The Denver Broncos (0-2) travel to Wisconsin in Week 3 for an afternoon showdown against the Green Bay Packer (2-0). Kickoff is set for 1:00 PM EST on September 22nd at Lambeau Field and the game will be broadcast on FOX.
Oddsmakers opened this game up with the Packers listed as 9-point home favorites. That line has come down by a full point after early betting, as Green Bay is currently available at -8. The Broncos are still searching for their first win of the season, as they lost a 16-14 heart-breaker at home against Chicago in Week 2 to drop to 0-2 overall. Denver appeared to be well on their way to victory after Emmanuel Sanders scored a go-ahead touchdown with less than 35 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. However, the Bears rallied and allowed kicker Eddy Pineiro to drill a 53 yard field goal with no time left on the clock for a miraculous win. QB Joe Flacco played fairly well despite the loss, going 35/50 for 292 yards and a touchdown. However, the Broncos struggled to run the ball yet again in Week 2, as Royce Freeman and Phillip Lindsay combined for just 90 rushing yards. Emmanuel Sanders led the way for the receiving corps, hauling in 11 catches for 98 yards and the last minute touchdown.
Denver was solid defensively against the Bears in Week 2, holding Mitchell Trubisky to just 120 passing yards and no touchdowns. However, the Broncos did allow David Montgomery to rush for 62 yards and a touchdown before the disappointing fourth quarter climax.
Green Bay stands alone at the top of the NFC North through the first two weeks of the season, winning their second straight divisional game to improve to 2-0 overall. The Packers beat Minnesota 21-16 at home last weekend after scoring 14 unanswered points in the first quarter. QB Aaron Rodgers played well, going 22/34 for 209 yards and two touchdowns. The star of the game offensively was clearly RB Aaron Jones, who rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown on a game-high 23 carries. WR Davante Adams also turned in a solid performance, catching seven passes for 106 yards despite failing to find the end zone for a second straight game.
The Packers defense was fantastic against the Vikings, holding the offense to two touchdowns and forcing several turnovers. However, they did allow RB Dalvin Cook to torch them for 154 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries.
Both the spread and the over/under for this game look incredibly efficient to me, so I’ll probably avoid this spot completely. I would have probably taken the Packers against the spread if they were available at something around -7 or so, but I don’t think there is quite enough value at -8. Having said that, I still am not enticed by the Broncos side of this game either, as taking 0-2 teams playing at Lambeau against a new and improved defense seems like a foolish idea as well. However, I think a case can be made for the UNDER on 42.5 – especially considering how well both of these teams have played on the defensive side of the ball through two games.

While I don’t hate the matchup for Rodgers and Co. at home here in Week 3, it seems as if both teams will likely try to establish the run before taking any shots down the field. Aaron Jones can chew up a lot of the clock in a hurry, especially since Green Bay will likely be playing with the lead. Of course, Davante Adamas is always a threat to score from anywhere on the field as well. However, I really don’t like how this game sets up for Denver, as they haven’t had any success running the football and Flacco seems perfectly content keeping his passes under 20 yards. This really looks like a slow, defensive battle that could easily end up having a 21-14 or 24-16 final scoreline. As such, I’m going to take a shot with the UNDER on 42.5.
