meal replacement.
Protein shakes can come ready made or in powder form that you mix with water, milk or smoothie ingredients. Most protein powders contain around 20 g of protein. When purchasing, read the labels and watch out for powders that contain artificial sweeteners, ingredients and fillers.
Good options include either a 100% whey protein powder or a plant based protein powder to help meet you daily protein requirements. 
Kefir is a fermented drink that can be made with any source of milk including coconut, goat, cow and rice. It can even be made with water. It contains as many as 30 good bacteria that can help boost your immune system, gut health and help with better absorption of key nutrients. Kefir is also a good source of folate, biotin (b vitamins), and vitamin k2. (source)
The best way to get kefir is to make your own. It is one of the simplest ferments to make as you simply combine a pack of starter grains with milk (or water) and wait 24 hrs. Homemade kefir will be higher in probiotic content than store bought varieties. However there are many brands and flavors of kefir available in grocery stores. Just make sure to choose a variety that is low in sugar and has basic ingredients. 
Yes! Drinking bone broth is an excellent way to get extra nutrients and fluids during pregnancy. It can be particularly helpful to drink in the first trimester to help with dehydration, easing nausea and boosting nutrition. 
Bone broth is rich in minerals, vitamins, gelatin, collagen and the amino acid glycine. Glycine is important for the synthesis of fetal DNA, and your baby’s bone, organ and skin development. It may also help with preventing stretch marks during pregnancy. (Source – Real Food for Pregnancy pg 37)
You can make you own bone broth with leftover chicken or beef bones. See the slow cooker recipe below. Or if you prefer, buy a quality bone broth like this one on Amazon. 
To drink – simply heat a mug full of broth and add a dash of sea salt.

Hey, love this article! I do want to let you know as a Starbucks employee that the Pink Drink does have caffeine. It’s made from green tea leaves that they leave caffeinated. A grande can have up to 50mg of caffeine. I was downing these daily while at work until my boss told me they were still caffeinated.
This is a very helpful list. Some of these drinks I am not sure if I could get myself to drink, but I love Kombucha and it is great to hear that it can help ease the morning sickness for some moms. I have had minor bouts of nausea so far, and have stuck with ginger ale, but I will have to pick up some Kombucha next grocery trip and give this a try.
Yes give the Kombucha a try and let me know if it helps! The ginger flavored one is my favorite.
I bought the Synergy brand, I alternated between the flavors, and it did help ease some of the nausea. I still haven’t had much but when I did I would drink some and it seemed to help!

Let’s start with the most obvious choice. You need to drink water to stay healthy. This is true even when you are not pregnant. But during pregnancy, the need for water goes up. H2O is essential for the health of your blood cells. You also need water to prevent dehydration, which can lead to premature labor in some women (1).
Here is another healthy way to prevent dehydration. Coconut water is a natural isotonic beverage. It is also beneficial for replenishing natural salts in the body. So, next time you feel thirsty, reach for some fresh coconut water.
Who doesn’t love a cool glass of lemonade? A great way to stay hydrated, a glass of lemonade also provides vitamin C. If morning sickness is getting you down, lemonade will be a good option for you.
A glass of milk a day can help you stay healthy and fit. This holds true not just during pregnancy but also all through your life. If milk is not your cup of tea, you can try other milk-based drinks like smoothies or milkshakes that include the goodness of fruits and milk. You can also try buttermilk. You thought all things herbal were safe? Not really! We don’t know much about the effects of the various ingredients present in herbal teas on a pregnancy. So, be safe than sorry and stay off herbal teas for the duration of your pregnancy.
You need extra energy during pregnancy. But energy drinks are not a good choice. These drinks are full of caffeine, sugar, and other supplements. Just stick to healthy food for all your energy needs instead!
