At 4’11″, it is safe to say that I fall under the petite category . Most women can shop without having to worry about having too long of a hemline or too wide of an armhole opening. Given my height, that’s something I have to take into consideration when shopping for those perfect pieces for my wardrobe.
Lucky for me, and other women 5’4″and under, check out the Petite Fit Guide tips from Macy’s. This guide is here to help take the stress out of getting dressed. Today, I’m sharing two of my favorite fit and flare dresses for fall from Charter Club and NY Collection. Both dresses I’m wearing in their petite sizing which you know I love. You can also find other great petite finds from INC International Concepts, Alfani, Style & Co, and JM Collection!
I love when retailers make it easy for women to shop for items that actually work for their height. As a woman that is 4’11, it’s always been difficult to find clothing with hemlines that aren’t too long, shoulder seams that hit in the right spot, and even waistbands that hit my actual waist.
So if you’re looking for style advice and you’re on the shorter side, like me, head on over to the Petite Fit Guide Tips From Macy’s! It’s a great resource to help you navigate the dos and don’ts on how to dress your petite frame.
Of course, I had to share a few of my favorite petite finds over at Macy’s right now. I’m a sucker for dresses, obviously, but you can find so many pieces that are perfect for women of short stature. Go ahead and click through the shopping widget below to find more fashions for short women this season!

I love that both outfits. Your dresses are nice. Xoxo Marie
I am also petite, and I generally have to have my clothes tailored so they end up looking great. I seldom find pants that don’t need to be hemmed.
Pants are always the hardest! xoxo Cathy
Thank you, thank you, thank you for this post! I am also 4’11.
Hahaha! YAY for petite girls! xoxo Cathy
Thanks for suggesting some great petit dresses. I’m going to check them out! As someone on the taller end of the petite spectrum, I always struggle to find pants that fit. Petite pants always seem to hit a bit short and regular sizes are way too long (unless I buy ankle length). The struggle is real! Love that lip color on you. That entire look against the yellow door is [insert heart eyes emoji here]!
You’re so sweet, so glad you loved this post! xoxo Cathy
Looking fabulous as always! Also, it’s so awesome that Macy’s is catering to us petite gals. Yes, we can obviously hem our clothes, but I find that petites just FIT better, because the curves hit at the right places.
this polka dot dress is great on you!!!
I love love love these outfits! So cute on you girl!

While petite sizing differs from brand to brand, clothing pieces are typically* created with the following details in mind.
Hemlines : Petite dresses and skirts typically have slightly higher hemlines.
Inseams: Petite pants and shorts typically have shorter inseams, usually up to 2″ less than standard sizing.
Arms: Petite tops, jackets, and coats typically have shorter sleeve lengths, higher armholes, and narrower shoulders.
Neck : Petite tops typically have a higher neck hole and measure shorter from neck to waist.
Rise: Petite pants, jeans, and shorts typically have a slightly shorter rise.
Waist: Petite dresses typically have a higher waistline and a smaller waist.
Knees: Petite bottoms typically have a higher knee placement.
Slimmer Fit: Petite bottoms typically have a slimmer leg opening and fit for a more tailored look.
*Not all brands and retailers make their petite clothing the same way and to the same measurements, so one petite dress may fit very differently than another. Check the retailers size charts, FAQ, or their specific petite page for more details.
The U.S. petite size chart below is a general* guideline. Visit each store’s website for their own petite sizing chart.
