Setting Up PopUP ChatGPT:

Let’s move on to setting up the extension that allows us to call ChatGPT in a small popup window with a pre-filled prompt for grammar and vocabulary analysis.

(Special thanks to Flasya and Egor brndmgd for testing this extension.)

Install the extension [from here] and extract it to any location convenient for you.

Next, go to the Extensions tab → Manage Extensions (see illustration 8.1).

Figure 8.1 – Extensions list tab.

Next, you need to make sure that Developer Mode is enabled. This process varies depending on the browser, so I won’t go into detail—just find where Developer Mode is located in your browser and turn it on.

Figure 8.2 – Developer mode.

Next, you just need to load the unpacked extension.

Figure 8.3 – Loading the extension into the browser.

That’s it — the extension is now installed! Let’s move on to how to use it.

Pin PopUP ChatGPT to your list of extensions.

Click the extension with the left mouse button, and in the popup window that appears, you can explore its features — edit prompts, remove unnecessary elements, and more.

Information about prompts:

{sentence} – allows selecting the entire sentence even if you highlight only one word.

{selectedWord} – strictly selects exactly what the user highlighted (this option is recommended for use on anime sites or any others where there may be issues with the player).

Figure 8.5 – Extension menu.

After that, you can fully use the extension — try selecting a word and clicking the "⭐" icon. You’ll be redirected to ChatGPT, and the input field will automatically be filled with the word, sentence, and prompt.

You can also customize various display options and modify the prompt (see illustration 8.5).

Additionally, if you uncheck the “Show popup when text is selected” option to hide the popup, you’ll need to refresh the page!

Figure 8.6 – Demonstration of the extension’s operation.

The popup window appears when you select text, which means you don’t need to press Ctrl+C or copy the text manually — the extension does it for you.

Additionally, the three dots on the right allow you to limit the input to a word, sentence, or insert only the selected fragment into ChatGPT without going to the main menu.

Now let’s address an issue related to using ASBPlayer in some video players (for example, on YouTube, ASBPlayer and my extension work perfectly without any problems).

I’ll show you what you can try to do in such cases. Let’s take the 9anime website as an example. When you select text, the popup window doesn’t appear — so what can you do?

Figure 8.8 – No popup window and extension not working in some players.

First, you need to select any text on the page, but not inside the player, and send it to ChatGPT. The popup window will work there.

Figure 8.9 – Selecting text outside the player.

Now we need to select text inside ASBPlayer, right-click, and choose "Analyze word with ChatGPT."

Figure 8.10 – The "Analyze word with ChatGPT" function.

But now a new problem arises — the word gets selected, while the sentence is ignored or duplicated as the word. Unfortunately, this is because my extension, and others like it, do not work properly with certain players on some websites.

This section is intended to help you achieve functionality everywhere, even if with some inconveniences.

Figure 8.11 – The sentence copies the word.

To make it easier to work under these conditions, I recommend checking the box for "Explain selected text."

Now we can select entire sentences and receive a response based on them with a separate prompt.

Figure 8.12 – Copying the sentence and sending it to ChatGPT.

As a result, we get a response like this from the AI. You can experiment with the prompts and find what works best for you personally! (Don’t forget to click the “Save” button).

Next, another problem related to ASBPlayer (and occasionally others) — sometimes the text may be inserted incorrectly (too large a volume of lines).

Figure 8.14 – Incorrect text display in ChatGPT.

To fix this, select the inserted text (Ctrl+A) and delete it, then select the sentence again — the problem should go away (sometimes you may need to repeat this twice).

If the text doesn’t insert, you need to click on the ChatGPT input field and select the text again by clicking the "⭐" icon or right-clicking and choosing "Analyze word."

You can also switch between conversations — for example, create chats for different activities (reading, anime, YouTube videos, etc.) and switch between them. To do this, follow these steps:

Click the "⭐" to open ChatGPT, select all the inserted text (Ctrl+A) and delete it. Then switch to the chat window you want and select the desired text again (if it doesn’t insert, repeat the procedure described above — sometimes it takes several tries, but once it works, you won’t need to do it again).

This way, all future selections will be sent to the chat you last chose. For example, I moved my text to the "Anime" chat.

Figure 8.15 – Working in different chats.

Another way to link to the desired chat is to enter the chat URL manually. To do this, go to the desired website (ChatGPT, DeepSeek, or any other), open an existing conversation or start a new one, and copy its URL. For example, I copied the link from an existing chat.

8.16 - Create a new chat or enter an existing one.

Now in the extension settings (Ctrl+Shift+Space), select the service, paste the link to your chat, and click the Save button. From this point on, you’ll be permanently linked to that site until you change the link. If you delete it, everything will return to the default mode — meaning the most recently opened chat will open if the window is active.

8.17 - Paste the link into the extension settings.
