Highway Chaos: Two Hurt in Motorcycle Collision

A chaotic scene unfolded on State Route 101 south of Oakridge this afternoon after a motorcycle crash left both the rider and passenger injured. The incident occurred around 3:15 PM near the mile marker 47 overpass.

According to initial reports from the California Highway Patrol, a southbound motorcycle, carrying two riders, collided with the rear of a slowing SUV. The impact caused the motorcycle to veer off the roadway, crashing into the center median barrier.

Emergency responders arrived swiftly, finding both the 42-year-old male rider and his 39-year-old female passenger conscious but suffering significant injuries. The rider reportedly sustained moderate to severe leg injuries, while the passenger complained of back and neck pain. Both were transported to Mercy Medical Center via ambulance for treatment. Their current conditions are not yet known.

The driver of the SUV, a 55-year-old woman from the area, was uninjured. She remained at the scene to cooperate with investigators.

Highway Patrol officers closed the southbound lanes for approximately 45 minutes to clear the wreckage and conduct an initial investigation. The roadway has since reopened, though authorities urge drivers to expect residual delays.
