PySpark filter() function is used to filter the rows from RDD/DataFrame based on the given condition or SQL expression, you can also use where() clause instead of the filter() if you are coming from SQL background, both these functions operate exactly the same.
In this PySpark article, you will learn how to apply filter on DataFrame primitive data types, arrays, struct columns by using single and multiple conditions with PySpark (Python Spark) examples.
Below is syntax of the filter function. condition would be an expression you wanted to filter.
Before we start with examples, first let’s create a DataFrame.
This yields below schema and DataFrame results.
Use Column with the condition to filter the rows from DataFrame, using this you can express complex condition by referring column names using dfObject.colname
This yields below DataFrame results.
Same example can also written as below. In order to use this first you need to import from pyspark.sql.functions import col
If you are coming from SQL background, you can use that knowledge in PySpark to filter DataFrame rows with SQL expressions.
This yields below DataFrame results.
In PySpark, to filter() rows on DataFrame based on multiple conditions, you case use either Column with a condition or SQL expression. Below is just a simple example using & condition, you can extend this with OR(|), and NOT(!) conditional expressions as needed.
This yields below DataFrame results.
When you want to filter rows from DataFrame based on value present in an array collection column, you can use the first syntax. The below example uses array_contains() from Pyspark SQL functions which checks if a value contains in an array if present it returns true otherwise false.
This yields below DataFrame results.
If your DataFrame consists of nested struct columns, you can use any of the above syntaxes to filter the rows based on the nested column.

Тогда Ванда стала искать ошейник у Спарки, чтобы вернуть его к прежним хозяевам. Не найдя ошейник, мальчики стали ещё больше убеждать маму оставить пса. Домой пришёл Вижен, приняв в доме собаку, а также Агнес с собачьей будкой. Она спросила, есть ли у них собака и как её зовут, Билли сказал, что его зовут Сниффи. Тогда собака ударилась током, тогда Агнес предложила назвать его Спарки. Семья согласилась оставить Спарки, тогда они вручили ему ошейник. Однако Ванда и Вижен решили, что дети ещё слишком малы, чтобы ухаживать за Спарки, пока им не исполнится 10 лет, тогда Билли и Томми моментально выросли до возраста 10 лет.
Через некоторое время, Билли играл со Спарки перед Вандой и Томми, тогда Ванда сказала, что ему очень удаётся сдружиться с собакой. Позже все вышли на улицу, где увидели дрон М.Е.Ч.а, пролетевший рядом с их домом, так как М.Е.Ч. пытался связаться, а директор Тайлер Хэйуорд хотел пристрелить Ванду, однако Ванда успешно остановила дрон.
На следующий день, мальчики и Ванда отправились искать пропавшего Спарки.[1] Агата Харкнесс нашла Спарки и отравила его ядовитыми листьями, из-за чего Спарки умер. Тогда он умер, Хакнесс замотала его полотенцем, чтобы показать его семье Максимофф.[2] Харкнесс нашла семью Максимофф и показала им мёртвого Спарки, сказав, что он ел листья её растений, и что она нашла его уже мёртвым. Опустошённые мальчики попросили Ванду воскресить его, но она отказалась и сказала им, что им нужно смириться с потерей и двигаться дальше.[1]
