question 2

Solution for question 2.

The one thrown at the greater angle with horizontal has a greater initial vertical velocity and therefore stays in the air for a longer time.

3. A ball of mass 0.200 kg has a velocity of 150m/s; a ball of mass 0.300 kg has a

velocity of -0.4m/s. They meet in a head-on elastic collision.

(a) Find their velocities after the collision.

(b) Find the velocity of their center of mass before and after the

collision.

5. At t = 0, a particle moving in the xy plane with constant acceleration has a velocity of vi = (3.00 i - 2.00 j) m/s and is at the origin. At t = 3.00 s, the particle's velocity is v = (6.20 i + 4.00 j) m/s.

(a) Find the acceleration of the particle at any time t.

(b) Find its coordinates at any time t.

14. a ball of mass 0.150 kg is dropped from rest from a height of 1.25 m. It rebounds from the floor to reach a height of 0.960 m. What impulse was given to the ball by the floor.

15. A 10.0-g bullet is fired into a stationary block of wood having mass m = 5.00 kg. The bullet imbeds into the block. The speed of the bullet-plus-wood combination immediately after the collision is 0.600 m/s. What was the original speed of the bullet?

Solution

In this problem momentum is conserved ,

So initial momentum = final momentum

M1U1 =( M1 + M2)V1

So original speed of bullet = (5 +.01)*.6/.01 = 300.6m/s
