Whether they like to admit it or not, a number of celebrities have gotten down and dirty on camera . Some made X-rated films before they were famous, others did them in the wake of floundering Hollywood careers — and then there are the stars whose leaked sex tapes turned into some of their most-seen projects.
Here is a look at some of the most notorious celebs who made skin flicks.
In 2001 Paris Hilton made what would become one of the aughts’ most infamous sex tapes, with then boyfriend Rick Salomon. Three years later, their tryst was released as “1 Night in Paris” — an explicit video that, she told the Los Angeles Times in 2019, was issued without her consent. Hitting public view just as Hilton and Nicole Richie’s reality show, “The Simple Life,” premiered, the triple-X release increased the socialite’s fame but also left her considering suicide. Hilton insisted to the newspaper: “It’s not something that I would ever want to be known for.”
During his pre-“Rocky” days in New York City, Sylvester Stallone found unusual ways to make ends meet. He reportedly cleaned lion cages at the Central Park Zoo, worked as a theater usher — and starred in a 1969 soft-core porn film called “Party at Kitty and Stud’s.” Stallone was paid $200 for two days of work on the movie, which was re-released as “Italian Stallion” after the actor’s career took off. Any regrets aside, porn clearly beat the alternative: “It was either do that movie or rob someone,” he told Playboy, adding that he had been sleeping in a bus station at the time. “I was at the end of my rope.”
While many celebrities regret their decisions to appear in skin flicks, Maitland Ward , who made her porn debut in 2019’s “Drive,” is not one of them. In fact, the actress revels in her choice to leave behind a squeaky clean past — Ward co-starred in the family-friendly ABC sitcom “Boy Meets World” from 1998 to 2000 — and is proud to have won a trio of Adult Video News (AVN) porn awards in January 2020, including one for best three-way. “When people say, ‘She had to turn to porn,’ I laugh,” Ward told The Daily Beast . “This is a good thing and I am making more [money] now.”
Not exactly a shrinking violet, Pamela Anderson made her way to Hollywood for a 1989 Playboy magazine photo shoot — she would go on to appear on 15 of the men’s mag’s covers — and later became famous for running around in a red swimsuit on “Baywatch.” But she found notoriety with a leaked sex tape — she has called it “a compilation of vacations we were naked on” — “Pam & Tommy Lee: Stolen Honeymoon,” with now ex-husband Tommy Lee of Mötley Crüe. Allegedly stolen from their home and released in 1998, it led to the couple suing the film’s distributor and landing a $1.5 million judgment. In 2005, another sex tape from Anderson’s past, this time with Poison singer Bret Michaels, surfaced. In a twist, Anderson married Paris Hilton’s sex-tape co-sta r, Rick Salomon, in 2014.
“Game of Thrones” is not fit for prudes. In fact, the show featured several actors who had made porn , including Sibel Kikelli, who played Shae on the racy HBO hit. According to the German tabloid Bild, Kikelli starred in a series of hardcore flicks before making it as a serious actress. However, it seems to have caused a serious rift in her life. “The disgrace is too great for the family,” her father told Bild. “I can never forgive her for it. I don’t ever want to see her again.”
Before the 2007 release of Kim Kardashian’s sex tape , she was seemingly most famous for being a sidekick to Paris Hilton. Her steamy video tryst, “Kim Kardashian Superstar,” with her ex, singer Willie “Ray J” Norwood, was the ultimate career boost — even though Kardashian initially denied being in it. Eventually, she settled with distributor Vivid Entertainment, who reportedly paid Kardashian $5 million. In 2016, Ian Halperin claimed in his book “Kardashian Dynasty” that Kardashian her manager mother, Kris Jenner, had deliberately leaked the tape. Halperin quoted a source in the adult film industry who said, “A mutual friend of Kim and Paris [Hilton] had advised her that if she wanted to achieve fame, a sex tape would be the way to go . . . Kim had discussed the idea of producing a tape with her family beforehand.” Vivid Entertainment’s founder, however, told The Post those rumors were nonsense.
And then there’s the celebrity porno that didn’t exactly star the celebrity. Dustin Diamond , who played “Screech” on the early ’90s kiddie sitcom “Saved by the Bell,” released his own sex video — “Screeched: Saved by the Smell” — in 2006. But there was just a catch. He later claimed that he didn’t do the actual porn work. “I got a stunt wang. I’m not an idiot,” Diamond told The Daily Beast . “I’m not going to really put myself out there. So I got a stunt person to come in. And I thought, what if this thing makes $3 million?” But the market for Screech porn turned out to be thin, and Diamond admitted to having made nowhere close to $3 million

Colleen Marie Applegate , known professionally as
Shauna Grant (May 30, 1963 – March 23, 1984), was an American pornographic actress and nude model . She ran away from her small town in Minnesota and proceeded to appear in over 30 pornographic films, earning up to $100,000 in her two-year career. Grant died by suicide after the arrest of her partner in March 1984. [1] She was inducted into the XRCO Hall of Fame in 1999. [2] She was sometimes credited as Callie Aimes, Callie Aims, or Colleen Applegate.

Born in Bellflower, California , Colleen Applegate grew up in the small town of Farmington, Minnesota . Her family moved there in 1973, when her father, Philip Applegate, took a managerial position with the Central Telephone Company of Minnesota. Applegate was a cheerleader in high school and graduated from Farmington High in 1981. She stayed in the town, working first as a cashier and then as a repair clerk with the phone company.

One night in December of that same year, she consumed a handful of prescription sinus pills in an attempt at suicide . [3] Her father said he never discussed the suicide attempt with his daughter; he and his wife at the time (Colleen's mother, Karen Lee Applegate) believed their daughter was merely seeking attention. According to the Frontline documentary, the entire family had at least one group session at a counseling center during which no one really talked about the situation. [4]

In March 1982, when news spread about her overdose, Applegate ran away from home with her boyfriend, [1] Mike Marcell to California.

After arriving in Los Angeles , Applegate and Marcell unsuccessfully pursued several employment leads. Marcell then saw an ad for the World Modeling Agency in Van Nuys , which sought recruits for "figure modeling". Accompanied by Marcell, Applegate visited the agency's owner, Jim South , who set up a photo session with legendary soft-core photographer J. Stephen Hicks. (Hicks' work was frequently featured in Penthouse . [ citation needed ] )

Her first pictorial's theme featured a mock camping set and was published by Club . Hicks reflected on Applegate's appearance and personality, saying: "I deal with a lot of girls who are new in the business, a lot of young girls and a lot of girls from out of town. Colleen was so incredibly young and naive. She was completely un-hip and non-L.A." [ citation needed ]

Her wholesome, " girl next door " looks soon landed her work posing for other magazines such as Chic , Hustler , Swank , and Penthouse . But Hicks advised Applegate to get out of nude modeling quickly, because when all of the magazines had used her, the only thing left for her would be hardcore movies. "You know, you take a typical girl that's used to working at McDonald's or at a shoe store, where she's used to making a minimum wage, and suddenly she's given the opportunity to get made up, and be in front of people who tell her she's beautiful, and make as much money in a day as she was making in three weeks and, um, they change. They change. And that's sad." [5]

Almost immediately, Applegate progressed to filming hardcore photo sessions for Suze Randall .

Applegate's relationship with her boyfriend did not endure their first two months in California; Marcell left her to return to Minnesota and ultimately joined the U.S. Army . Before his induction, he informed some residents of her small town that Applegate was involved with pornography, which caused her family much embarrassment. In the Frontline documentary, Marcell refused to speak about his relationship with Applegate, except to say that he no longer cared about her. [6]

Ignoring Hicks' advice, Applegate continued working with World Modeling Agency, where she met veteran porn producer Bobby Hollander . Hollander launched her adult film career, suggesting what he felt was a "classy" stage name , Shauna Grant.

As a fast-rising adult entertainment personality, she was featured in Virginia , Suzie Superstar , and Flesh and Laces 1 & 2 , among many other films. Her pay rose from $300 a day to nearly $1,500. As Shauna Grant, she made dozens of popular adult movies, usually plot-oriented. In Suzie Superstar , she played the lead singer of a rock band.

Grant was provided with her own make-up artist, 27-year-old Laurie Smith (who was also an adult star). Smith, who co-starred with Grant in several movies (including Suzie Superstar , The Young Like It Hot , and Bad Girls IV ), also became Grant's best friend and fellow cocaine user during that period. She quit the adult film business for a short time following Grant's suicide. [ citation needed ]

Grant's popularity earned her three acting nominations at the March 1984 Erotic Film Awards. However, despite these accolades and her beauty, Grant had some difficulty getting work due to her cocaine addiction and lack of "enthusiasm" during sex scenes. In some circles she acquired the nickname "Applecoke" and gained a reputation for being flaky. [ citation needed ]

In 1983, Grant retired from the adult film industry after less than a year and just over 30 films and videos, in which she had sex on screen with 37 men, and after contracting herpes and having an abortion . [7] [8]

On March 14, 1984, she was a multiple nominee and presenter (with John Leslie ) at the 8th Annual Adult Film Association Awards show at the Coconut Grove Ambassador Hotel. While her desire to act in mainstream films had generated no offers, she was so prestigious at the time that famed director Francis Ford Coppola was seated at her table. [9]

That night she agreed to work on her first adult film in 10 months. Matinee Idol was due to begin filming in eight days in San Francisco, California . A few days after the awards show, her Minnesota boyfriend flew to Los Angeles to see her but Grant forgot about his arrival. Grant and Smith had partied and slept in the days following the awards show and lost track of time. At the same time Jake Ehrlich, another boyfriend and cocaine dealer of Grant, telephoned from prison saying that their relationship was over and that Grant needed to move out of his Palm Springs home. [10]

Grant persuaded her friend, veteran porn performer Kelly Nichols , to take the role intended for Grant. Grant also had the option of returning to Minnesota. Her parents offered to pay for her college expenses, but she believed she would no longer be comfortable at home in Minnesota. [ citation needed ]

On March 23, 1984, Grant died by suicide in Palm Springs by shooting herself with an AR-15 style .22 caliber rifle. [11]

Grant's funeral was held on March 28, 1984, at St. Michael's Church, a Catholic parish near the center of Farmington, Minnesota . [ citation needed ] She was buried at the Saint Michaels Catholic Cemetery, Farmington. [12]
