Sur serves a variety of charcoal-grilled meats along with plenty of seafood, pasta, salads and starters. You will love the warm, friendly atmosphere along with the perfectly prepared meals. The grilled charcoal octopus is a popular starter, served with a touch of cayenne pepper to give it a spicy kick. SUR was a bucket list item for my wife. We got there early yes, the one in West Hollywood and had a few drinks. My wife was so crazy happy to be there and then boom! I had to tell her reservations were for SUR in Mexico. You would have thought I just took her new puppy away. She was devastated. As we stood at the bar discussing how this happen the Hostess must have seen the tears forming. Without our prompting she walked up and said I'll make this happen for you. The ambience,service and food is always great! I would say it is consistently a good place to dine at! Made a reservation, got seated and it took 30mins to even get drinks then it took another 30mins to place a order to be told that it would take a while because they are short staffed. The whole dinner experience was 2hrs in total. Made reservation for Pm. Checked in at pm to ensure everything was on track. Hostess was great. Agreed we would be back at PM. Table was ready. Sat down and ordered drinks. Told kitchen was a little backed up. So we were cool and ordered drinks and a few appetizers. Finally ordered meals around PM and then food was served at PM. Steaks were beyond rare. Tortellini was cold. Out of mash potatoes. Steaks were returned to kitchen and again came out rare. Sent back to kitchen for second time. Have no clue what was going on but extremely disappointing. One of worst experiences I have ever been a part of Everything was great except my husbands steak was very under cooked. More rubbery. The manager took the steak off the bill which was grateful for. The service and the ambiance were outstanding. Overall, a really great, fun evening! The second try our food was on point and delicious. Flavorful and yummy. The food and service were equally excellent. The grilled sweetbreads were extraordinary and the steak and lobster just incredible. Another great experience at Sur, highly recommend to try this venue when travelling to Playa. Food was great, but the service was very slow. From the time we were seared to when our appetizer was served it was 1. Then 15 minutes waiting for the check after our plates had been removed. Whole experience lasted over 3 hours. Good food, good atmosphere. Music is loud so not for business or having discussions. The first table that they had for us was street side, which we found odd because the reservation was for a birthday party. We were then moved to another table next to the bar, directly under a speaker. The seafood soup and marlin carpaccio were great, but one of the steaks was not prepared as ordered and the salads were very poor. The empanadas were good, too. Overall, it was good, but not great. Incredible service, outstanding presentation, enjoyable setting. This past visit in October was my second time there and both times they knocked it out of the park. For my birthday they hooked us up with a free desert and a free round of shots. One of my friends chose his meat from the cart and i was blown away at the quality and flavor. We're from chicago and frequent steakhouses and i honestly think this was the best steak i've ever had. Loved it!! Probably one of the best steakhouse in Playa Del Carmen. Sur Steakhouse knew there meat and the staff were very professional when it comes to service. This place is a must! Really enjoyed Sur, best restaurant we have been to in Playa and we travel there times per year. Great atmosphere and the service was amazing. The food was absolutely phenomenal. Froylan was an excellent server and cocktails were top notch. Great for celebrating a birthday or special occasion, had a lovely time. Fish was a touch bland but everything else including octopus carpaccio was excellent. Very good food, really love the outdoor dining option too. Service was outstanding, alittle too attentive and overly trying to please us it seemed, but we won't complain about a thing. Would return! Jorge was fabulous, we had a wonderful meal with our family. Great spot on 5th! Food and service was fantastic. Our waiter was extremely attentive and the food was perfectly presented and delicious. It is usually a highlight of our dinners in PDC. This trip service, quality and selection were seriously lacking. The servers were not attentive. The food did not come at the same time for the appetizers or main course. The grilled artichokes were not well cooked and hard. The steak was not cut well and was overly fatty. The fish was over cooked as well. In addition, they did not have our wine selection from the menu nor did they have the cowboy steak one of the usual best. In short, we are going to look for other steak restaurants in the future. El servicio de Oscar nuestro mesero fue magnifico, siempre atento, servicial y divertido. We chose Sur over other options due to strong reviews, but were disappointed with the experience overall. The continued delays caused great frustration with our group, and in the end spoiled our last evening in the Playa area. Would not recommend this restaurant to friends. Jorge was our amazing server this evening. We were celebrating a birthday and two wedding anniversaries, and the whole night everything was wonderful. The food, as always, was perfection. Attentive but not smothering service, table on the street but further from the hustle and bustle of the front, fun music from the live DJ. Every time we're in Playa we come to Sur, and I can see no reason to break that tradition! Thank you for helping us celebrate 2 anniversarys the other night! Excelente servicio como siempre.
