In a fashion industry that is obsessed with size, full-figured Brazilian model Fluvia Lacerda is showing the world that not only is bigger truly better, it's also marketable. 2011 has been proven to be an amazing year for Lacerda , and the plus size fashion industry as a whole. As mainstream fashion insiders argued the legitimacy of plus-sized fashion, Fluvia and her size 18 curves continue to break down the barriers of a thin-obsessed culture. Right now the Internet is buzzing about Fluvia's fashion spread with Vogue Curvy. I must say, it is one of the hottest fashion editorials that I have ever seen. She looks amazing, and it makes me proud to be a full-figured woman! Earlier this year Larceda , a native of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and resident of America's fashion capital, New York City became the first (and only) plus sized model to grace the pages of Playboy Brasil. In June, Full Figured Fashion Week celebrated those who have contributed to the plus size fashion industry and honored Fluvia as Commerical Print Model of the Year. "The fact that I won this award is a major deal and I'm very passionate about my work, mostly because I feel that I represent the body image of many women," says Lacerda. "I'm not only a healthy woman, but one who wears a size 18 and am confident about it." Since being featured on the cover of the 2007 Curves calendar, Fluvia has worked for an overabundance of well-known brands such as Torrid, Monif C. , Igigi , Fashion Bug, Kmart, Bilka, Takko Fashions, and Eliza Parker . She has been featured in magazines such as Glamour, Latina, Bust and Plus Model Magazine .
Full-figured fashion has made significant strides over the past few years, and continues to earn much deserved credit and praise for positive body imagery for women. But I can honestly say that we still have a long way to go. Luckily, we have women like Fluvia who are willing to fight the good fight and let women like me know that we are beautiful, and we deserve the same style choices as our smaller counterparts. I asked Fluvia how she feels about being an role model for plus size women and she said "I have an enormous passion for what I do. Being a plus size model to me means far more than just bringing a paycheck home. I love representing the women who live the same struggles as I do. This young girl has potencial to balloon, gain more.
Mayara Russi is a phenomenon. She's huge.
So I´m starting to see a trend of what the theme for the recent FWPS was, and its very interesting, but with no Mayara Russi.
It seems like the powers that be of the FWPS, wanted to set the spotlight on younger (mid to late 20´s) up and coming models with the common feature of none of them are smaller plus size models, infact the smallest of the 5 main promoted models featured by Blog Mulherao and the FWPS site, is a size 50 brazilian/EU size, and I´ll introduce these 5 longer down this post.
With the focus on younger, less known models, some of the more famous and often appearing models at the FWPS were not at the event this year, thos include Mayara Russi, Cleo Fernandes and Alessandra Linder, the only model I recognize is Babi Monteiro.
Anyway, back to the 5 feature models of the FWPS, they range from size 50 to 54, and from 102 kg/225 lbs to 130 kg/ 287 lbs.
Lets start with the biggest and end on the smallest.
Beatriz Rosa is 28 years old, stands at 176 cm/ 5´9, 130 kg/ 287 lbs and is a size 54
Then we have Thayane Garrao who is 25, 178 cm/ 5´10 and 125 kg/ 276 lbs and a size 50.

The next model is 32 year old Mariana Fabri who stands at 176 cm/ 5´9 and 118 kg/ 260 lbs and is a size 52
Then there is Lais Paggiaro at 26, 170 cm/ 5´7 (like Mayara) and 117 kg/ 258 lbs and a size 52
and finally Amanda Lemos who I posted about in her own thread earlier. she is 26 years old, 179 cm/ 5´10 and 102 kg/ 225 lbs and is a size 50

The Brazilian Plus-Size modelling subculture seems to suffer of the same plague than the mainstream-ized layers of the same industry in North America: not enough diversity in shape, size, weight range and color skin. 😕

Such underwhelming positive discrimination policy is vastly alarming, especially when we know that about sixty percent of the Brazilian population is actually of African ancestry, whom only about half of it being actually considered as metitzo.
Their modelling casting is far much representative of the generations-old colourstruck and race-biased issues which belies within their (still segregated) society than actually representative to its diverse both demographics & beauty.

Anyways Mayara looks so plump and almost kinda filled out so to speak, she even has a little double chin going from this angle. and her stomach and circumference looks really big.

I fantasize about her EATING this amount of calories daily approved by her Feeder Husband. Spectacular weight gains !!!
So these 2 pics are from an interesting article about women showing their strength and self-esteem by showing off their arms that they had considered "problem areas earlier" more or less and Mayara is one of those women they talked to about the theme, but I also have my own comments on what she said because I think some of it might have been lost in "google translation"
Anyway this photo is great the way it shows of Mayara big fat, but also pretty strong arm, but we also see some lumps of backfat and in the bottom of the photo we almost get a tease at her big belly.
Man she looks like she´s ready to fight somebody in a MMA cage.
Even when she gets a little thin, model Mayara Russi says the arm has always been more obvious. "People said it was a 'polenta knocking arm', a 'arm'. I've heard that all my life."
So people gave her grief or maybe even made fun of her arms, but she´s turning a negative into a positive which is cool and a great mentality.
Today, she sees that the times she did Photoshop in the photos or did not wear tank top by shame were a waste of time. This image reconstruction started to happen a year and a half ago. She confesses that she thinks she is too big, but is no longer hot: "I will not stop wearing a tank top for aesthetic reasons."
