Show your child how to create their own game so they can play Among Us with people they know, like friends from school or family members. To create your own game, select ‘Create Game’. Once the game has been set up you’ll be given an access code that you can share with friends you want to play with. Remind your child to never share the code with anyone they don’t know or on a public chat or forum. You should show your child how to leave a game in case they receive an upsetting message from another player or they just want to take a break from playing. To leave a game you just need to select the settings icon in the right hand corner of the screen and select ‘Leave Game’.
If your child is talking to other people on the app make sure to switch on ‘Censor Chat’. When this is on, the game scans the message before other players see it to make sure it doesn’t contain any inappropriate language or comments that someone might find upsetting. To check this is on, go to settings in the right hand corner of the screen and select ‘ Censor Chat: On’. The box should also go green when you do this
Let your child know they can talk to you

INNOCENT kids are being sent child abuse videos and sexual messages on a new online game that has taken the world by storm.
Among Us was only released two years ago but has quickly garnered millions of users – with fears that online predators are now using the platform to target unsuspecting youngsters.
And parents have been left horrified after realising the game’s chat function is being used by sickos to send explicit messages.
Mum Julie Gower revealed her 14-year-old daughter had been playing the game with friends when a new player joined their game.
But after chatting normally for a few minutes, the player sent a link to a sick video on the chat showing child sexual abuse.
Julie told The Sun Online: "The individual then started asking the girls what they thought of it.
"They immediately blocked him and my daughter came and told me.
"They did report him through the game and we made a Police report. Nothing could be done from a Police perspective. He was kicked from the game but I understand they can just create another profile and carry on."
But Julie's experience is terrifyingly not uncommon with warnings being shared widely online.
Just one player shared a warning online, writing: “Trigger warning, I was playing among us and these people were saying they want to rape my dead body. What the hell.”
The player, who uses a purple avatar, included screenshots of messages they had been sent that read: “U want p***y” and “I kill purple and get her dead p***y”.
Other messages revealed by horrified users include disturbing notes reading “I want to rip all of your organs out” and “wanna be my boy”.
The aim of the multiplayer online game, launched by tech company InnerSloth, is for groups of up to ten to work together to find out who the “imposter” working to ruin their quest is as they travel into space.
And the game, which was released in 2018, has seen a sharp rise in popularity.
In September last year alone, there were 41.9million downloads – up from 18.4million in August.
But this quick rise in downloads has seen parents caught off guard, unaware that their kids could be chatting to complete strangers on the Internet.
One mum in America shared a warning online, saying: “Someone very close to me was tricked into giving their phone number to a registered child predator on this game.
Among Us is one of the latest multiplayer games to take the online world by storm.
Developed by Inner Sloth, players have characters that take on one of two roles - a Crewmate or Imposter.
The goal of the Imposter is to covertly sabotage and kill the Crewmates before they are able to complete their tasks as they travel through space.
It is the Crewmates' job to figure out who the Imposter is and to eliminate them.
Players must chat with each other to figure out who could be the Imposter and to decide who to eliminate them.
Crewmates win if all Impostors are eliminated or all tasks are completed whereas Impostors win if there is an equal number of Impostors and Crewmates, or if a critical sabotage goes unresolved.
The game was released in June 2018.
“This child thought they were having a week’s worth of innocent conversations but this disgusting individual began prying personal information from this child until their parent checked their phone (like all parents should) and intervened with this disgusting human!
“No matter how ‘smart’ you think your kids are – talk to them about this!”
Another mum warned the creeps were “dime a dozen” on the game.
Sharing messages that showed one user asking “wanna be my boy”, she warned: “If you think it’s rare for them to become prey, you’re sadly mistaken.”
Others said predators would suggest other players start chatting on Discord, another messaging function, where they would then be able to send explicit messages or images.
Yet another warning has gone viral, with the worried mum saying: “When I saw it as a parent, it seemed very normal and safe. It is a game where little things follow other targets. They look cute like minions in a way. Doesn’t look aggressive or anything. The app doesn’t come across as a texting app, but it is.
“When the kids beat another player, a chat window opens up. At that point the other player starts texting you kid and invites them to discord which is a texting app. Once on that app, they gain your kids’ interest by talking about strategies within the game and they start the grooming process.
“My daughter told my other daughter ‘that’s weird, it could be a pedophile’.
“I went to the police about it. The police informed me that they have had many issues with this app. That is the perfect scenario for pedophiles because they go to the game to fish for targets. They then gain their trust privately.
“The police said that I was very lucky that we caught it on time. They explained that most parents find out when it is too late.”
Andy Burrows, NSPCC Head of Child Safety Online Policy said: “Games with chat functions like Among Us carry grooming risks because abusers can use them to make contact with kids and exploit their interest in the game.
“That is why tech firms have a responsibility to properly moderate inappropriate content and the Government must push ahead with a Duty of Care to ensure children’s safety is a legal requirement.
“We advise parents to check out our review of the game on Net Aware where our experts have explained the risks to kids and provide advice on how to stay safe.”
A spokesperson from InnerSloth said: "Among Us, which is rated for ages 10 and older, was built with safeguards. Being completely text based for chat, it also does not allow players to post phone numbers, images, videos, and links.
"There are filters already in place that try to eliminate any harmful or derogatory language. We prioritize a safe and enjoyable environment for our players. In the coming weeks, we are releasing additional safeguards into the game, including accounts for higher moderation and reporting abilities. We know we must continue to ensure safety and privacy, and we are committed to doing so - we continually release developer logs on our blog page for full transparency. We take all forms of verbal and physical harassment, discrimination, and illegal behavior seriously.
"There is no place for that type of behavior in our game. As with all forms of media and entertainment involving the internet, we recommend being alert and aware of standard online safety practices. We ask that parents and users report to us when they encounter such behavior in our game."

You Must Be 18 or Older to Enter is a game about porn. To be clear, it is not actually porn, a rather important differentiation. In a landmark obscenity case, the threshold test for pornography was famously articulated by Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart as “ I know it when I see it .” Unfortunately, it appears that the digital games distributor Valve has a harder time making the distinction between art and base titillation than a 50-year-old judge back in 1964.
According to one of the game’s developers, Valve’s distribution platform, Steam, recently removed You Must Be 18 or Older to Enter from its online store on the basis that it was porn (which, again, it is not). This is a conspicuously bad decision, and one that betrays a deep lack of nuance about art and entertainment in general — something that seems relevant to the largest digital distributor of PC games in the world. What entertainment is about is not what it is; horror games, for example, are typically games about murder, but they are not actually crimes (except in the case of Friday the 13th , which is a travesty ).
Dismissing a game with obvious artistic merit as porn is an especially poor precedent to set within a medium that has long struggled for artistic recognition. But if you’re anything like me, this will only make you want to play the game more. The good news is that you still can — and you should, because it’s great. Even better, it’s free!
Just in case there are any lingering questions about the salacious nature of You Must Be 18 or Older to Enter , it is useful to note that it is a) made partly out of ASCII art, and b) a horror game. You play as a kid who’s home alone in the 1990s and decides to log on to AOL and look at porn for the very first time before his parents return. It’s a painfully realistic experience in how scary, thrilling and confusing it is to the young mind of your protagonist.
Rather than axe-wielding murderers or otherworldly monsters, the jump scares in You Must Be 18 or Older to Enter revolve around the paranoia of getting caught by your parents in f lagrante delicto with the hottest pics a 14.4 baud modem can download. After all, what is getting attacked by a serial killer compared to having your mom walk in on you while you’re gazing slack-jawed at milfs? Survival, here, means avoiding the sort of embarrassment that at least feels like being stabbed by a thousand knives.
So can you get away with it or will you and your parents share a moment that none of you ever want to remember? There’s only one way to find out! If you’re playing it at work, do remember that this is a game about porn ( about !), and there will briefly be some sexy noises — and some even sexier question marks and plus signs. Rowr.
