Kymberly Herrin, a former Playboy playmate and actress who starred in the original Ghostbusters and Romancing the Stone , among others, died on Oct. 28 at age 65.
Herrin died peacefully in Santa Barbara, Calif., where she was a lifelong resident, according to an obituary published in Santa Barbara News-Press . Her niece, Theresa Ramirez , also confirmed her death on social media.
The obituary does not list a cause of death, but has called on mourners to make a donation in Herrin's memory to the American Cancer Society to support prevention research and treatment of breast cancer.
The former model appeared on the cover of dozens of magazines throughout her career, including the March 1981 issue of Playboy , where she was crowned Playmate of the Month. She also modeled for a series of fitness and swimwear ads for FIT magazine.
Herrin starred in a handful of films, including the original 1984 Ghostbusters starring Bill Murray , Dan Aykroyd , Ernie Hudson, Harold Ramis, and Sigourney Weaver , playing the Dream Ghost , a seductive apparition that Aykroyd's character Ray Stantz encounters during a particularly raunchy sequence. Harrin also starred in Romancing the Stone, Beverly Hills Cop II (as a Playboy playmate), and Road House.
Herrin is survived by her mother Billie Dodson, brother Mark Herrin, nieces Theresa Ramirez and Stephanie Ross, and nephews Brandon Herrin and Trevor Triegor.

Kymberly Herrin, a Playboy Playmate who appeared in "Ghostbusters" and ZZ Top’s "Legs" music video, has died. She was 65.
Her niece, Theresa Ramirez, confirmed the star’s passing to Fox News Digital Wednesday. Ramirez previously took to Facebook and shared a photo of her aunt with her aunt's two late sisters.
"They are all together now," Ramirez captioned the post. "Aunt Kymberly Herrin. I love you."
Herrin died peacefully Oct. 28 in Santa Barbara, California , according to an obituary in the Santa Barbara News-Press. While a cause of death wasn’t revealed, the family asked for donations to be made in Herrin’s memory to the American Cancer Society "to further research of the prevention and treatment of cancer."

"I definitely miss her," Ramirez told Fox News Digital. "She was taking care of my grandmother before she passed and now I'm doing it. I have some big shoes to fill.
"A lot of people just see all the outward stuff. But she was probably the kindest, most caring person that I knew. She would never speak ill of anybody. She was a peacekeeper."

Herrin was born in Lompoc, California, Oct. 2, 1956. She was a lifelong Santa Barbara resident who went on to grace the cover of over a dozen magazines. Herrin served as Playmate of the Month for Playboy’s March 1981 issue. She was featured on the cover of Playboy’s September 1982 and September 1983 issues. Herrin also appeared in several special editions of Hugh Hefner's magazine.

In addition to modeling, Herrin made her mark in Hollywood. She appeared in several notable films, including 1984’s "Romancing the Stone" with Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner and Danny DeVito. That same year, she appeared in "Ghostbusters," captivating viewers as a seductive ghost who shares a sensual scene with Dan Aykroyd’s character Ray Stantz.
"She loved her career. She loved being in the spotlight, but she was so down-to-earth. She was super humble," Ramirez said. "She really enjoyed working as a model. She enjoyed the lifestyle. And she got to travel, which was her dream. And she met very interesting, famous people along the way."
In 2021, Aykroyd recalled working with Herrin.
"I remember the woman who played that," the 70-year-old told Polygon. "Her name was Kym Herrin, and she was a Playboy Playmate . She played the ghost. Like, I wish they’d let that scene go a little longer.
"Sexual encounters with spirits are very, very common," he insisted. "And there are some people that I know that have a house that has a presence, and they don’t try to purge it. They say, 'You know what, I’m going to stay with it, and I’ll live with it.'"
Fittingly, Herrin played a Playmate in the 1987 film "Beverly Hills Cop II," which starred Eddie Murphy.
Herrin is also remembered as one of the statuesque blondes who flaunted their stems in the music video for ZZ Top’s hit song "Legs." The track became a summer favorite in 1984.
"I have tons of stories that I was told and photos of just how she would just carry me everywhere," Ramirez told Fox News Digital. "But as I was growing up and I got older, and she started to get into Playboy and do modeling and that kind of stuff, I remember one time I went to school and she picked me up from school.
"I was in elementary school, and she came pulling up in her little black VW Beetle. She had a black Beetle with the top down, and all of the boys stopped, and they were just looking at me, and they all knew who she was. I was so embarrassed that they all knew who she was. I just thought only my friends knew who she was."
According to her obituary, Herrin pursued her passion for sailing . She lived aboard and sailed on a 75-foot yacht for several years. She is survived by her mother, her brother, two nieces, two nephews and "numerous" grandnieces and grandnephews.

Former Playboy Playmate Kymberly Herrin, who appeared in a sex scene in the iconic movie Ghostbusters, has reportedly been found dead at the age of 65
Kymberly Herrin, the former Playboy Playmate who appeared in Ghostbusters , has died at the age of 65.
The model passed away peacefully on October 28 in Santa Barbara, California, where she had lived up until her death, according to the Santa Barbara News-Press.
Kymberly is most famous for her role in the 1984 film Ghostbusters which saw her appear as a ghost in an infamous sex scene with Dan Aykroyd's character Ray Stantz .
In the scene, the ghost was seen hovering above Ray's bed before undoing his belt buckle.
Dan later joked about filming with Kymberly and said he wished "they'd let that scene go a little longer".
"Sexual encounters with spirits are very, very common," Dan added in an interview with Polygon .
Fans have taken to Twitter to pay tribute to Kymberly, with one person writing: "Gone, but not forgotten. She will always be everyone’s Dream Ghost."
Another wrote: "Very sad news. Hope she is having sweet dreams."
Throughout her career, Kymberly graced the cover of more than a dozen magazines, both local to Santa Barbara and international. She became Playboy magazine's Playmate of the Month for its March 1981 issue.
As well as starring in Ghostbusters, she also appeared in Romancing the Stone as Angelina.
Kymberly is survived by her mother Billie Dodson, her brother Mark Herrin, nieces Theresa Ramirez and Stephanie Ross, nephews Brandon Herrin & Trevor Triegor, along with numerous grandnieces and grandnephews.
In Kymberly's obituary, shared by the Santa Barbara News-Press, fans have been asked to make a donation to charity in her memory.
"If you are so moved, please make a donation in Kym’s memory to the American Cancer Society to further the research of the prevention and treatment of breast cancer," the request read.
The tribute also said the actress "loved to travel and sail", having lived aboard and sailed on a 75-foot yacht for several years.
She sailed along the California Coast, through the Panama Canal, in the Sea of Cortez, in Baja and into the Caribbean.

Herrin passed away peacefully in her home in Santa Barbara, California, Oct. 28, according to an obituary in the Santa Barbara News-Press .
Herrin’s niece, Theresa Ramirez, shared a photo on Facebook of her aunt with her two late sisters and the caption: “They are all together now. Aunt Kymberly Herrin. I love you.”
Herrin was a model and actress, appearing on several magazine covers as well as in movies, including her memorable part as the Dream Ghost in 1984’s “Ghostbusters” — notably in an infamous, sensual scene with Dan Aykroyd’s character Ray Stantz.
Herrin — who also appeared in that year’s “Romancing the Stone,” which starred Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner and Danny DeVito — is additionally remembered as one of a handful of models who strut their stuff in the music video for ZZ Top’s hit song “Legs.”
The model was featured on the cover of Playboy’s September 1982 and September 1983 issues. Herrin served as Playmate of the Month for Playboy’s March 1981 edition. She also played a Playmate in the 1987 film “Beverly Hills Cop II.”
