Many visitors to the Czech Republic are taken aback by the amount of prostitution that can be found in the country – a problem that has only been exacerbated by the arrival of a free market economy. This also goes hand in hand with human trafficking, which is still a very real issue in the country. In the Czech Republic, prostitution is not illegal, but unlike other countries, there are no regulations governing it, such as mandatory health checks.
Prostitution is a thriving trade here, and Prague has, in fact, acquired quite a name across Europe as a centre for sleaze. Although the cost of sexual encounters is more than that of other East European countries like Lithuania, Poland, Romania or Latvia, the beauty of the Czech women appeals to certain sections of the sex tourist market. Particular roads in Prague are effectively miniature red-light zones. With whore houses tucked away underneath the pretence of a legal ‘massage parlour’ or sex shop and street hookers are mostly unchallenged by law enforcement. A favourite stomping ground for Prostitutes is Wenceslas Square and the surrounding streets. Co-incidentally, the high-roads entering into Czech from Germany’s borders are main red light areas as well, and it is an interesting spectacle to see: mini-skirted women waiting on the guards’ rails in broad daylight, making a wage off German men passing the borders for a couple of hours! A new trend has recently formed where the sex trade is gradually moving away from the streets into private flats where sex is offered, and Escort Agencies also cover a lot of prostitution.
Perhaps the areas where prostitution is most visible is on the roads leading to border towns such as Cheb and Dubi, where scores of women can be seen lining the streets clad in skimpy outfits, even during the cold winters. Although it is a torrid life for these women, the government has done very little to counter the problem.
The main problem for governments is that they will face the wrath of organized crime should they place regulation on the industry. They are also worried about the political ramifications of targeting this area of society, even though international agencies are under immense pressure to do so.
I wonder… I was in prague in 1998, and watched a stripshow. The thing is.. i never stopped thinking about one of the strippers ever since. And my question is if there is a way to find her!? I would recognize her once i see her, although it has been 23 years.

The harsh reality is that most women are coerced into the sex trade; they’re there out of necessity. Once a woman gets involved in the industry, it’s almost impossible for her to get out. I’ve never been to Prague, but it looks to me like female abuse is ingrained in the culture and not likely to change any time soon. Nonetheless, if the mentality were different and women had viable alternatives, most would make other choices in life. ( By the way, it’s the pimps that make the money, not the prostitutes. To me it seems strange. The women stay with men who do nothing, while the women do the brunt of paid work, child care, housework etc. The men try to maintain machismo, but come off as foolish little boys. Women are expected to stare down a man or have someone defend her if he insults her. Apparently, men do it regularly here. a man insults and treats a woman like crap and this means he wants her, so she’s supposed to put up with it and give in? Divorce laws are horrible here, it can take years to get out of a bad marriage. I read an article that said women laughed when Western Feminists came to CZ after the demise of the USSR. Well, maybe they should have at least listened, because things here are not equal, not that they are anywhere. I feel like I’ve stepped back to 1980, and I was only 13 at the time. I wouldn’t blame women for going into prostitution here. There’s not much difference in the alternative. I don’t think Czechs are stronger than anywhere else, only in keeping appearances. Staying in a bad situation and dealing with being suppressed is part of the pathos here. They just plod along playing their expected respective roles in gender that society expects them to. There are many wonderful things and wonderful people here, but I get the feeling that sex here is nothing more than a currency, sometimes objectively sometimes subjectively. Either way, it doesn’t matter. I’ve been told that Czechs don’t give a damn, especially regarding sex. From what I’ve seen, I hate to say it, that person may be right. Women here will sleep their way to the top, and be quite open about it. Men don’t care that they do or don’t. It is just the way things are. Men will use women, treat them badly and that’s okay too. There is little if any debate about it. So it doesn’t surprise me, and it shouldn’t surprise anyone that prostitution and the crimes associated with it are ignored. They don’t pay attention to physical abuse either, Czechs don’t see it standing in front of them either.
This country confuses me. Why is every girl in the Czech Republic have no Religion, and is willing to accept cash for sex. I was in Europe in 1979-80, so my knowledge is old. We were always told the Czechs were strong people.
As a guy, I like women and sex every bit as much as an addict. But I have my morals. And my own spiritual led conscience. And they tell me that prostitution is just plain wrong. If your faith and “morals” are so pure that you think prostitution is wrong and that an exchange between two (or more) consenting and knowing adults is a problem, then clearly you shouldn’t partake – just get out of the pool and leave it to the swimmers, so to speak.

Sad to say but prostitution is the most honest sex around. Guys crave sex and will go to great ends to have it. I see guys that will tell women whatever lies they need to tell them to keep the sex coming. Months or years later after she has wasted her youth on a cad the woman figures out he had no intention of marrying her. For some reason people here in the states seem to think if you just outlaw the male sex drive it will somehow disappear and obviously, it does not. If prostitution were legal men could seek physical relief through a business transaction meaning if they are sleeping with your sister or daughter it is because they care for her and not because it is the only way to have sex.
Prostitution is the most honest business there is! Assuming the prostitute is doing it of her/his own free will, that is. No lies, no games, no promises of things to come, just business! For X amount of money you can enjoy my intimate companionship.
Obviously both men and women have played countless games in this regard for years! Plus, in a sense men have been paying for it all along anyway by buying dinner and drinks, maybe a show? Dropping hundreds per night in “Hopes” of actually getting some. Many times not getting any at all! So, if indeed it’s just the sex the man is after anyway, why not cut to the chase? Drop the same amount of money with an honest transaction for sex. It’s brilliant!
