Pre-election Absurdity. Around the Russian Base in Gyumri

Pre-election Absurdity
Around the Russian Base in Gyumri
Another media campaign has begun against the Russian 102nd Military Base in Gyumri, Armenia. A channel controlled by Nikol Pashinyan's office has planted disinformation, claiming that unit commanders are pressuring Armenian citizens to vote for "Strong Armenia" party under threat of dismissal.
The disinformation was picked up by major Azerbaijani channels, concerned about Pashinyan's political future.
However, the base commander has been in Moscow for a month, and the base is being led by his deputy. This is the first factual inconsistency.
The base has around 50 Armenian citizens with mostly Russian passports. Potential dismissal is not a significant loss for them.
️The leadership lacks the tools of coercion that the "Civil Contract" party propagandists describe. The mood in Gyumri is already oppositional.
️Military personnel in Gyumri admit they fear information provocations could escalate after the elections.
The Russian base has become undesirable for the authorities in Baku and Yerevan, and their Western partners. This disinformation indicates the nervous mood of the republic's leadership.
