The star of this film, Jaime Pressly, has recently been commended for her acting ability. In early 2006 she received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress for her role in the TV comedy series "My Name is Earl." Also, in early October, 2006, she was guest host on NBC's Saturday Night Live. Ms. Pressly has the unique ability, by changing her facial expressions (using mostly her large blue eyes and mouth) to instantly transform her appearance from a beautiful seductress to a freaked out psycho. This film dates back to the beginning of Pressly's career. Throughout nearly the entire movie, Ms. Pressly is in full blown seductress mode and she plays this role extremely well. The plot, unfortunately, is fairly predictable. Violet is a pre-adolescent girl who lives in a California mansion with her sister Ivy and her mother, who is the housekeeper. The mansion is owned by Ivan Greer and his wife Katherine, who live there with their young daughter Joy, a close friend of Violet and Ivy. Violet's family is suddenly evicted from the home when Katherine Greer discovers that her husband is having an affair with Violet's mother. The story then jumps ahead 11 years, when Violet (Pressly), who is now a 20 year old woman, returns as a visitor to her former home and apparently intends to claim what she believes to be rightfully hers. Initially, Violet seems intent on becoming the female head of the household, but that goal shifts somewhat as the plot unfolds. One can anticipate that any film that has the word "seduction" in the title will have a heavy emphasis on sex and this film does not disappoint. In the process of achieving her goals, Violet seduces each of the two main male characters in the film. Violet (Ms. Pressly) appears in four sex scenes. There are two additional scenes where she performs without any partner, stripping for the camera and displaying her charms, one while taking a bath and the other in a swimming pool. Also, early in the film Violet's Mom, played by Athena Massey, is in one sex scene. The DVD has both "R" rated and "unrated" versions of the film and each version is available in both wide screen and full screen video. Audio is available in Dolby 5.1. There are no "extras" on the disk, except for a cast list and chapter menu. As might be expected, the "unrated" version of this film has the look and feel of soft core porn that is available on late night cable, but the sex scenes in this movie are far more erotic than the typical fare and the acting is well above average for this genre. Notwithstanding the predictable plot, this film is engaging and fun to watch. The sex is hot and Jaime Pressly looks fantastic. No body double appears to be used in any of her nude scenes. It is unusual to see an acclaimed mainstream actress performing in a relatively large number of sex scenes and showing extensive quantities of skin, as Ms. Pressly does throughout this film. If your interests run in this direction, or if you just want to see good soft core porn, I recommend this movie.

One of the multiple reasons why I was receptive to both purchasing and viewing Poison Ivy 3 The New Seduction stemmed from my sweetheart husband recently admitting some of the reasons why he found actress Jaime Pressly attractive. Naturally I was curious to watch a film featuring Pressly in order to help further my understanding on what captivates my husband relating to Jaime Pressly. Watching Jaime Pressly's character of Violet be a powerful factor in shaping the lives of those around her Joy Greer (Megan Edwards), Ivan Greer (Michael Des Barres), Michael (Greg Vaughan), Mrs. B (Susan Tyrell) definitely made for a rousing type of movie. Additionally, the character of Violet takes the element of danger to another level because her character showcases a person's physical beauty being shrewdly utilized as a weapon.

If you remember the girl from 'My Name Is Earl' and like her you can see her in a different way here and she gets a lot more screen time; she tries her best to suppress her accent but it does slip out a couple of time during the film; whether on purpose by accident or as part of the storyline (for duplicities sake) isn't certain- but if you enjoy her other work here's a film where she takes center stage.

THIS should have been "Poison Ivy II", not that other one. If you consider it such and ignore that other one, you'll do good. If a crack film team took the original and wanted to re-work it and modernize it, this would be the result. This one is drastically different from the first one in many ways, but it does have that 'young beauty tweaking evil manipulations on a family' that the original had (and Ivy II lacked). Like the first, we find ourselves wondering when, if ever, "Ivy" will "get hers". The brief B&D bit on Daddy is a nice touch too. Cudos as well for that fantastic "Pouty Lips" with fire-engine red lipstick look by Jaime Pressly. Buy the original, (with Drew Barrymore), this one, and keep them side-by-side on your movie shelf; ignore the "Poison Ivy II" edition.

Let's be honest here...Jamie Pressly is ridiculously hot and she spends this entire movie "au natural." I should say that is enough and end the review right now! Of course, the film's plot and the performances deserve some attention, so here it is: this is one of those films that is worth an hour and a half on a slow night. Nothing spectacular, but not bad. Sorry, though, I have to reiterate that Jamie Pressly is absolutely beautiful with an incredible young, nubile body in this movie. Now I'm done.
