This place is only being propped up by its staff. In short, I would not make a conscious decision to book myself into this run-down hotel again, but if life sees otherwise, then at least I know I'm in good hands I stayed in 2 different rooms during my 3 night stay, and I was sorely disappointed. And the blankets are those extremely uncomfortable, stiff ones that feel like gurney sacks. However, special kudos must be given to the staff there, who were very accommodating throughout my stay. From helping me rent a car, to trying to figure out the bus schedule, to making my dining experience enjoyable - their service definitely made amends to the otherwise abysmal state of the hotel. And the dinner was pretty good too. Riding a bicycle provided by the hotel for free - which is a nice gesture into Portaferrario is quite a thrill. Riding it mainly uphill for the 6km trek back to the hotel - unless if you're harboring hopes of winning the Tour de France, it just seems impossible.
