Full lips sans needles? Yes, please.
PSA: Lip plumpers have gotten a whole-ass makeover in recent years. Yup, those lip glosses of your youth that burned the hell out of your skin have officially been upgraded to lightweight, hydrating formulas that boost your lips with gentle ingredients. Old-school lip plumpers used low-grade irritants (i.e., mint, cinnamon, etc.) to give your lips a plumper look. And while those are totally effective and worth a try, you can also opt for a gentle, irritant-free formula—aka ones that use plumping humectants like hyaluronic acid to draw in moisture and give you that plumping effect.
And the best part? There are so many lip plumpers on the market rn that you can get super specific when it comes to formula. So whether you're looking for a pigmented gloss, a creamy lip balm , or a hydrating lip mask , keep scrolling for the best products and everything you need to know about 'em, courtesy of some of my go-to dermatologists—hi, Dr. Mona Gohara , MD, Dr. Rachel Maiman , MD, and Dr. Aleta Simmons , MD.
Butttttt, if you just want the top picks rn, and don't wanna read through all the info, here's a bb list:
Now, here's the fun stuff: the 15 best lip plumpers for temporarily bigger and fuller lips and keep scrolling for Lip Plumper 101 , brought to you by a few derms and yours truly.
This TikTok viral beauty product reviewed and tested by Mikayla Nogueira (my queen <3) has blown up over the past year, and for good reason. The peppermint and ginger extract give you allll that plumpin' goodness, but just be warned: It *will* indeed irritate your skin and lips briefly, especially if you are sensitive.
THE REVIEW: "Lemme be real with you, I saw this product on TikTok and I wanted to try it. It buuuuurns! Not like an unpleasant 'get this thing off right now' burn, but it does burn which then plumps the lips...but I will say, it definitely does what it needs to do. I [have] small lips, and this plumped them right up IN A NATURAL WAY."
Allow me to let you in on a little secret: This bb is BACK and is selling out FAST (!!) Like, as in real fast, your girl just added three to her cart (RIP wallet). Not only does this lip oil give your lips the most incredible plump , but because it's an oil, it also keeps them hydrated throughout the day. Sprint to the checkout, and thank me later.
THE REVIEW: "This lip oil aka [the] HOLY GRAIL has exceeded all my expectations!!!! The most luxurious application of all time. Best applicator for the most phenomenal lip oil out there! It’s truly worth every penny."
With a name like this, how can you pass this lip plumper up?! Although lip plumpers won't work the same way or last as long as lip filler, this Lawless plumper gloss includes shea butter and rosehip oil that'll smooth and hydrate those lips, while the glycerin and other ingredients add a short-term plumping effect. The best part? The wand will hug your lips for the most precise application ever.
THE REVIEW: "I’ve been so happy ever since I received this filler to try out. My upper lip isn’t very prominent and so I have been looking for a lip enhancer for a long time now. This one fits the bill just perfectly and I have been loving how my lips feel instantly plump and hydrated yet luscious. Love love this product and totally recommend! "
I get it: Plumping glosses are notorious for leaving your lips heavy and sticky, but this hydrating oil is really the exception. Formulated with argan and jojoba seed oils and vitamin E , this bb will hydrate the heck outta your lips while giving them the most subtle plump.
THE REVIEW: "I adore the Jouer lip oil. No scent, IMO, a fair amount of product, and the hydration lasts me for [most] of the day. I struggle with dry and chapped lips, so this has been so great! Plus I love the gloss and not the tacky look and feel."
Made by the OG beauty guru herself, Michelle Phan, this tinted luminizer will give you the prettiest sheer color ever. Swipe on this creamy tinted lip balm and the formula's hyaluronic acid and vitamin E will hydrate, smooth, and subtly plump up your lips . The pigment is totally unique to you, BTW—it will adapt to your lip tone upon application.
THE REVIEW: "By far my favorite must-have product. I've gone through five of these in the past year. I've dreamt of a lip product that you can use daily that nourishes and hugs your lips with a subtle tint. It's like a lip mask for the daytime. On its own, it gives your lips a beautiful, hydrated, healthy glow but it's perfect as a base to any lipstick or liquid lipstick. " —Michelle Phan
Ahhh, the Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb. I have to say, this is my all-time favorite lip gloss on the market, and nothing has yet to change my mind. Though it will give you a subtle tingle, it's very gentle thanks to the hydrating shea butter and vitamin E. I swear, the colors look incredible on every skin tone.
THE REVIEW: "My favorite lip luminizer! It plumps and it doesn’t turn your lips darker like [other brands]. It’s such a pretty color and it’s very hydrating, not sticky. It also doesn’t burn like others I have tried before. "
Since wearing masks became the norm, I have chosen to keep my lip color on the subtle side on an everyday basis. This sheer pink hue wears comfortably without feeling sticky or greasy. The formula is also pH reactive—meaning it'll subtly change colors after you swipe it on to transform into a custom shade.
THE REVIEW: "When I tell you that this is one of the BEST things that EVER happened to me...it is easy to use, not messy at all, and does the job well. The packaging is so cute and it’s a staple in my morning & night routine. I am not a plumper fan, but I tried it and I am so glad I did. The color is gorgeous and I don’t feel that burning, tingling sensation."
PSA (!!) Before I even begin, I must warn you that this coveted lip plumper indeed will tingle your lips. But trust, it trulyyyy will plump your lips . If you're cool with a little tingle, this here is your bb. And if you're really cool with the tingle and want even more volume, opt for the Lip Injection Maximum Plump Extra Strength Lip Plumper . But be warned, my lips and the surrounding skin were red for about an hour.
THE REVIEW: "Love it! Gives your lips a nice red plump, although it does burn/tingle a little bit, and if you get some on your skin it turns very red, but besides that it is amazing!!"
If you lean towards beauty products for sensitive skin because your face is irritated when applying literally anything (cough, cough, me), try this gentle two-step system. Each tube contains a blend of five different types of hyaluronic acid—a naturally occurring molecule that has the ability to hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water—to give your lips a plumper, fuller, and hydrated finish that will never irritate your skin.
THE REVIEW: "I have been using this religiously for a few years now. I know it’s expensive for the amount of product received, but I keep coming back to it after trying countless other lip hydrating and plumping products. Other plumping products dry out my lips and feel as sticky as flypaper. This one is the most hydrating and flattering of them all. It even gives the lips a healthy glow, with no need for tinted lip gloss. Buy it!"
Not only does this sweet-smelling gloss (which comes in six high-shine and two shimmer-spiked shades) give a plumping effect right away, but after four weeks of continued use, you may start to see smoother lips all day long , thanks to its collagen and marine-based formula.
THE REVIEW: "I'm obsessed with it! It hydrates my lips so well, the formula isn't too sticky, and it lasts forever. Paired it with the Sugar Scrub and it saved my lips from the harsh winter!"
You get a solid dose of color when you smooth this gloss over your lips, but you also get some gentle—and effective!—plumping action, courtesy of the formula's hyaluronic acid and peptides. It's super hydrating and lightweight, btw, so no need to worry about that sticky, heavy texture that comes with most lip glosses (ty, evening primrose oil).
THE REVIEW: "This is a life changer for me. I will never buy another lip oil besides this bad boy here. It’s so comforting, so hydrating, and effective!"
Don't feel like dropping a ton of cash on your lip plumper? This drugstore option from Milani is under $10, but still gets the job done with volumizing hyaluronic acid, hydrating oils ('sup, castor oil ), and a lightweight texture. Bonus: It comes in seven pinky-nude shades , all of which have a subtle shimmer.
THE REVIEW: "I felt the tingling but the color applied after my lipstick gave me the perfect pout!! Felt kissable all day."
This ultra-shiny gloss—which comes in five shades ranging from clear to a brown mauve—not only uses plumping plant extracts and hyaluronic acid to give you immediate fullness, but it is also packed with vitamins to give you ultra-hydrated lips.
THE REVIEW: "My first time using a lip plumper and I love it. It is very hydrating and adds a little plumpness to my lips. I am obsessed with the scent too, smells like vanilla butter. 10/10 ✨"
Not every lip plumper has to be a splurge. Heck, this one by NYX gives you hella shine and plump and is only seven bucks. The formula is ultra-sheer, so if you like a more natural look apply it alone, but if you want a little something extra, layer it on top of a lipstick.
THE REVIEW: "I’ve tried a few lip plumbers before and this is the only one that doesn’t burn or irritate my skin. I love love love it!"
Trying to get bigger lips but don't want to blow through your budget? This pick from Black Radiance comes in at a v reasonable $6, but the hyaluronic acid-based formula is just as effective as its pricier counterparts . There are six ultra-flattering hues too, including Sweet N' Spicy (pictured here), which leaves your lips with a clear, shimmery finish.
THE REVIEW: "Love!! Hands down the best lip oil out there. I found it by accident one day at Walmart and I'm hooked. My lips are in better shape than ever before. It lasts for hours before you need to reapply. I would definitely buy again!"
"Lip plumpers are topically applied products that come in various forms and contain ingredients that temporarily induce swelling of the lips," says board-certified dermatologist Rachel Maiman. There will be a short-lived increase in volume and the appearance of fuller, more plump lips , she explains. Typically, results will last anywhere from 30 minutes to a maximum of three hours, depending on the product.
To get a little more science-y, the gentler ingredients used today are called "humectants"—AKA my faves: glycerin and hyaluronic acid. Humectants work by attracting and drawing water molecules to the skin's surface . As a result, the volume of the lips will increase due to the added hydration, Maiman explains.
Then there are the OG lip plumping ingredients (i.e., caffeine, niacin, cinnamon, menthol) that work via a "vasodilatory" effect, explains Maiman. Vasodilation means the dilation of blood vessels, so when these ingredients are applied topically, the blood flow to the lip tissue will temporarily increase. In turn, your lips will increase in volume, she explains. It's important to note that the ingredients that work via vasodilation are known to cause the "stinging" sensation.
No, lip plumper is not bad for your lips. In fact, both board-certified dermatologists Rachel Maiman and Mona Gohara agree that, generally speaking, they are totally fine. " The levels of the ingredients in question are low and are considered safe when used at these concentrations ," says Maiman.
Though many products today use ingredients such as humectants (s/o glycerin and hyaluronic acid!) for a gentler and hydrating approach, some still contain ingredients that cause vasodilation, which, as mentioned above, are known to "sting" the lips more. Though, as Maiman says, because the ingredient concentration is so low, they are still safe to use on the lips. Whichever formulation of product you go for truly just depends on your personal preference and the sensitivity of your skin.
If you're one of those people out there with sensitive skin (🙋🙋🙋) and want to be extraaa cautious before applying plumper to your lips, Maiman suggests doing a patch test on your inner wrist.
I hate to say it, but unfortunately, lip plumpers will not permanently give you fuller lips. The reality is that "anything topically applied to the lips will probably only cause a slight improvement and nothing drastic," says Maiman. There is some misinformation spread, so be wary of products that claim to improve lip volume over time because the reality is, "evidence is quite limited, and most of what exists are based on short-term manufacturer-sponsored studies," she says.
These products are a great option for those who are not ready to take the plunge with lip fillers, or even those with lip fillers who want an extra boost, explains Gohara. However, if you're noticing changes that can be attributed to aging (such as fine lines and wrinkles!), or want your lips to have increased volume for much longer than a few hours, lip filler may be a more semi-permanent solution, as board-certified dermatologist, Aleta Simmons has explained to Cosmo . Though, before going that route, you should learn about all the potential risks and complications, so peep our lip injection guide for everything you need to know.

I'm a big fan of prairie dogs. Besides their cuteness (obvious here), they provide an important food source for many different species of wildlife. This one has been getting ready for winter (also obvious here) by gorging on the abundant nearby grasses and other goodies.
My wife and I (and of course, Ziggy) spent a very enjoyable week in and around Custer State Park in South Dakota. While we didn't see any elk, there were plenty of other critters to point the camera at. More to follow!
Thanks so much to everyone who takes the time to view, like or comment on my photos!

I think I've been in a bit of a rut recently, photographically speaking... far too many photos taken in the bathroom, sans shirt. Though that is the only room with any decent lighting, plus light, solid-colored walls...
Perhaps it's time for me to try to come up with some different ideas - always willing to entertain suggestions to that end...

Right firstly no photo shopping has taken place on either image in this photo.
The other day my wife called me in to watch an advert on TV so I tottered in to see a woman on the screen with an amazing waist the image then went on to show the cause of said waistline.
Basically it was an extreme body shaper. My wife suggested I should give it a go! What was she trying to say I thought!!!!
