Elmers own note: Its parentage is Suelter x Venus, flower is self pollinating,
small blue seedless berries with 23 brix sugar on medium clusters. Great vigor.

Its parentage is ES 5-14 x Open Pollination.
I do grow it, but I do not believe it is grown widely. It ripens midseason
here, which puts it somewhere with or slightly before Seyval. On 17 September
2006 it was 18.9 brix, had a moderate acid, and a pleasant but neutral flavor.
It was not ripe yet.
On 18 September 2005 ES 6-11-42 (Shannon) was at 15.5 brix, had neutral flavors,
acids were still somewhat high - in short not ripe yet. I also recorded that
the flesh was a mushy texture and it did not yield clean juice (this is a fault).
Growth is upright, and vinifera-like in habit.
Although ES 6-11-42 had lower sugar, I think it is a low brix grape, and
was going to ripen with Frontenac (but at much lower sugar).As for the name
Shannon. It really is not what I regard as an official name - I am not sure
it warrants one. I believe that one may have been proposed by Peggy Backup,
a grower in SE Minnesota, as was Alpenglow. (Ref MH)

seeded ripe here around Sept. 5 high sugar, small-fruited cultivars but very
high quality and very hardy. Ref.

ES 6-4-47: Very
hardy, almost seedless, blue grape, neutral flavour wine Ref.
Also an almost seedless table grape, sold under the name St. Theresa.
The nurseryman told; that he and Elmer had discussed the name St. Theresa and
Elmer told him it was alright to call it that. Good eating grape around
here. ( Ref JiB )
Delisle: Swenson hybrid ES 7-5-41, very
hardy, rose coloured, excellent wine per Alain B, hard to root. Ref.
Kandiyohi Immense
blue berries, ripening after Beta. Self-pollinating. Ref.
St. Croix : This
variety is susceptible to downy mildew, but resists powdery mildew and black
rot. It’s relatively easy to make good quality wine with St Croix Hardy
to app. -32 F. Vinifera-like, with good fruit and low tannin. Achieves
18-20 brix with moderate acidity. Ripens mid season Ref.

Alpenglow : Light red berries.
Average Vigor. Makes a light, neutral white wine with very low acid and low
sugar. It is suitable as a blending component for varieties with high acid.

Somerset Seedless: Average
Vigor, hardy to -30 C in Norway. Pink grapes on small to medium clusters. Great
taste good aroma. Early and productive. Taste is OK before full mature. Picture
ES 5-3-89 : Elmer rated
it fairly high in breeding and used it in subsequent crosses. Has a most
distinct apricot like flavor-- very pronounced even here in western WA.
It is a white female of lower to moderate vigor and sets 5 inch clusters
for me of medium sized golden berries. I don't know about its fungus problems
in the midwest but here it is clean. ( Ref: Roy )
Lorelei White grape for table and wine.
Flavor is a very pleasing Muscat and American combination. The vine is very
healthy, hardy, early ripening, and productive. Good sized berries and clusters.
Zone 3b Swensons number 5-4-29. Pistillate.
(Ref, DMcGregor). Tom Plocher said he had tried it for wine and the wine
he made could only be described as "wierd" Someone else on the list
had told me the same comment about wine not being "normal" ----- I
have tasted wine from it from an Iowa grower that was quite excellent. ( Ref EdS )
