It is really hard to get a straight answer about laws because in my experience even the police are lacking in the knowledge of their own legal system. So my advice is to just say no, but if you find yourself in the hands of the law and they tell you that you can pay them some cash and let you go, then by all means pay it if you can and negotiate a smaller amount if you can't. He assured me that I would be safe, and strangely, I still trusted him. We sat in the waiting room and out came a thin man with a flashy watch and a pinstripe suit. So after I dropped him off, I called my dad from my car and asked for advice. The following day, I texted Micha letting him know that I was headed out of town for a while. I lied and told him I was thinking about moving back to Mexico and might be difficult to contact. Then, I reluctantly deleted his numbers from my phone, and eventually changed my own.
