Pornhub's parent company has settled a lawsuit brought by 50 women who said they were victims of a sex-trafficking operation.
The women said that Girls Do Porn, an adult content provider, coerced them into having sex on camera and lied about how the material would be shared.
The 50 women had sued Pornhub, alleging the firm knew of the allegations but continued a partnership anyway.
Terms of the settlement were not made public.
In a statement, Pornhub parent company MindGeek said it had zero tolerance over the posting of illegal content on its platforms.
"The Parties reached a mutual resolution to resolve the dispute and the terms are confidential ," Brian Holm, the lawyer who represented the women said in an emailed statement.
Girls Do Porn was a part of MindGeek's partner programmes until October 2019, when the US Department of Justice effectively shut the porn producer down by arresting and charging its senior staff with sex trafficking and other offences.
It had uploaded numerous explicit videos to Pornhub and other public websites. Pornhub removed these videos after charges against Girls Do Porn were filed by US authorities.
Girls Do Porn allegedly operated by advertising modelling jobs. Young women who applied were later told the work in fact involved making pornographic videos.
They were allegedly told that the job would be anonymous and that their videos would not be posted on the web, but were being made for DVDs of private collectors or far-flung markets. However, the videos were later distributed publicly via sites including Pornhub according to US Attorneys.
In the complaint for damages against Mindgeek it was alleged that victims had sent the company "complaints detailing the fraud and coercion they were subject to by Girls Do Porn" but the company had not ended the partnership. The first court case on behalf of victims was lodged in June 2016.
"MindGeek has zero tolerance for the posting of illegal content on its platforms, and has instituted a comprehensive, industry-leading trust and safety policy to identify and eradicate any illegal material from its community," MindGeek said in a statement.
"We are committed to remaining at the forefront of internet safety, and taking every measure to prevent bad actors from posting illegal content online."
The company also suspended user-uploaded content in December 2020 following a separate set of allegations involving child abuse and rape-related videos.
The original lawsuit against MindGeek was filed in December last year , on behalf of 40 women plaintiffs. The number of plaintiffs later rose to 50.
Women cited in the lawsuit were referred to by the pseudonym Jane Doe and a number. They were each seeking more than $1m (£739,000) in damages and had demanded a jury trial.
Several of those involved with Girls Do Porn have since been convicted, including Ruben Andre Garcia, who worked as a recruiter, producer, and actor for Girls Do Porn, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison in November .
"This defendant lured one victim after another with fake modelling ads, false promises and deceptive front companies, ultimately devolving to threats to coerce these women into making sex videos," said Acting US Attorney Randy Grossman in a statement issued at the time of his conviction.
The FBI is currently seeking to arrest former co-owner of Girls Do Porn, Michael James Pratt, who allegedly coerced young women into filming sexually explicit content for the site.
Earlier this month, the bureau increased its maximum reward for information leading to Mr Pratt's arrest to $50,000 (£36,450).
The FBI has said it believes his alleged victims number in the hundreds.

Pornhub reveals 2021’s most popular searches in America
Pornhub is lifting the lid on America’s X-rated viewing habits, revealing their website’s most popular searches for 2021.
The most popular search term across the United States was “hentai” — a type of Japanese anime.
On an equally bizarre end of the sexy spectrum, “The Suicide Squad” anti-hero Harley Quinn was the most-searched movie franchise or character.
Followed by Wonder Woman, “Star Wars,” Black Widow and Harry Potter.
Meanwhile, the most-searched porn star by Americans was Lana Rhoades who quit the industry earlier this year and says she now “regrets” making adult movies.
The adult site further revealed that Americans were the biggest porn consumers on the planet.
Brits made up the second-largest share of Pornhub users, while the Japanese placed in third.
The frisky French came in fourth, while Italians rounded out the top 5.

Some are far less chaste than you might expect from porn of yore, and definitely not safe for work.

If your idea of good porn involves a randy dandy macking on matrons of the local haberdashery, loosen your bow ties and unfasten your corsets. Things are about to get steamy in the drawing room.
For its new Remastered project (warning: link leads to NSFW images), adult streaming-video website Pornhub has, with the help of AI, restored and colorized a series of vintage erotic films, some going back more than 100 years, and posted them online.
"These films show us that human sexuality was alive and well in the early 1900s," Pornhub says.
It's a fascinating romp through erotic history that's by turns charming, funny, artful and eye-opening.
The collection of 20 films spans the late 19th century to the 1940s. Some of the earlier offerings are pretty chaste. For example, in The Undressing, from 1896, a Victorian woman dares to show her naked feet. In The Hairdresser, from 1905, a woman styles her tresses, topless, looking like a classical painting come to life.
But later films are far less restrained than one might expect of ye olde sexy times -- and definitely not safe for (most) work. As early as the 1920s, the films show voyeurism, bondage, spanking and cosplay. There are sex toys, same-sex interludes, threesomes, foursomes and more-somes.
Long before the sexual revolution, it turns out, porn stars in petticoats engaged in a lot of the familiar erotic endeavors you'd see in adult films film today. "People don't often consider the prevalence of erotic films back then, but they were quite the commodity," Pornhub says.

Still, the footage is unmistakably vintage, with jumpy cuts and very little narrative structure. These short films, mostly from France, get straight to business.
In The Horny Haberdashery, from 1921, a male customer is hardly in the door before he drops his neatly pressed trousers to join two female workers engaged in maneuvers that would greatly concern today's HR.
In Surprised by the Guard, from 1930, a French farm girl is doing laundry outside when a soldier suddenly saunters up through the trees. It's immediately clear he's interested in more than having his coat cleaned. So is the next soldier who shows up to, well, enlist.
Adult movies date back to the beginning of motion pictures, when porn films were mostly anonymously produced and known as "stags." The earliest surviving porn movie is believed to be 1896 French film Le Coucher de la Mariée . It stars Louise Willy doing a tame striptease for her new husband as he slyly peeks and giggles from behind a dressing divider. Pornhub includes that early film in its Remastered series, renaming it Bedtime for the Bride.
Almost all stag productions were silent and black and white, even as the film industry adopted sound and color.
"This stylistic device contributed to the films' explicit allure," explains New York's Museum of Sex , "suggesting the reality of the sex acts being performed, as well as the underground and illicit nature of the pornographic film industry itself."
Since standard deep-learning models are trained using safe-for-work images, PornHub turned its AI on its library of 100,000 adult videos and images for a lesson in detecting body parts that take top billing in erotic films. Once the AI had colorized the black-and-white films, the team increased image stabilization, reduced flicker and increased the speed of the film to 60 frames per second. They added audio tracks, like player piano music typical of silent movies, that crescendo in all the right places.
"We thought it was important to not only preserve but modernize these films," Pornhub said. The relics will likely be a turn-on to porn and history buffs alike.
In 1896 French film Le Coucher de la Mariée, which Pornhub renamed Bedtime for the Bride, the groom gets a striptease on his wedding night.
