Even the left-wing PolitiFact admits that during President Trump’s moving tribute to the widow of Navy SEAL William Owens “ most Democrats are seated .”
Even the left-wing Snopes admits “It seems to be true that some Democrats began to take their seats and sit down while more Republicans remained standing and clapping.”
And yet, both left-wing outlets not only attack The Daily Wire for reporting events exactly as they happened, these phony fact-checkers go on to outright lie in their defense of Democrats — who did indeed remain seated during the height of the sustained applause, and tribute, to William and Carryn Owens.
It is right there, you know, on actual video …
The moment starts at 49:14. But it is at the 50:22 mark that you can clearly see large numbers of Democrats seated just as cheers ring out and the applause reaches an unforgettable crescendo.
Nevertheless, both PolitiFact and Snopes attack The Daily Wire for — wait for it! wait for it! — reporting on what happened in the exact same way both of these left-wing outlets do.
Here is what editor-in-chief Ben Shapiro wrote Tuesday night :
Democrats initially stood for the widow. But then they sat.
As his widow wept and mouthed to heaven, “I love you, baby,” Trump led a round of applause that lasted two minutes.
And House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) apparently sat there and didn’t cheer as the incredible moment progressed, along with Senator Bernie Sanders and others – see this video at approximately three minutes in, as the cameras pan the crowd. Look at the right hand side of this screenshot:

So here at The Daily Wire, we clearly stated that a large number of Democrats initially stood, then sat, and then, through most of the second round of applause, refused to stand and applaud. Democrats chose to truculently sit down to protest or resist or pout, or something.

What these dishonestfact-checkers are attempting to do is two-fold:
1) Although The Daily Wire described the event accurately, described the event in the exact same way both PolitiFact and Snopes did, they are attacking us as liars, because…
2) They want to protect Democrats from the very damaging spectacle of them remaining seated during a tribute to an American warrior and his widow.
No one tried to argue that Democrats never stood. That was not the point.
But the inconvenient fact remains that Democrats sat down and chose to remain stubbornly and heartlessly seated as this moving tribute began to build to its highest and most memorable point.
But by splitting hairs, these propagandists who disguise themselves as fact checkers, can pretend Democrats did nothing wrong, even though the whole world can look at the video and see that they are clearly being rude and spiteful, clearly sitting and not applauding for a standing Carryn Owens.
The Daily Wire, PolitiFact and Snopes ALL described the events in the exact same way; exactly as they happened.
But only PolitiFact and Snopes are lying about the Democrats doing nothing grotesque and un-American.

Founded in 2007 by the Tampa Bay Times , PolitiFact.com utilizes reporters and editors from the Times and affiliated media outlets to “fact-check statements by members of Congress, the White House, lobbyists, and interest groups.” They publish original statements and evaluations on the PolitiFact.com website and assign each a “Truth-O-Meter” rating. The ratings range from “True” for completely accurate statements to “Pants on Fire” (from the taunt “Liar, liar, pants on fire”) for false and ridiculous claims. In 2018, Politifact became affiliated with the Poynter Institute.
According to their about page , “In 2018, PolitiFact was acquired by the Poynter Institute , a nonprofit school for journalists. While PolitiFact relies on administrative support from the Poynter Institute , it is otherwise financially self-sustaining. PolitiFact receives support from online advertising and revenue generated through content partnerships and from grants.”
In review, Politifact has been called left-biased by some right-leaning sources . In fact, a conservative source called Politifact Bias is dedicated to pointing out Politifact’s biases. Politifact is also a signatory of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN), which outlines a code of principles for credible fact-checkers.
Politifact uses minimally loaded language in their articles and headlines such as this: Trump falsely claims NATO countries owe the United States money for defense spending. They source information from credible media and/or direct statements from experts in the field or politicians. Despite Democrats currently controlling all branches of government, fact-checks continue to favor the left.
Editorially, Politifact does not directly produce op-eds; however, many fact-checks attempt to rationalize statements rather than stating directly if the statement was said and if it is true. For example, they fact-checked this statement by Republican Ted Cruz: “You didn’t see Republicans when we had control of the Senate try to rig the game. You didn’t see us try to pack the court.” Politifact rated this claim false, and on many levels, it is false.
The Republicans denied Democratic appointee Merrick Garland’s confirmation in 2016 and rushed conservative Amy Coney Barrett through while still controlling the Senate. They clearly tried to rig the game. However, it is not true that they tried to pack the court in the way Democrats are currently proposing. The Democrats propose adding four more seats to give them a majority over the court. The Republicans did not do this. They packed the court in a much different way. The claim should be rated mostly false or half true.
In reviewing Politifact for over ten years now and using them as a primary fact-checking source for this website, we have seen this trend of rating Republicans more harshly on numerous occasions. This update moves Politifact to Left-Center Biased based on this reasoning.
Overall, we rate Politifact Left-Center Biased based on fact checks that tend to be more favorable for the left. We also rate them High for factual reporting and a credible fact-checker that is not without bias. (7/10/2016) Updated (D. Van Zandt (04/29/2022)
