A couple in the US has been ordered by a judge to pay damages worth $30,441 (Rs 22 lakh) to their son for throwing out his pornography collection.
The ruling came from US district judge Paul Maloney in Michigan eight months after David Weking won a lawsuit against his parents, according to reports.
Subsequently, judge Maloney ordered David's parents to pay $30,441 to him for destroying his collection of adult content that comprised made-up films, magazines, and other items.
David, 42, had claimed that his porn collection was worth $29,000 before it was thrown out by his parents, according to a report by The Guardian. He added that his parents had no right to throw out his collection.
The incident reportedly took place when David was living at his parents' house for 10 months, after going through a divorce. The 43-year-old realised his porn collection was missing only after he moved from his parents' home in Grand Haven to Muncie, Indiana.
During the court ruling, the judge followed a value set by an expert. He then ordered the parents to pay $14,500 to David's attorney, in addition to the damages.
It is reported that David's father sent him an email after getting rid of the porn. It read: “Frankly, David, I did you a big favor getting rid of all this stuff.”
Judge Maloney, however, said it was a clear case of destruction of property.
“There is no question that the destroyed property was David’s property. Defendants repeatedly admitted that they destroyed the property,” said judge Maloney in December 2020.
David's parents had defended their actions by saying they had a right to act as their son's landlords.
