Veteran Singer Pilita Corrales Celebrates 60 Years in Showbiz with Special Concert

Legendary Filipino singer and actress Pilita Corrales, often referred to as 'Asia's Queen of Songs,' marked her 60th anniversary in the entertainment industry with a grand concert at the Manila Hotel last night. The event, titled 'Pilita Corrales: 60 Years of Timeless Music,' drew a full house of fans, fellow artists, and celebrities who came to celebrate her enduring legacy.

Now 82, Corrales delivered a powerhouse performance, singing her greatest hits, including 'Kapantay ay Langit,' 'A Million Thanks to You,' and 'Dahil Sa Isang Bulaklak.' She was joined onstage by special guests such as Martin Nievera, Regine Velasquez, and Ogie Alcasid, who paid tribute to her influence on Philippine music.

Born in Cebu in 1943, Corrales rose to fame in the 1960s and became one of the country's most beloved performers. She was the first winner of Tawag ng Tanghalan (now part of It's Showtime) and later hosted the long-running variety show 'An Evening with Pilita.' Her career spans singing, acting, and television hosting, making her a true icon in Philippine entertainment.

In an emotional speech, Corrales thanked her fans for their unwavering support. 'Music has been my life, and I am grateful for every moment I’ve spent onstage,' she said. 'To my family, friends, and supporters—maraming salamat sa inyong lahat.'

The concert also featured a video montage of her career highlights, including clips from her international performances in Australia and Latin America, where she gained a following in the 1960s and 70s.

As a testament to her lasting impact, the Philippine government recently honored Corrales with a Lifetime Achievement Award for her contributions to the arts.

Fans can expect more from the celebrated singer, as she announced plans for a new album later this year. 'As long as I can sing, I will,' she declared, leaving the audience cheering for an encore.

For now, Pilita Corrales continues to reign as one of the Philippines' most cherished musical treasures, proving that true talent never fades.
