One thing's for sure this book gave you a look at addiction from a different perspective. You started out seeing why this young woman needed an escape. It kind of gives you a different understanding of it being more than a 'disease'. It also showed you life teaches you some hard lessons. KNOW when to ask for help, when you need help and when to get help. But more than that notice the signs. Ask questions and as intrusive and irritating you can be as a parent. Aside from that the book was written in a way that painted a picture you wanted to see complete. You learned the complexity and struggles of the main character is slivers but you understand. It touched on subjects not many of us want to broach. But its real life for some. What I first thought was a predictable read turn out to be a life lesson through this story. There are multiple take-always from this read friendship, family, coping with problems and accountability for actions you take. The end of the book was filled with twist that changed my predictable thinking. I highly recommend this for understanding and awareness that comes from addictions that may not only be heroin or drugs. Anxiously waiting for my book club meeting to discuss.
