DC Comics' Power Girl is one of the most visually stunning superheroes ever. These awesome cosplays make the women seem Kryptonian!
Power Girl is a firm fan favorite amongst comic book readers, and ever since she became a member of the Justice Society of America, Kara Zor-L has featured in some revolutionary storylines, such as 1985’s universe-altering Crisis on Infinite Earths .
When it comes to cosplaying as Earth-Two’s most famous heroine, it can be quite a difficult task to make it stand out from the rest. Sometimes it’s a case of changing the costume completely or playing with different genres, and other times it’s as simple as showing off a different kind of attitude to make it work. We look at 10 awesome Power Girl Cosplays that look Kryptonian.
The quality of Yaya Han’s Power Girl is evident in every part of her costume, and the classic look of the character’s origins is very clear. “I based my costume on the Kotobukiya Bishoujo statue, which stays true to the classic costume design, with a little different belt buckle, and a very high cut leotard,” Han says on her website .
The quality of the fabric gives each part of the costume real authenticity, making Han’s cosplay one of the best around. The backdrop of the city does wonders for the shot, making Han’s Power Girl stand out in such a beautiful environment.
Perhaps one of the most mysterious cosplay photos of Power Girl taken is this one of fitness instructor and model Alyssa Loughran . Born in 1991, Loughran became a model and fitness icon after growing unhappy with her appearance whilst at college. Jeff Zoet manages to encapsulate the majestic nature of the Kryptonian warrior, as well as highlighting her strength and beauty.
Whilst many cosplayers go for action poses, this subtle shot of Power Girl in reflection holds more meaning with the calming nature of her posture, and it’s a refreshing take on Kara Zor-L. The lighting is also exceptional, showcasing Zoet’s talents behind the camera.
At Comic Con 2013, Vegas PG debuted her take on Power Girl with a Red Son version of the hero. In Superman: Red Son , writer Mark Millar wonders what would happen if Kal-L’s spacecraft had crashed in the Soviet Union instead of Kansas? It’s a very different version of the Superman story we’re all familiar with, but still an excellent retelling in its own right.
Vegas PG puts a great Soviet spin on Power Girl, opting for the famous red of the USSR, mixed with grey as opposed to the clean white that Kara Zor-L is used to, giving a unique spin on a classic costume.
Ally McLean works in the video game industry, previously working at Plastic Wax – an animation and video effects studio known for such games as Hitman 2 , Injustice 2 , Tomb Raider , and Fallout: New Vegas . Although she has a very different career path now, she was once a famous professional cosplayer known as Eve Beauregard. Before getting a cosplay job at CD Projekt Red for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt , she took on a plethora of different characters, and one such cosplay that took our breaths away was Power Girl. The laser beams shooting from her eyes as she flies through space show just how talented photographer Kris Ezergailis is.
Taking a character and completely changing the genre is a difficult task to undertake, but the Texas-born cosplayer Jennifer Van Damsel has done so superbly, bringing a steampunk flavor to the character. She does all her own sewing, and has been cosplaying for years, so it’s no surprise just how fantastic her Power Girl cosplay is.
Not only does the corset fit her so well, but the lace adds a great touch of elegance, and her hairstyle really tops off the variety and beauty of her cosplay. If you’re a fan of her work, there’re plenty more original cosplays on her Instagram account, all worth a few minutes of your time.
We all know that even super-powered aliens need help from time to time, and in Power Girl’s case, getting a bit of assistance from her relative is never going to be underappreciated. In Florencia Sofen’s cosplay, she embodies the character brilliantly, adding yet another successful character to her portfolio, which already includes Spider-Gwen , Jade from Mortal Kombat, and Ciri from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
On her Facebook page , Sofen says, “one of the most important points of wearing a cosplay is having fun. Each person has different reasons to start cosplaying or keep on it, but you have to enjoy it,” and we couldn’t agree more.
Milos Mlady is an incredibly gifted photographer. Looking at his portfolio, there’re so many fantastic cosplayers taking on lots of different characters, ranging from superheroes to fantasy, with models cosplaying as Gamora, Sauron, and Wonder Woman.
One of our favorites is Cynthia Chovska ’s take on Power Girl. The clouds in the background highlight the graceful pose that Chovska makes, and the lighter blue belt, boots, and gloves offer a subtle yet striking change to the outfit. The light blue accentuates her figure, as well as bring out the color of the sky behind her, giving us a wonderful take on such a powerful character.
Kristen Lanae is a full-time cosplayer and has featured in plenty of photo shoots taking on lots of different characters, ranging from Pennywise to Daphne from Scooby Doo . She’s also a partnered Twitch Streamer, and has over twenty-six thousand followers on Instagram , making her one of the most popular out there.
Whilst she may be wearing the Power Girl outfit worn by lots of other cosplayers, it’s the attention to detail in her pose, and the quality of the scene that really stands out. Her make up adds a lot to the shot, and the way her hair is blowing in the wind gives it a wonderful realism.
Miss Piratesavvy started her career as a YouTuber , creating tutorials to make the art of cosplay design more accessible to the public, as well as guides to making props. Lori Lynn – her real name – hails from California and finds cosplaying to be a great outlet for her. “As an artist, I thrive through creativity. Cosplay has been an amazing outlet to express myself,” Lynn says on her Facebook page .
Her take on Power Girl features a red corset that gives her body great definition, and the loose-fitting blue belt tops off the look nicely. It’s great to see a playful side to the character, as she’s not always fighting the bad guys.
Cheyenne Wise proves that action poses don’t have to be the norm, as her take on Power Girl is full of attitude. According to Wise’s Patreon page , she’s been cosplaying seriously since 2013, and has a degree in Film Costuming from Columbia College Chicago.
Not only that, but Wise also volunteers for a local charity called Critical Care Comics that deliver comics to children in hospitals whilst dressed as superheroes. How cool would it be to receive a comic from Cheyenne dressed as Power Girl? Regardless, her take on Power Girl is stunning, and her epic Afro adds a unique yet special take on the character.
