If you walked by your coworker today and saw hardcore porn filling her screen, there may be an innocent explanation. Some sort of hack is currently spewing porn and gore all over Facebook. It's a porn flood!
For the last couple days, Facebook has been "inundated with pornographic images and links," reader Adam Sank tells us.
They appear as updates on your news feed, but they're attributed to users who have nothing to do with their being posted.
The pictures are REALLY graphic — a closeup of a woman fingering herself, an erect dick, etc.
Facebook seems to be at a loss as to how to stop this from happening. It's kind of funny, but also scary when you're at work and your boss walks past your computer just as a giant cock appears on your screen.
I haven't personally seen any porn, but Sank sent a screenshot of his newsfeed graced with a hugely tumescent dude as proof. (We'll spare you the sight.)
It's not just porn, either. The sorts of things you'd find on an average trip to 4chan are now just popping up in innocent user's newsfeeds. Actress Courtney Zito told the Christian Post today, "Just saw one with a guy who had his skull bashed in and his brains on the street. Another one was the devil... Besides the countless naked girls. I'm about ready to deactivate…"
Judging from the huge stream of complaints on Twitter, the smut and gore is cutting a wide swath on Facebook. Here are a few tweets from a one minute span:
One particular memorable picture making the rounds is something called "Jesus porn?"

Worms and scams aren't uncommon on Facebook, but the porn flood appears to be of a different magnitude than most Facebook exploits. What's going on? One potential lead: hackers associated with Anonymous claimed last week to be developing a powerful "Guy Fawkes virus" with which they would attack Facebook. Spamming gore and porn is definitely one of Anonymous' trademark moves .

Pornographic pictures are being shared by hundreds of social media users on an X-rated Facebook page which anyone including children can join.
The obscene UK-based group has more than 1,500 members with users urged to share their own pictures during a “happy hour” every Wednesday.
For those who aren’t a member, the "UK Sexy Singles Come and Mingle" group may seem like a place for like-minded single people across the country to meet others.
However, a closer look reveals a different side, where hundreds of explicit pictures are openly posted and members are told: “Have fun you filthy f********."
The page description states: "Hello and welcome to UK Singles laughter and love house 21+.
"A place to have fun, flirt, banter, chat, enjoy games, make friends and maybe find that special some we're all looking for!!
"We're a friendly bunch and welcome all new members. Please post an introduction when you join so people can interact with you.
However, insiders have revealed that the page is much more than just a place for people to meet, with one telling The Sun that it is actually a "non-stop stream of porn which anyone can join".
He added: "I joined the group with a blank profile, no picture, no nothing. You have to request to join, but they do not do any checks at all.
"There's men posting pictures of their member, women doing similar. It doesn't end.
"It's horrific that people can just make something that just resembles porn and nothing is done about it."
It has even been suggested that group members have been playing online games where they post a picture of themselves and get others to guess how old they are.
During this time, one member reportedly admitted they were only 16 and it was later removed by group admins.
Facebook rules state that users need to be at least 13-years-old before they can join and will close or suspend any accounts of users it discovers are younger.
A spokesman for Facebook said: "We want people to have a positive experience on Facebook which is why we have easy ways for our community to report content and profiles that they find upsetting or they feel break our Community Standards.
"We investigated and found that the images have already been removed from this group.
"It is our policy that we restrict the display of nudity because some audiences within our global community may be sensitive to this type of content – particularly because of their cultural background or age."

Don't click any porn links on Facebook. Just don't. It's a good rule of thumb, but there's an extra good reason right now. There's a troubling type of porn-based malware that's apparently infected over 110,000 Facebook users in two days. And you could get the same Click Transmitted Disease.
The Facebook malware is disguised as a Flash update . Basically, you'll see a link to a porn video in one of your friend's posts. If you click on it (don't) you'll be taken to a website that may or may not be disguised as YouTube and see the first few seconds of the video. Then the video will prompt you to download a Flash update to keep watching. If you do, you'll infect your computer with a Trojan that can highjack your keyboard and mouse.
Once you're infected, the malware starts posting porn links to your Facebook wall and tagging up to 20 friends each time. Unlike blasting messages, this technique enables the malware to keep a low profile (as low as you can while posting literal porn), while also displaying itself publicly on your profile. That's evidently how the malware infected so many Facebook users so quickly.
We haven't seen this malware in action, and we don't want to. We've also reached out to Facebook to see how they're handling the issue. Regardless, you can save yourself the hassle of dealing with it if you just avoid clicking porn links on Facebook. Don't do it! In general! [ ThreatPost ]
Update (4:10pm): Facebook just issued the following statement:
We use a number of automated systems to identify potentially harmful links and stop them from spreading. In this case, we're aware of these malware varieties, which are typically hosted as browser extensions and distributed using links on social media sites. We are blocking links to these scams, offering cleanup options, and pursuing additional measures to ensure that people continue to have a safe experience on Facebook.
