These nipples have worked great for my little guy before he had issues with horrible gas and reflux. He was a preemie and the regular size newborn nipple had stopped being effective for him. So when we brought him home from the hospital, I found these on amazon and ordered them once I noticed he was having trouble with the flow for some reason we couldn't identify. They really worked great for a while and seemed to solve a lot of excessive gas and reflux problems with the slower flow. He was able to take the Playtex petite without fussing or gagging. However, he started to develop serious feeding problems as he was born with "tongue tie" - an issue with the tongue that occurs when the tissue that attaches the tongue to the bottom of the mouth is too short. This causes restriction of the tongue movement. For me, this made it impossible to breastfeed because he couldn't extend his tongue enough to latch. It also ended up causing problems with bottles and nipples. Then we had the skin snipped and started having formula problems. After every combination of bottle, nipple and formula for gas, reflux and feeding issues - little man is now on Dr. Brown Bottles with preemie nipples Dr. Brown's Original Nipple, Preemie (0m+),6 count and feeding with Nutramigen with Enflora LGG Baby Formula - 19.8 oz Powder Can (Pack of 4) This has turned out after weeks of hell and colic to be the right combination for us. Mommy, Daddy, baby and pets are all much happier. But I do miss using the Playtex. If your baby needs a slow flow nipple and doesn't have any special issues that need a more specialized approach to feeding - I absolutely recommend this product.

Both of my kids had a hard time making the transition from breast to bottle when they were 1-2 months of age. Initially they would suck so hard on the regular slow flow nipples that they would drink too much too fast. While it is still a slow flow hole in the nipple, the diameter of the nipple itself is smaller allowing for a slower flow than the regular slow flow nipple. I used this nipple first as a transition size for about 1-2 weeks. Once they had the hang of the bottle and wanted a faster flow, I switched back to the regular slow flow nipple.

Hospital recommended using regular flow nipples so after our hospital stock ran out that is what we did! Love the playtex drop in system, so we use the regular sized playtex nipples and he's been fine on them for 3 months. These were a waste of money.
