The Internet is in a frenzy over the recent revelation that a private investigator for a New Orleans police department was working with the FBI to find evidence of Hillary Clinton s server as possible evidence against her.

The FBI hired a top law enforcement official in a New Orleans special agent s office as part of its investigation to help track down evidence of Clinton s private server, according to a news release in the Times-Picayune last week.

The Times-Picayune reports the FBI hired retired U.S. Marshal John Hickey, an official who has served an FBI career in his agency and is now an Assistant Inspector General at the Justice Department, to investigate the matter.

The official said Hickey was working for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. When it came time for the investigation, Hickey said the FBI contacted him asking to meet if an investigation had been opened against Clinton in person, according to the Times-Picayune. FBI officials declined and referred to Hickey as an official with the bureau.

The news release describes Hickey s job at the FBI s Fort Bragg Bureau of Crimes in New Orleans as a special agent with an ongoing task force. No charges have been filed against a Special Agent in Charge.
