Necrophilia – having sex with corpses – is still legal in several American states, due to what one politician describes as ‘loopholes in the law’.
Aaron Vega, 45, is trying to get the law changed in Massachussetts, where no law explicitly outlaws necrophilia.
In other states such as Kansas and Louisiana, the law is fairly murky on the legality of sex with dead people.
Vega told the Guardian, ‘Currently, it is illegal to have sex with an animal in Massachusetts, but not with a dead person.
‘If a perpetrator rapes a victim prior to a murder, there will be two charges – a rape charge and a murder charge.
‘Currently under the law if the perpetrator murders a victim and then rapes the victim after the murder, there would be only be one.
Vega is pushing for a new law which would make sex with dead people illegal.
Vega says, ‘We want to know how a loved one is treated, even in death. What it comes down to is knowing that our loved ones are safe – whether it’s just a body, or something that contains a soul.’

This is one of those stories that leaves you wondering what’s really going on in the world. This week the assistant pathologist working with the Jackson County medical examiner services, one Jennifer Burrows, has been accused of sexual contact with dozens of corpses over the last 24 months. This has resulted in Burrows getting pregnant and the birth of a baby boy this past January 7 th .
Reports from the Kansas City Missouri Police Department detail that Burrows’ baby is also the son of a man who was killed in a fatal car accident back in March of 2015. Burrows was only supposed to have performed an autopsy on the man. Police claim that they have evidence that Burrows had sexual contact with more than 60 other dead men in her care, with ages at time of death ranging from 17 to 71.
“We opened an investigation about this case in October after we were informed that the suspect may have been sexually abusing corpses,” Police Chief Forté told reporters. “We accumulated enough evidence over the last few months to obtain a warrant for a paternity test on her newborn son. It confirmed our suspicions, that the father of her child was, indeed, a 57-year old veterinarian from Texas who was driving through the county when he had a fatal car accident. All the evidence that we have gathered suggests that he had never met Ms. Burrows before his demise and that he was already dead when the baby was conceived.”
There are currently no laws (state or federal) governing or explicitly outlawing the practice of necrophilia, since the corpse is considered human remains and no longer living. Therefore, it is technically legal in the state of Missouri, and Ms Burrows’ actions are judged as an indecent treatment of a corpse. She is facing a total of 158 charges, including indecent treatment of a corpse, disorderly conduct, indecent exposure and possession of illegal drugs.
The psychologists and experts that we interviewed were divided in their interpretation of Ms Burrows’ case. Some, Like Professor Isabella Ramirez of the University of Missouri, believe that the young woman was suffering from a psychosis and had, at least partially, lost contact with reality.
Others, like Dr Gerald Porter, a well-known psychologist and expert in sexual disorders associated with the Institute of Psychological Sciences, believe that the accused is clearly a compulsive necrophiliac, and that her choice of profession was inspired by her sexual deviation in the first place.
All seem to agree, however, that the 26-year old woman was suffering from mental problems and that she will probably register a plea of insanity.

A MAN has been charged with necrophilia after he was caught having sex with a dead woman.
Sheriff’s deputies in Bibb County, Georgia , responded to a complaint on Sunday that people were having sex outside a homeless shelter.
Deputies arrived just after 4am to find the man on the front steps in the middle of the act, Fox5 Atlanta reported.
When officers asked the man to put his clothes back on, they made the sickening discovery the woman was unresponsive.
Emergency responders who arrived at the Daybreak resource center on Walnut Street confirmed the woman was dead.
It appeared she “had been deceased for some time," officials said.
There is no suspicion of foul play.
The man, Kenny Obyran Whitehead, 55, was arrested and charged with necrophilia.
Georgia laws states necrophilia is a felony.
A person found guilty of the crime will be punished by a prison term of one to ten years.
The medical examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the woman’s cause of death.
The victim’s name will not be made public.
Bibb County is about one hour south of Atlanta.
