A photo of a young plus-size woman wearing a bikini has gone viral, People Magazine reported.
Stella Boonshoft posted the photo on The Body Love Blog , which she authors. Boonshoft posted the picture to help other people dealing with body image problems.
“My body must be a revolution,” she wrote on the blog. The photo’s caption reads: “Picture might be considered obscene because subject is not thin. And we all know that only skinny people can show their stomachs and celebrate themselves. I am not going to stand for that. This is my body, not yours. MINE.”
More than 80,000 people shared the photo from Tumblr, and 2.4 million viewed it on Facebook.
Brandon Stanton, creator of the Humans of New York project , which is a gallery of street photos, first took Boonshoft’s picture fully clothed. Later, he took the photo of her wearing nothing but the bikini.
Boonshoft, a student at New York University, admitted to People.com that she was initially mortified, but decided showing the picture was the right thing to do as she advocates for sizeism.
“I knew that thousands of people were looking at my body,” she wrote on the blog. “I knew thousands were judging me.”
Boonshoft also suffers from polycystic ovarian syndrome, a hormonal disorder characterized by excessive androgens like testosterone, which makes ovulating difficult. It affects one in 10 American women and can make getting pregnant difficult.
Weight gain is one side effect of the disorder.
On her blog, Boonshoft wrote that her doctor said “she is eating too little and not often enough,” and her blood pressure and cholesterol levels are within normal ranges.
“Healthy. Fat. Fabulous,” Boonshoft wrote.

Former UFC champion Ronda was 'clothed' only in body paint for her stunning magazine cover along with Ashely Graham and Hailey Clauson
In the Ultimate Fighting Championship Ronda Rousey is a ferocious fighter but the beast becomes a beauty when she steps outside the Octagon.
And the former undisputed champion has shown her softer side for the cover of Sports Illustrated with a body paint "swim suit."
As someone with knockout (literally) muscles, Ronda is not your typical model.
She undoubtedly works on her physique for function rather than form - but the blonde Judo expert looks absolutely stunning in the shoot.
The former Olympian posted on Instagram: "Such an honor to share the cover with @theashleygraham and @haileyclauson for @si_swimsuit's issue celebrating women of all body types."
On choosing Ronda Rousey's cover Sports Illustrated wrote: "Ronda Rousey is a cultural phenomenon. She is the perfect combination of beauty, brains, brawn and humility. She possesses a spirit bigger than the space around her, and it is both infectious and inspiring. She's a Phoenix, as fiery and beautiful as any mythical creature ever depicted."
Plus sized model Ashely Graham is another beauty who doesn't have the typical stick thin model figure.
The brunette looked gorgeous in the sea for her shoot and showed that real curves Really are beautiful.
Sports Illustrated wrote: "Ashley Graham is a sultry, feminine masterpiece. I dare you not to stare at her. Ashley commands your attention in her photographs. She owns her sexiness in a way that every woman should. Her confidence is contagious."
The third cover star is model Hailey Clauson, who despite her stunning figure posts countless pictures of junk food on her Instagram page!
Sports Illustrated wrote: "Hailey Clauson is the definition of a modern bombshell. Learn a little about her and you'll appreciate her beauty even more. Even as unsettling as her beauty can be, one minute in her company and you'll feel like you've known her for years."

Remember that time Ashley Graham told us that while she wasn't afraid to pose nude, she wouldn't show "nip and bush" ? Seems like our former SI Swimsuit cover model has changed her stance on being photographed naked, and we definitely don't mind.
In an extremely revealing shoot for V Magazine , Ashley poses completely nude and opens up even more about her struggles with body image and how she learned to love herself early on in life.
"I think I hit bottom around 18," Ashley told Tracee Ellis Ross for V Magazine . "I was disgusted with myself and told my mom I was coming home [from New York]. And she told me, 'No, you’re not, because you told me that [modeling] was what you wanted and I know you’re supposed to do this. It doesn’t matter what you think about your body, because your body is supposed to change somebody’s life.' To this day that sticks with me because I’m here today and I feel that it’s okay to have cellulite."
The body advocate, and "new queen" of the fashion industry went on to reveal that she has two role models, one of which is a member of our own SI Swimsuit family.
"Today, I have two role models," Ashley explained. "One of them is my mom. Just seeing how happy she has been going through [life] and how she’s handled every curve ball is like, 'That’s a woman who has integrity and dignity and has been kind and generous to people around her.' Business-wise, it’s Kathy Ireland . She’s OG. When she was younger and in Sports Illustrated she was like, 'I’m going to sell some socks and make a business.' Now she has a billion-dollar company. Kathy Ireland, if you’re out there, I’m still trying to be your best friend. You’re on my vision board."
