Which keyword to choose will depend on each search. For example:
If you already have the pornstar name you can use it to find the source or viceversa. If you suspect an image comes from a specific producer (Brazzers, MetArt, Kink) you can try introducing it. Even if it's not from there, you will get related results. If you suspect a picture comes from a professional photographer, not a porn medium, you can use "photography", "model", or a publishing site like Modelmayhem, 500px, DeviantArt, etc... If you don't have a clue you can refine your search with a keyword that describes the most relevant aspect of the image to find a description that might include the name or source (interracial, redhead, beach). Or, if you feel lucky, you can try a keyword that might lead directly to a source, like "gallery", "profile", "video", "download". This rarely works, though.

A common problem when looking for a source is having too many search results instead of too few (or none at all). There are way, WAY too many junk porn websites that just post random images without any kind of source, and at the beginning I lost too much time checking all results. Now, however, I tend to only look into the kind of websites that I know will at the very least offer some information to find the source. For that purpose, I classify websites into one of three kinds.
Affiliation galleries - Most professional porn producers have affiliation programs to promote their sites. These programs provide quality sample videos and galleries affiliates can post in your website, which for obvious reasons are properly credited. Places like Freeones, DefineBabe, or CoedCherry are among the best to find a source. Art communities - Actually, in many cases these are a source, not a means to find one. Nonetheless, photographers post their pictures in many different places, and too often they do not credit their models, so even if you do find a link to one of these sites you might have to still dig around a bit. Most common examples are DeviantArt, ModelMayhem, 500px, Photosight, etc. Downloading sites - I do not condone illegal downloads but the fact is these sites exist, and despite all effort of copyright holders they are still being listed by search engines. Most of them offer screenshots along the download links, and those are the ones you can sometimes find with a reverse search. Identification sites - Obviously, the best place to find a source is the one whose purpose is exactly that. The best and biggest one is NameThatPornstar, which is being listed more often by search engines now, so even though it doesn't always guarantee a result it's a must-check. And there's also NameThatPorn, which despite being a blatant rip-off of the former with fake users and sketchy advertising it's actually starting to gain traction, and now there's a reasonable number of solved requests.
Since ain't nobody got time for remembering the names of all the sources you might find in a Google search I use a browser extension to hide the bad ones. Personal Blocklist ( Chrome ) adds a link to the search results to block any domain from your searches (those results are not completely lost, just hidden from view, and there is a link at the bottom of each search results page with blocked links to show them if you want). Once you have blocked enough bad results (I'm over 500 domains so far) your search results will be much more clean and accurate, making it usually faster to find what you want.

Most animated gifs can be searched in the same way as a static picture, using the engines mentioned above. The problem is that gifs are created from random parts of a video (unlike pics, that are taken as such from the source), so they are usually harder to find. These are the steps I follow:
Currently there is not a tool to reverse search videos (at least not for general use; there is actually one to identify videos for copyright purposes that only professionals use), so you have to get more creative to find them. I normally use two methods: either a manual search, or using screenshots. They are both kind of cumbersome, but if done properly they can yields results.
I will write more about manual searches in the next (and probably last) comment. Regarding the other way, there is not much to explain: you take a tool, app or program like Window's Snipping Tool (which is the one I use) and take a screenshot of the video in the moment you will think is most likely to produce results (like, for instance, the first few seconds that are used as a presentation in the websites, or the money shot in the end). Some video players allow to pause it without leaving any GUI elements on the screen, so you can choose the frame freely, but they are the exception. Normally you have to leave the video running and take the screenshot on the go, so you need to time it properly or it will be too blurry. I take several screenshots of what I think are the key moments of the video (beginning, the different positions, money shot), save them, and then search them normally using the engines. As I said, this is pretty cumbersome, but it is usually the only way.
Large gifs suffer from the same issues. In fact, nowadays large gifs are usually short videos that do not even have the .gif extension although they are considered as such. But even when they do have the extension they often cannot be handled by the search engines (the limit is usually around 5Mb), so you need to find another way. Again, I either perform a manual search or take screenshots. There are usually three cases:
When the gif is in video format you can usually do a right click and open it in a new tab or window, which will reveal the video player controls. These controls allow to pause it without leaving visible elements, so it is easy to take a screenshot. If the gif has a .gif extension and is smaller than 16Mb, you can still use ezgif to split it and search the most appropriate frames. If the gif has a .gif extension but it's bigger than 16Mb and for some reason you cannot switch to the video version with player controls, then you don't have a choice but to take a screenshot on the go. Alternatively, there are browser apps that allow to pause gifs (I don't use any because they have given me troubles in the past, but maybe things have improved).

A very good source for videos you have zero information about are VOD (video on demand) commercial websites like VideosZ and VideoBox (no links to avoid spam), which have scene filters that allow you to narrow them down by performer characteristics, fetish or type of scene. You can also try with the advanced search engines of IAFD or AdultFilmDatabase, although the results will be much broader.
If that doesn't work, though, my last resort would be to perform a general search in Google (or sometimes Bing). The difficulty here is choosing the terms of search. My experience tells me that you cannot use more than three terms if you want to get precise results, better yet if it's just two, and that they have to be as specific as possible (PLEASE NOTE: if the terms are too generic Google will not give you adult-related results unless you add the word "porn", "sex" or something similar to the search). For example, "blonde sex" will offer too many results, but "platinum blonde anal" will narrow things down considerably. Pay attention to any details that might differentiate that scene from others (scenario, clothes, physical characteristics like tattoos or piercings, sex positions, fetishes), and then try to reduce it to just three words.
Finally, there's the question of amateur porn. In most cases you are probably shit out of luck because there's so much now, and so badly credited (a great deal of it comes from leaks/unauthorized publications), that it's usually impossible to find. There are still a few places where you can look, though:
In addition to all the advice above, one last recommendation related to videos: use Bing . It's as good as Google but a) you don't need to specify you are looking for porn (just turn Safe Search off and you're good to go), and b) it has a big thumbnail grid with mouseover previews that is great to find what you are looking for.

If you want my help finding a name or source please call @inadaptado in Smutty, or send me a private message in Smutty or Fantasti.cc . I will do my best to answer your request as soon as possible (it might take longer on weekends because I still have a life outside the Internet).
1) I DO accept requests of the following formats:
Images, gifs, and videos. Straight and gay sex. Professionals and amateurs (please note the latter is a lot harder and I have a much lower rate of success than the former). Softcore and hardcore. Vanilla and fetish porn (but not everything, see below).
2) I do NOT accept requests on any of the following forbidden topics:
Underage models - If before or after a search I'm aware a model is under 18 I will report it myself without giving any answer or warning. Bestiality - Only human porn with other humans, thanks. Prolapse - I would not touch that with a ten-feet pole. Shit or vomit - Pee is fine. I'm not entirely sure how I feel about anal creaming, though. Doxxing - That means finding and disclosing personal information (full name, address, place of work) of a person, particularly amateurs. I do not possess the skills to do that, and even if I did it's at best morally questionable and at worst a potential crime. 3) In Smutty, I do not credit images or videos posted by spammers and bots. Mostly because I do not want to help people who are abusing the system in their benefit (usually by using unrelated tags), but also because there's a chance they will eventually be kicked out of the site, which would make any search a waste of time.
Whenever I come across one of these users I put them on my ignore list, so even if you ask me to credit one of their uploads in a comment I will not see your call. This is my current list:
5) If I'm bored I will sometimes browse the #whois tag in Smutty, and answer some requests. But if they are not addressed to me (by calling @inadaptado) I will not make an extra effort to answer everything, only the ones I find more easily.
6) I'm open to chatting, flirting, questions, and bribes. Don't forget I'm in a straight monogamous relationship, though!

@ inadaptado can you find the vid of the 1 smutty pic link on my profile here. http://smutty.com/s/CvhAy/

@makiu I've removed the image link because it's a bit spam-y, but don't worry about it. I will have a look and see if I can find something, although I'm not very hopeful: there are big gaps in our records of 90s porn, so it's usually hard to find stuff.

ok, ill keep an eye on this, that is a hard movie, someone should know at least 1 performer and thanks for replying. Cheers!

Can you find her name. I tried following your steps but did not have any good luck. She is on my uploaded pics: http://fantasti.cc/user/adblol/images/image/5829111/

@inadaptado Thanks for your time man, if you got any clue i could search the rest.

It is hard to find photos with specific content types among the heaps of photographs available over the internet. Searching for image resources and complimentary information is a challenging task. Text-based search queries do not generate better results whereas reverse image search yields authentic data.
This reverseimagesearch.org provides an easy search by image utility that can find:
Are you in search of images that would match the one you had saved a few moments ago? Be it for personal or work use, just drop the URL or source image, and get the bulk of the most relevant pictures.
This reverse image search utility is powered by advanced artificial intelligence algorithms. It works by matching the submitted images with the pictures available in the database and indexed URLs.
In addition, this image finder runs a similarity check by matching the objects, shapes, color scheme, and other elements. The advanced algorithms also come with facial recognition features currently working for celebrities’ photos. It matches the facial features with all the images available in the database and internet.
The photo finder also utilizes image annotation to eliminate ambiguity from the final output to provide accurate and precise results. Additionally, all the major search engines are also integrated into the platform for delivering customized results.
Many people believe that the only reason to develop a search by image utility is to find an image or the relevant information. However, there are many other significant reasons for using a picture search tool. Some of them are as follows:
If you are a website owner, and often upload copyright pictures, you should understand the reality that your images may get re-used. The reverse picture lookup allows you to track where and when your image has been uploaded over the internet. You can easily discover the stolen images with this picture finder. This will enable you to decide whether the re-use is legal and adequate, or you need to take some serious steps against it.
You might have seen a similar picture on different platforms, and the sources claimed different events of this image. Now, how can you find which one of the sources is true? Or, is the picture genuine, or has it been doctored by some copycats? Reverse image search can be a game-changer in this regard, as it will find out all sources & relevant information about an image within no time.
While using social media, you may have gone through a situation where you found a suspicious account, and you couldn’t recognize that the profile is fake or not. But, now you can overcome this problem by doing a reverse picture search. You can upload the image from that profile on this online photo finder and it will find the image source and all the sites that are having that image within a few seconds. This approach will help you recognize fake accounts on social media.
