Porn has a lot in common with spaceflight. In both cases, a large blast is crucial to the mission's success.
Plus, the zero-gravity aspect of spaceflight can swell the imagination and conjure up all sorts of erotic flights of fancy.
Now Pornhub.com is hoping to thrust itself into the stratosphere by crowdfunding a porno that will be shot 68 miles above the Earth's surface on a shuttle service like Virgin Galactic.
The "Sexploration" campaign hopes to raise $3.4 million in the next 30 days via Indiegogo.com . If the funding level is reached, Pornhub vice president Corey Price is shooting for a late 2016 release.
"If all goes well, the schedule will include an entire six months of training for space travel for our crew and performers before we’re comfortable with launching them into space," Price told The Huffington Post by email. "We need to know all participants are sufficiently prepared for the rigors of space-age coital activity (as well as filming in or past the stratosphere)."
Eva Lovia and Johnny Sins are the stars enlisted to make one small boink for porn and one giant money shot for mankind.
Lovia, 26, is particularly excited about the opportunity.
"The bragging rights alone are worth it," she told The Huffington Post. "We don't know if any astronauts have had sex in space, so we'd be the first to publicly admit it."
Surprisingly, this astronaughty has yet to get into the Mile High Club, much less do it 68 miles above Earth.
"I've never done it, mainly because the only place you can do it is in the bathroom -- and they're disgusting!" she said. "This will be a lot more sanitized, plus, we will have use of the whole plane, not just the bathroom."
Price said the plan is to have Sins and Lovia go aboard a shuttle with a six-person film crew.
"The production of the video will begin when the spaceship takes flight. Filming will commence upon takeoff and as the ship climbs, so too will the lovemaking," he said. "As soon as the ship reaches its maximum altitude there will be weightlessness for at least a few minutes. Our actors will be having sex and climaxing within that time frame –- ideally, of course."
Besides raising funds, there are other kinks to be worked out before the space porn can be made, including dealing with any health risks in advance and retrofitting the camera equipment for the potential atmospheric changes.
"Thankfully, we have a very experienced production crew and directorial team to help make the money shot happen in a way that looks dynamic and revolutionary for viewers," Price said.
Raising $3.4 million is a challenge for any crowdfunding campaign, much less one that involves explicit sexual activity.
Then there is the nagging problem of whether private space travel companies like Virgin Galactic or SpaceX would agree to allow their shuttles to be used in the first place, much less be willing to clean up the mess afterwards.
Neither Virgin Galactic nor Space X have responded to press inquiries, but Pornhub press rep Mike Williams insists the company is currently in talks with a number of private space travel companies.
"Because of the nature of our endeavor, we aren’t really able to disclose the details of those talks just yet for fear that that would risk unnecessary fallout from the aforementioned parties."
If the campaign succeeds and the first porn gets shot in space, the challenges are just beginning for Lovia and Sins, according to experts who've studied the particulars of getting it on in outer space.
"Sex is very difficult in zero gravity, apparently, because you have no traction and you keep bumping against the walls," biologist Athena Andreadis of the University of Massachusetts Medical School told SPACE.com in 2011. "Think about it: you have no friction, you have no resistance."
Lovia is thinking about other aspects of the endeavor including an unprintable quote about how she's looking forward to dealing with a floating money shot.
She also is thinking about what to do for an encore should this (e)mission succeed.
"I'm thinking about deep sea exploration," she said.

There have long been rumors and reports that NASA astronauts have really had sex in space, but they've largely been debunked — here's Packing For Mars author Mary Roach debunking one of them. And according to experts, actual zero-gravity sex would be unpleasant — objects thrusting against each other would have a tendency to fly apart, plus there'd be a lot of sweat. Of course, there's a lengthy and somewhat loony zero-G sex scene in Rick Moody's Four Fingers of Death , between two male astronauts, which has to be read to be believed.
In any case, the fantasy is usually (but not always) better than the reality. Here, in no particular order, are a dozen zero-G sex clips:

Does it count as sex in space if it's just a strip tease/masturbation? If it's Barbarella, it does. We're still kind of sad we don't get to see Rose McGowan's take on this role.
This is one of the few porn movies ever to be nominated for a Nebula Award . It's also the first porn movie ever to be actually filmed in zero-G. According to Space.com:
The scene was filmed by flying an airplane to an altitude of 11,000 feet. The plane, containing performers Sylvia Saint and Nick Lang, then went into a steep dive, creating the momentary illusion of weightlessness.
Insiders described the filming process as particularly messy from a technical and logistical standpoint.
Budgeting constraints allowed Saint and Lang, who portray astronauts, only one shot at a perfect zero-G take, leaving the actors with only a narrow 20-second window of time in which to launch themselves toward one another and complete the scene.
Unfortunately, I couldn't even find the 20 seconds of genuine weightlessness. Most of the zero-G sex in the movie is obviously pathetically fake, like this:
From the makers of the Police Academy movies, which is pretty much all you need to know. The zero-G scene does feature Jennifer Tilly, although there's almost no nudity. Mostly notable for some of the most ridiculous wirework ever seen, which becomes the main joke after the characters' shirts start floating around and groping each other:

Somehow he finds time for a bit of weightless nookie while he's at it — this movie originally aired as part of the "Roger Corman Presents" series on Showtime, and it shows. Still, bonus points for using tight closeups and a bit of contortionism to create the impression of zero-G:
In the middle of coping with puzzles and deathtraps inside the horrifying cube, there's this bizarre scene where two characters get it on, and suddenly, their sex causes the axis of gravity to break and they spin around and around without any up or down:
Ah, Red Shoe Diaries. Possibly the third greatest show David Duchovny ever did. By the time the third season rolled around, they'd run through a lot of the more obvious story ideas — like a pool hustler who needs to have sex on a pool table in order to regain her focus, or Star Trek 's Tasha Yar as a cop who likes arresting hot men on trumped-up charges and then handcuffing them. But I think they're on a space shuttle, and some of the scenes are supposed to be in regular gravity, but then they're making out in zero-G after the shuttle separates from its booster. And it makes them think about swimming, or riding a horse, or talking about their feelings in front of a picture of our planet. I need David Duchovny to explain this to me.
There have been a lot of Draculas over the years — but only one of them has had flown a woman up to the ceiling and had microgravity sex. Suck it, Lugosi!

Lust in Space (2015) * 1/2 (out of 4) Susan (Jazy Berlin) is an upcoming astronaut who hopes to make the next space mission and when she finally gets her chance she has to deal with a couple spies. LUST IN SPACE is the latest softcore title that is making the rounds on Cinemax. It's on there under the title of NAKED IN SPACE, which is a lot more fitting since the majority of the 81 minute running time is just naked people doing simulated sex scenes. I must admit that I understand why these types of movies were so important back in the 80s since there wasn't the internet and teenage boys had to wait until their parents went to bed in order to catch one of these on a Friday night. With that said, I must admit that I'm a little surprised that so many of them are still made today. So, how is this one? It's pretty much what you'd expect from this type of movie. Very little plot. Very little acting. Just a whole lot of simulated sex scenes. As for Jazy Berlin, she's serviceable in the lead role, although you have to wonder why some of the supporting actresses got more scenes. She at least managed to keep you attention when she was on the screen. Should you watch LUST IN SPACE? If you're a fan of the genre or Berlin then you might want to check it out but there's really nothing here campy enough to make you have to watch it. The simulated sex scenes are what they are but I've got to think that most fans would rather watch the star in the real thing.
