Undercover detectives arrested at least eight people in a crackdown on prostitution in Pittsburgh this week, according to criminal complaints filed in Pittsburgh Municipal Court.
Part of the operation involved the website Escort Babylon, which instructs potential clients to call a number to arrange for an appointment for sexual acts.
Police say they called and spoke with Samuel Snyder, 20, of Mount Oliver. They say an undercover detective talked to Snyder on the phone and arranged for sex and what police called “party favors” — crystal methamphetamine.
According to arrest papers, the officer exchanged numerous text messages with Snyder, who told the officer his phone’s battery was low and he would call from a different number.
Police then received a call from Jules Williams, 39, of Wilkinsburg, who said she was at the hotel where they agreed to meet.
Williams and Snyder knocked on the door of the hotel room and were then taken into custody, according to criminal complaints filed against them.
Police noticed Kevin Fowler Jr., 25, of Wilkinsburg also in the hallway. Williams told police Fowler was her boyfriend and had arranged for the taxi that brought them to the hotel, according to a criminal complaint.
Police confirmed that Snyder had the phone that used the number listed in the advertisement and that Williams’ phone was used in the second call with police. Fowler allegedly also told police about his role in the evening.
Snyder was charged with prostitution, possession of methamphetamine, conspiracy and criminal use of a cellphone, according to a criminal complaint.
Williams was charged with prostitution, possessing instruments of crime (a cellphone) and criminal conspiracy.
Fowler was charged with promoting prostitution, conspiracy and prohibited acts for having a baggie containing marijuana.
The number used to arrange the meeting was not in service Friday.
Public defenders listed for Snyder, Williams and Fowler didn’t immediately return messages seeking comment Friday.
Five other people were charged by Pittsburgh police in a detail Wednesday in the area of Middle and Foreland streets on the North Side, according to police.

The oldest profession is going high-tech. Cleveland police have shut down a ‘virtual brothel’ that allegedly operated across state lines between December of 2010 and June of 2012.
Charged in a 17-count indictment were William Regas II and Joana Terwilliger of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Investigators accused the two of managing, organizing and operating a web site called Indys.com, where visitors could shop online for sex partners.
Five others were named in court records as ‘providers’ or female prostitutes. Charged with engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity are Regas II, Terwilliger, Neeka Ann Rogers from Cleveland, Elizabeth Smith of Cleveland, Nicole Yosick from Cuyahoga Falls, Dalina Rosha Yeboah of Columbus, and Leah Hammond from Dayton.
According to court records, ‘providers’ would advertise their services and prices on Indys.com. Their ‘johns’ would then make contact and follow up by writing a detailed account of the experience. The candid critique of ‘services rendered’ was required as a way of proving trustworthiness in a system where members would vouch for each other.
Additional charges against Regas II and Terwilliger included promoting prostitution and possessing criminal tools. Regas II was also charged with 10 counts of money laundering.

S Bar Pittsburgh william l regas II holds first promotion of prostitution party for indys.com with site owner William L. Regas II (pimp) Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Show customers why they should trust your business over your competitors...
The S Bar Pittsburgh hosted its first promotion of prostitution private party along with indys.com website owner/operator, William L. Regas II, who is a pimp. The promotion of prostitution party was held Tuesday, August 23, 2011 from 7pm until an unknown time. The parties are private and closed to the general public. The website invites its "vouched" members to attend the party via a thread posted on indys.com in a "secure" area. The members interested in attending then respond to the thread with a RSVP. The party destination is revealed a short time before the party is to commence for "security" reasons. Tricks pay to enter the party. Prostitutes have free admission. Who are the bar service workers at this party? One would think for "security" reasons it would be volunteers from the prostitution website. But bar/club liability issues probably prevent this scenario from occurring. so the owner of the venue is either given a contrived story from William L. Regas II, prostitution website owner, about the nature of the party or the bar/club owner is complicit in what the nature of the party is. From a very credible source, it has been confirmed that the S Bar Pittsburgh owner told his/her employees that they were scheduled to work a "swinger" private party. Thus putting anyone who is not at the party of their own volition in an awkward position. Some disturbing potential scenarios that could be an outcome of duping the employees to work this party: Potential pictures of attendees, either inadvertently or purposefully, could have been taken by the employees. Other personal information of the attendees may also be available depending on what form of payment was used at the venue connecting the attendees to the party, etc. If the employees working the "private party" arent told the truth about the nature of the party then how can they be expected to be held to a certain standard of rules that the prostitutes/tricks/website owner are expecting the employees to be held to? like anonymity? just creepy and kooky. this is a PSA! not a debate on whether private parties for prostitutes and johns are appropriate. but please feel free to comment.
