It’s no secret that some of the most popular celebrities and influencers in the world edit their photos in one way or another. Whether it’s Photoshop or just a color-correcting filter, touching up social media posts has become all too common! However, that doesn’t mean every picture you see on Instagram is edited.
In fact, some of your favorite stars, including Tana Mongeau , Sofia Richie , Cardi B , Jennifer Lopez , the Kardashians and more, have clapped back at Photoshop accusations. Additionally, some A-listers are against editing entirely.
Take British model Iskra Lawrence , for example. In 2016, Iskra shared a powerful post about the potentially damaging effects of sharing altered images on the internet. “Shocking it only took me about 10 minutes to Photoshop myself to ‘perfection,'” she captioned side-by-side photos of herself in a blue bikini.
“But WTF is ‘perfect’? We weren’t born thinking flaws made you less beautiful, we are taught by society and the media that we should feel insecure about our flaws, so we buy into certain products to ‘improve’ or ‘attain perfection,'” Iskra continued. “I can’t leave home every day retouched and live in the ‘real world’ airbrushed, so why would I want to pretend to be online? I hope when you see what looks like perfect, flawless images of people online, you don’t ever feel insecure or less beautiful because it’s not real.”
Beyond images on social media, sometimes photo retouching is entirely out of a celebrity’s control. In 2019, actress Jameela Jamil shared an image of herself that was edited by a third party. “I was just doing a new spoof motivation sultry pic and was struck by how edited this picture of me is,” the Good Place star wrote. “It made me so mentally unwell trying to live up to this image in person. Airbrushing is the DEVIL.”
Jameela claimed the photo was altered to make her arms look thinner, eliminate stretch marks on her breasts, lighten her skin tone and even smooth her knees and ankles.

In February 2022, Khloé clapped back at a fan attempting to make fun of her hands. “Oh lord, she’s hiding her hands,” the user wrote, to which she responded, “Lol never. My hands are beautiful baby.”
The exchange came after people criticized her hands in a recent series of Instagram snaps, claiming they looked “scary.”
One year prior, the KUWTK star was met with backlash after sharing her new Good American campaign photos. Khloé made it clear that her altered appearance was purposeful and caused by a certain camera lens.
“Not to worry! I don’t have freakishly long fingers. It’s the lens! I can’t believe I’m even tweeting this LOL,” she tweeted at the time. “My old … normal-sized hands are still [intact]. Nope, I didn’t get a surgery to stretch my fingers, and nope, it’s not a ‘Photoshop fail.’ Have a great day.”
In November 2020, an Instagram account posted side-by-side photos of Tana wearing a slinky silver dress. One image was clearly edited, while the other wasn’t. “I like both versions. LMFAO. People always try to clock me for edits like I don’t own that s–t,” Tana commented on the picture.
“I post VIDEOS of myself online. I am very confident with how I look at all times,” she added. “I got my makeup contoured to be like Paris Hilton for this look and edited as I normally do … ALSO, DIFFERENT POSES, LIGHTING, MAKEUP, DAYS, ETC. Suck my weenie and just know, I am very confident with how I look at all times. XOXO.”
In July 2019, Sofia Richie was on vacation in Turks & Caicos with Kylie Jenner . After posting a stunning bikini photo, one fan suggested she Photoshopped the image. “The curve of the wall, sis … we were all rooting for you not to Facetune like the rest of them,” the person commented.
“Thanks, Boo! But that is an archway,” Sofia replied, along with a kissy-face emoji.
In June 2017, Jennifer posted a mirror selfie on Instagram showcasing her sculpted stomach. Unfortunately, it didn’t take long for the Photoshop accusations to roll in. “Why the need to Photoshop?! Goes to show you that fame and fortune can’t buy you self-confidence,” one user commented.
“OMG … just a smudge on the mirror. LOL. Not Photoshop,” she replied, and added the hashtags, “Lord bless the haters,” “gym rat,” “you should try it” and “wish there was Photoshop for haters.”
In June 2020, pictures of Cardi shopping at Target went viral on Twitter. At the same time, the “Money” rapper shared a nude photo of herself on Instagram. Due to the differences in her appearance, fans suggested she Photoshopped her post.
Cardi then shared a video of herself in a blue string bikini on Instagram and claimed the Target photos were edited to make her look boxy. “So now I gotta show y’all this motherf–king body,” she said in a video. “Now I know a bitch gained some weight. I had to make the thighs match the motherf–king ass.”
In March 2021, the Jersey Shore star shared a sexy video of herself in a bikini and sunglasses. “Yes, I used a Snapchat filter for this, and no, I didn’t Photoshop or Facetune my body LOL. Thanks for asking,” she captioned the clip.
Kim Kardashian ‘s team made a rare statement about altering a Skims commercial featuring the reality star . In the clip, Kim’s finger seemingly became distorted as she ran it up her torso.
“The Skims commercial that aired last week featuring the Fits Everybody collection did initially have an error as a result of the video losing its quality during the uploading process,” a spokesperson for Skims told Page Six in June 2021.
“Immediately after it was noticed by the team, the video was pulled, and the glitch-free version was uploaded and ran for the remainder of the time on air. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused Kim and our customers,” the rep added.

We'll never know why they feel the need to take their already superhuman beauty to a level of ridiculousness, so all we can do is giggle and roll our eyes at their most glaring mistakes. Kim and her fam are notorious for tweaking their pics, but wow, this oversight is truly...something else. How did she not notice how funky the car-nay, half-car-was looking before she posted?!
This photo of Kim looks relatively normal until you realize that she significantly lightened the color of her eyes, which are normally a deeper chocolate brown. Also, some people think she did a lil something-something to the tip of her nose.
Kim posted this pic to promote several products from her beauty line, but fans promptly called her out for majorly photoshopping her bod. They pointed out that her thigh looks unnaturally and disproportionately long, and that her booty looks smaller than usual…which is something that people keep track of, I guess.
Either Kim was standing on a super slanted floor, or she edited this pic and forgot to align the door behind her with the shower curtain to her left. (Why? IDK, man.)
AH! Kim! Your right arm is missing beneath the elbow! What happened!?
Kim would have gotten away with this one, had another guest at Kendall's birthday party not decided to upload the same photo booth pic. The photo on top shows some super minor ponytail flyaways and, IDK, a real human being's chin, and the photo underneath is the one that Kim posted.
Okay, see the white dress hanging behind Kim and Blac Chyna? Look to the left. The door frame should be straight, but for some unknown reason it juts out at an unexpected angle. An Ikea bestseller? I think not.
The wonky doorframe is even more obvious in this pic-the second in the series, if you will. Look to the left of Kim's elbow. What is this sorcery!?
Look closely at the wooden planks in the boardwalk here and you'll see that they start tipping down slightly right around Emily's thigh gap. Coincidence? Methinks not.
While there’s nothing about this Insta that outright proves it was edited, many of Hailey’s followers left comments saying that they just didn't think it really looked like her. Gotta love the snark of “we love photoshop” and “say no to photoshop and facetune sis.” Woof.
As Kris Jenner was promoting one of Flat Tummy ’s very 🙄products, her Insta followers noticed something funky going on around her right bicep. If you zoom in, her arm gets blurry, and the surface of the exercise equipment gets fuzzy-both of which suggest the pic was probably edited.
