PokéBonk Elemental Reactions: Apply the Status First, Then Hit With the Right Type

Chaozi

In PokéBonk, the free browser roguelite at pokebonk.com, the biggest damage spikes do not come from a single strong move. They come from reactions: hitting an enemy that already carries a status with a move of the right type. The multiplier stacks on top of the normal hit, so a two-move pairing can outdamage one upgraded move.

The eight reactions

From the mechanics guide on the PokéBonk fan wiki, game version 0.8.77:

  • Electrocuted — Wet + Electric, ×1.5. Arcs to up to 12 Wet enemies within 9 m, 60% paralysis.
  • Steam — Burned + Water, ×1.4. A cloud that confuses and roots nearby enemies.
  • Inferno — Burned + Grass or Flying, ×1.3. Spreads the burn within 7 m.
  • Wreckage — Frozen + Fighting, Rock or Steel, ×2.6. Shatters the ice; shards hit everything nearby.
  • Poison Gas — Poisoned + Fire, ×1.4 plus 10% per stack. Explodes and poisons neighbours.
  • Nightmare — Asleep + Ghost or Dark, ×1.7, on top of sleep's own ×1.8, and heals you slightly.
  • Psychic Meltdown — Paralyzed + Psychic, ×1.6. Leaves the target confused.
  • Dragon Rage — Charmed + Dragon, ×2. Pure damage.

Reading the list as pairs

Every reaction is "setter, then payoff". Water sets Wet, Fire sets Burned, Ice builds chill stacks into Frozen, Poison stacks Poisoned. A few setups chain neatly: a Wet target freezes from a single Ice hit, which then sets up Wreckage, the largest multiplier on the list.

Three practical pairings

  • Water + Electric: the easy one. Wet lasts 5 seconds, and Electrocuted spreads across a crowd.
  • Water + Ice + Rock: Wet makes freezing instant; Rock cashes in Wreckage.
  • Fire + Poison: Poison Gas grows with stacks, and poisoned enemies cannot heal meanwhile.

Since Season 2, reaction fusions such as Conductive Storm (Water + Electric) and Boiling Geyser (Fire + Water) trigger their reaction by themselves; recipes are in the fusions table. For type matchups, the wiki keeps a type chart.
