Play It Again, Dick is an American meta comedy streaming television series that was released on The CW's online platform, CW Seed, on September 16, 2014. It functions as a short spin-off series of the teen noir show Veronica Mars, which aired between 2004 and 2007; the show contains appearances by most of the original starring cast. The series follows a fictionalized version of Ryan Hansen as he attempts to convince his Veronica Mars cast-mates to participate in a spin-off centered around his character, Dick Casablancas. The series was created and executive produced by Rob Thomas, produced by Danielle Stokdyk and Ryan Hansen, written by Thomas and Bob Dearden, and directed by Viet Nguyen.

The idea for the web series originated with the digital division of Warner Bros. in response to the ongoing development of the film adaptation of Veronica Mars. Thomas was initially reluctant to participate, but he agreed to when the network offered to lighten his workload. The series was announced to the public in January 2014 and released in September of the same year. Most of the original cast of Veronica Mars returned for Play It Again, Dick. Upon release, the series received generally mixed reviews from television critics.

Ryan Hansen tries to get Kristen Bell and The CW execs Mark Pedowitz and Thom Sherman on board for a spinoff starring his Veronica Mars character, Dick Casablancas, as a private detective.
Rob Thomas, co-creator of Veronica Mars, is asked about his involvement in the spinoff. Ryan and Jason Dohring - who is really pumped about the new show - discuss ideas.
Enrico Colantoni tells Ryan he is down to do the show - in return for a small favor. Percy Daggs III also agrees to put in an appearance ... barely. Rose McGiver guest stars.
Francis Capra talks type-casting with Ryan, and Ryan talks type with Ken Marino. Meanwhile, a dancer named Gaston gets enthusiastic about the need to practice the major dance number.
When Jason Dohring isn't happy with his role in the show, Ryan quickly finds a replacement. Filming begins! So does the body count. Robert Buckley also guest stars.
As the spinoff unrolls with Dick on the case of a murder (and his stolen sunglasses), he is reunited with Madison Sinclair (Amanda Noret) and the ghost of his brother, Beaver (Kyle Gallner).
Dick calls Veronica for backup. An epic fight takes place between Dick and an Asian chef. Will Dick come out on top? Christopher B. Duncan and Daran Norris also guest star.
A surprising twist in the murder mystery takes place, and Veronica (Kristen Bell) is reunited with an old flame. Oh, and that major dance scene? It happens. Twice.

This was interesting. The episodes are only 7-8 minutes long, while they are entertaining because you are able to see some of your favorite characters it is supposed to be their "real life" selves and some of it is a little over the top. I bought it under the impression it was still some form of the Veronica Mars series and not realizing how short the episodes were. Honestly, we barely watched through these episodes so I don't think I would have sat through a 20 -30 minute episode anyway. If you're a huge Veronica Mars fan you will still get a kick out if it - we definitely laughed at many parts but there were equal amounts where we looked at each other like "what is this?"
I found this totally fun and worth every penny given how many times it literally made me laugh out loud! A must see for all marshmallows with a sense of humor and an appreciation for the lighter side of the actors. I love how many cast members took part in this campy spoof, especially those that took their characters to the extreme. I enjoyed seeing these wonderful people cut loose and have a little fun.
Intentionally over-the-top, and that's part of what I liked about it. It wasn't afraid to make fun of itself. But if you're looking for a true Veronica Mars feel, that you won't get.
Totally worth it. It was a laugh riot and so much fun to watch. If they did more episodes I would buy them too! I loved it!
So we were disappointed after Loving Veronica Mars 3 Early Seasons & the 2014 Film & the 2019, 8 part series ! We were lead to Believe that the, Play It Again Dick, was a Real Offshoot Series, it’s more like a How To Create a Series, no real stories just the Real Life Actors discussing a Detective for the TV Character Dick, kind of Lame ???
This was hilarious! I think those that don't like it are not understanding that it is a joke and all of the actors are playing heightened versions of themselves. Who knew that Dick Casablancas could dance!!! Worth the small change to buy and watch!
I loved Veronica Mars and have always wished there was more of it! This web series kind of scratches that itch but also doesn't. While we see the same beloved actors they are playing versions of themselves rather than the characters you might be missing. I lost interest in it a few episodes in but really enjoyed the first couple and thought it was a great concept. And wow Jason Dohring is looking SO RIPPED. I should probably give it another star just for that if I'm being honest with myself.
So much funny. The opening credits of "Private Dick" and the skype with Enrico Colantoni alone were worth the price. A must for any Veronica Mars fan.
