A former vice-principal from B.C.'s Fraser Valley has been handed a lifetime teaching ban, months after he was convicted on child pornography charges.
Counts of possessing child pornography and making child pornography available were approved against Michael Larence Haire back in 2018, and he was found guilty and sentenced to spend 20 months behind bars earlier this year.
When authorities began investigating Haire four years ago, he was working at a middle school in Abbotsford. He resigned days after the charges were announced.
Since Haire's conviction, the B.C. Commissioner for Teacher Regulation has issued the former vice-principal a ban on teaching at any school, from kindergarten through Grade 12, either public or private, for the rest of his life.
In a consent resolution agreement published online Tuesday, commissioner Howard L. Kushner described Haire's conduct as "at the serious end of the spectrum," and said the vice-principal "failed to maintain the integrity of the teaching profession by violating laws that protect minors from sexual exploitation."
The document notes that after Haire's jail term is complete, he'll be on probation for three years. He will also remain on the National Sex Offender Information Registry for life.

BARTLETT, Ill. — A Bartlett man is charged with viewing pornographic images and videos of minors under 13 across multiple social media apps, Cook County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday.
Eric Lund, 49, faces one felony count of possession of child pornography videos and one felony count of child pornography images of victims under the age of 13 after authorities received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about explicit photos and videos of children found on an account linked to Lund.
A search warrant executed at a residence in the 700 block of Thornbury Court in Bartlett revealed more than 45 sexually explicit images and videos of young children from seized cell phones and electronic devices.
Authorities took Lund into custody on Oct. 11. Appearing in court a day later, a judge issued Lund a $20,000. According to deputies, Lund posted the required 10% of his bond.
There is no word on Lund’s next court appearance.

Nathan Larson, a white supremacist who ran for public office in Virginia on a campaign to legalize child porn, has died in custody, the U.S. Attorney's Office has confirmed to Newsweek .
The U.S. Attorney's Office confirmed Nathan Larson, 41, died while being held in prison on felony charges for soliciting child pornography and a string of other offenses.
Court documents indicating the criminal indictment against Larson had been dismissed were shared on Reddit earlier this week.
Lauren Horwood, a U.S. Attorney's Office public information officer for the Eastern District of California said Larson died last month.
In a statement sent to Newsweek , Horwood said: "Nathan Larson died on 9/18/22. An order of dismissal in his case was filed on 10/11/22. I don't have any details on his death."
