You may have recently received notification in the mail from NYS Tax & Finance in regards to your current HUT Filing status. This does not affect how you are submitting your paperwork to TRANS-COM. All stays the same
Some companies that currently file quarterly HUT are now being changed to annual
Some companies that currently file monthly HUT are now being changed to quarterly
Please forward us any correspondence you may have received regarding this change.
Not all company’s HUT filing status is changing – the change is based on how frequently your vehicles travel within NYS.
For those who report IFTA taxes, there will be no change in filing status for IFTA – it will continue to be filed on a QUARTERLY basis.
We will continue to manage your Vehicle Tax Account on a monthly basis going forward. It does remain IMPERATIVE that we receive or have access to your mileage (and for those who file IFTA, your fuel) on a MONTHLY basis to ensure your taxes ARE filed in a timely and accurate manner.

NY’s Labor Department has released new guidelines on recreational cannabis use in the State. Here is what you need to know:
· Employers are banned from testing employees for cannabis unless they are visibly high on the job
· Smelling of marijuana, or other observable signs that do not indicate impairment are not grounds for a test
· Employers are still allowed to ban possession of marijuana on the job site
· Employees required to be tested under federal and state law will still be tested for marijuana

Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act was signed into law by New York State, however it is still “Not Legal Federally”, so employees needing to do Federal Drug Testing & or/Drug Free Workplace requirements have to still comply with the specific requirements.
• The new law doesn’t prohibit Marijuana testing, but it is now illegal to discriminate against the legal use of Marijuana. Employers can be exposed for Marijuana discrimination.
• A positive test can still be of value to the employer

What is a SCAC Code? Do you Qualify?
The Standard Carrier Alpha Code (SCAC) is a system that assigns unique two-to-four letter codes to transportation companies for identification purposes. The National Motor Freight Traffic Association (NMFTA) developed the SCAC identification codes in the late 1960s to facilitate computerization in the transportation industry. It is for Customs entry, when doing business with many shippers, on rate tariffs filed with regulatory agencies, government bills of lading and on bids for government traffic.
Questioning why You received a SCAC Code Renewal Notice?
If it is from the National Motor Freight Traffic Association, it is valid. Be careful, if it is not, it could be a SCAM! It is possible that a SCAC code was gotten at one-point in time last year, either because of crossing the border or maybe someone in the company applied for it not knowing that they did not really need it.
Not all motor carriers are required to possess a SCAC code, and the DOT, or any other government agency, will not shut down or fine a carrier simply because the motor carrier is not in possession of a SCAC code. There are no regulations requiring compliance with SCAC documentation and registration.
